thocno,

I tried vaping a few years ago and just didn't get on with it.

Money is not an issue but I think it might be something for me to think about, thanks.

I think/know I just a want to stop, but I don't know how to with out help.
I used the zyban tablets on two occasions, worked a treat. I restarted out of pure stupidity, nothing related to the effectiveness of the medication.

4 full days now cig free, slowly getting used to it and managing the cravings, i am going to get a little vape though with low strength juice as i find first thing on a morning really hard and after meals, so thinking if i can just ease those triggers with a low strength vape it would help a lot. local vape shop has some little kits for about 15 quid. not those that produce tons of smog but good enough for my needs.

I's say thats a wise move. i'd not be without my vape now and prefer it way better to Cigs.

Find one that suits you and get the mix right with flavour and strength and it hits the spot and you wont end up back on the fags.

I went cold turkey 7yrs ago and was awful to live with for the first 6 months. I had a relapse two years ago and really should have got on the Vape then.

I even had a cheeky Cigar on NYE but straight back on the vape y'day

3 days for me. Started smoking in Feb...again. Bought a vape starter kit...again. I got a decent vape kit as there's no point buying an inferior one. Using low strength fluid but might up the nicotine level to the next strength.

Good luck to everyone else.

Keep it up fellas. I've tried vaping before with mixed results. I found a flavour I really liked, switched to another for a week or so and then back to the nice flavour but no nicotine (at a time nicotine level was low anyway).

If I'm in a heavy group of smokers, I might still take a zero-nic vape out to 'socialise' but it can sit in my drawer for months at other times.

I'm just over a year smoke free now. Managed on willpower alone in the end as I just didn't get on with vaping.

I had a few slip-ups over the year, the trick is not to view them as an excuse to start again. Accept it, bin any leftovers and carry on.

I notice I still get the occasional cravings at the most peculiar moments. Only lasts a second though, thankfully.

Keep at it, it does get easier thumbup

Three and a half years since I gave up, I will be honest, I still miss it, I don't really feel like my health has improved but I have definitely saved a st ton of cash!

The worse part was being unable to sleep or having really bad broken sleep, once that passed in a week or so it wasn't too bad.

EDITED TO ADD -

Sorry probably doesn't sound like a motivational "Keep at it people, you can do it, it will be worth it" kinda message.

Truth is, it is a mugs habit, it is really terrible for you. You know what the benefits of smoking are? None! That's right, none!

So do keep at it, don't ever give up, giving up, you will be better off, you will no longer stink, you will almost certainly live longer.

To everyone giving up, well done, you have made the correct decision.

To anyone thinking of giving up, do it, there really isn't a reason not to!

I'm in also guys. Will keep an eye on the thread for mutual support.

Smoked age 18-30. Then stopped for 14yrs. Then started again mid-2016.

Managed to give up Jan and Feb last year.....then started again.

Don't want to vape. Am just using the nicotinell mints. Which to be fair do take most of the craving away.

Seem to be coping ok so far....

went to the shop today, got a nice little unit , i got to try before i bought. got some good advice too. using a mix of british tobacco and menthol at 6mg, hits the spot nicely and not massive amounts of smog but just enough to sort me out . have to say too it tastes just like my old players menthols too. not sure if thats a good thing. noticed there are so many flavours to choose from i was a bit baffled by the choices. what does everyone else favour ?

I've always had a black current style flavour with a mint Nicotine supplement that works fine for me.

I find the vanilla type of ones too sickly

Plain mint or menthol for me. Not interested in the other stuff tbh, I'm vaping to get off nicotine altogether. I think a lot of the other flavours are about getting/keeping people interested in it, and then it's a short hop to growing a stupid beard and boring everyone to death about your latest sub ohm bawbaggery.

There's a feeling amongst many that vaping is safe and 'healthy'. I suspect it's only a matter of time before we find out that's not true (although I'm sure it's better than fags). Getting hooked on vaping as a lifestyle thing is nearly as stupid as smoking imo. And I say that as a vaper and (so far) ex-smoker.

I've stopped smoking for a week. I've taken champix for 2 weeks. I've had none of the usual horrendous nicotine cravings of cold turkey so that side is good.
I am struggling with the fact I'll never be able to have a fag ever again though.
I've smoked 20 a day for 25 years and I'm experiencing the 'smoking nostalgia' stuff.
The champix is also making me feel weird, but not in an unpleasant way.
That was 11/3/16 and I've not had a single fag since.
Feel MUCH healthier. No cough anymore. Can't remember the last time I had a cold. I've even lost weight.

I'd encourage anyone to stop asap.

I thought I'd never stop and took the champix as an experiment more than anything. I had not committed to stopping when I did.

Good luck to everyone and remember it gets easier very quickly.

i know what you mean about all this sub ohm stuff, i watched a few you tube vids and the amount of crap spouted by wierdos just wanting to make clouds and thinking its impressive is stupid, not to mention all the high tech, rebuildable computerised crap too, i just want to stop smoking , press a button on a simple vape get rid of a craving and carry on as normal. it does seem to have become a real hobby for some . each to their own i guess.

And to everyone here whos stopped or just stopped, good luck to you all. was asked this morning by a chap if i could lend him a cig, felt good to say "sorry mate i dont smoke" smile

I had my neighbours over for drinks in the Christmas holidays. They both smoke so were popping out into the garden every hour and no matter how drunk I got, it was a nice feeling to not have any urge to bum a ciggy what so ever. Stark contrast to 4 years ago when the slightest hint that a smoke was on the go, I'd be over asking for a couple of drags. I liken it to seeing a small child desperate for a dummy when they see another child sucking on one.

For all those thinking of quitting or who have recently quit, stick with it. There will come a point where you are not tempted in the slightest.

I have given up on numerous occasions, the longest being 2 years, and I have always been tempted!

Still, day 4 for me and happy to vape for now. I have always given up on the vape too soon previously. Think I will hang on to it a bit longer.

Good luck all.

Have to say this forum has been the best encouragement to keep of the smokes, if i get a craving i just look at these posts and get stronger if that makes sense i feel like if i dont crack it ive let the team down and its daft yes , but i use it to be strong, the vape is definatley helping with certain times like morning coffee and after meals but apart fro that im not missing it. found im sleeping better too apart from having mad dreams that i did not used to have before.

My app told me I was at 150 days last week. It's got all sorts about health benefits as well, percentage rankings of how close you're getting to a non smoker for all the things smoking does to you. And it calculates the money you've saved too.

I'd definitely recommend one, especially if you're like me and like numbers. Think it's called Smoke Free.

I started this thread (change of username) in December 2012 (and there have been plenty of others similar).

I think I'm about 2 and a half years off the smokes, so more than half the time since the thread started was a battle. Randomly, new year's eve brought temptation (also a friend's 40th birthday meal). I would still love a smoke today which goes against how most people feel after stopping, but not having one is the easier choice. I enjoy the smell of someone else smoking but don't miss the smell on myself. I've not had a single smoke in that 2 and a half years but before that I'd pick myself up over and over.

Stop! I hope it's easy, but battle and stop, cold turkey, vape, patches, sprays, stumble and try again, try over and over, just stop!

Coming up for 5 years smoke free, tried vaping, cold turkey, patches you name it and failed every time. I was a 30 a day B&H and ahem other stuff smoker.

Go to the docs and get the pills, 10 days of taking them and I never had cravings again, seriously stop lying to yourselves about moving to vaping or other crutches and go see your doc.

Agreed. If there's ever a time when the vaping device fails or runs out, I think people reach for the fags if available.

Stopping smoking is much more than just ending the nicotine addiction.
