Jaysus.

How much do you think the band is worth?

It varies a bit with the weight used, but probably in the 60kg region. It's provides more support the closer to the chest so helps overload lockout / top end strength nicely.

Interesting. That's a lot more than I was expecting you to say; I was thinking more like 20kg or something.

I train specifically to compete in a bench shirt so my top end lockout if a lot stronger than off the chest, so I get quite a high carry over from the super ram. At 1 rep max I would think I get about 70kg out of it!!

A shirt gives you 70 kg? Jeez indeed. What's your max, raw?

Shirt gives me about 100kg on a good day. Best raw was 195kg about a year ago, hit 280/290 in a shirt a few months ago (Raw dropped off a bit as not getting much focus) and 310kg to 1 board.

More to come soon hopefully !

A bit reluctant to mention any lifts after that...

But - a decent workout this evening.

Squat:
4 x 130kg (PR)

DB bench press (slow eccentric and big pauses):
4x 6 @ 34kg
S/S with weighted neutral chins up to 6 x 20kg (PR at my current weight - done it before but when I was 5kg lighter)

Tricep stuff to finish. Felt strong.

It's essentially a very tight minimally stretching shirt that provides a lot of resistance to lowering the bar and really tightens up against the chest and triceps. Idea being it provides a lot of support to chest and shoulders and the shirt material loads up with weight. If you keep it on the line of resistance it gives a lot of pop off the chest.

A lot of technique involved in wearing a tight one as the have a narrow line of resistance and will often lock up part way down and so you have to actively row the bar into your chest. The tighter and less stretchy the shirt the harder it is to use but often the more weight it will help.

Wearing them I.phusically hard as you need to stabilise heavier weights than normal, the cuts scrape and bruise you and there .ca.be a huge amount of pressure - I regularly burst capillaries around the eyes and forehead. Mentally - takes quite s lot of focus and balls to hold the weight.

Getting a tight one on can need one or two helpers and sometimes plastic bags in arms the help them slide up the arms.

It's a bit painful but a lot of fun and a massive amount of adrenaline!!!

I read on one of Andy Bolton's statuses about shirts that one guy couldn't touch his chest even with 300kg loaded on the bar!
World record is near half a tonne too!
490kg example: https://youtu.be/kQWh7A33z8M

I hear there's a nack to it and they can be a bh to get on with.

Yep been there with 300kg floating about, Lol.

They can be an absolute nightmare to work with at first and can be pretty fristrating. In a tight shirt there will be a minimum about of weight you need to touch and a maximum you can lock out. The gap between then can be fair small.

I don't think I'll be benching heavy again to warrant the purchase, may get a sling shot to load the Triceps more but otherwise I'll be sticking to dumbbells smile

Don't rule it out. They hold you together quite a bit. We're originally designed to reduce injuries in chest and shoulders - They just got carried away making them stronger and stonger....

Nah, I'm with Smiffy.

Once you come a cropper on something - and he properly came a cropper - it's fairly sensible to avoid that exercise, expecially if the competition you train for doesn't require it.

The barbell bench obviously represents a lot of risk versus minimal upside for him.

Pretty much a no-brainer, imo smile

As my my own training. Spent some time experimenting deadlifting with a belt last night.

Surprisingly hard tbh. Only went to 160kg to try and get dialled into using it, but urgh! Makes me wonder how much (if any) crossover there will be to beltless lifts.

Sat at work all day today, but yesterday was fun:

1.5-mile run to gym as warm up, followed by 20 or so pullups, then:

Deadlift @ 50% of 1RM
1x100 reps with 10-15 sec between reps. The idea being to treat it as a technical exercise and concentrate on perfect form throughout. I reckon my 1RM at present is c.160kg so I worked with 80kg.

Lat Pulldown 6x10 increasing the weight each set.
Close-grip Pulldown 4x10
500m SkiErg
10x10 pushups

Tomorrow I start a mass gain phase, which should be interesting!

Yeah, although I am back on the bench, simply because...well I'm not sure. I know I'll never go for numbers again now. PB from years ago was 192.5, I got it back to to around 170ish before my fall, my workssets were 140 at the time, my worksets are now 80. I won't go for heavy doubles and the like, I have no training partner, so it'll be 5x5 for the bench and a slow climb to see where it ends up. I'll be happy to get back to worksets of 120, but I don't know if that's realistic. I may not get over 100 again.

Just got back from holiday so tonight was an easy spin on the bike as I'd been off it for three days. Hate not riding my bike, don't see myself as an athlete in any shape or form, regardless of what I do in the gym, if I don't ride my bike.

So due to not riding it I had to contend with doing 300 press ups a day and some cable work. Weighed myself today - as expected did put on a few pounds biggrin Wow I really did hit the beer and burgers - a pleasing thickness nonetheless. cool

Now it's time for the grind.
