What training are you doing/have you done today? Vol.2
Discussion
Done very little training in the last month, but have been to some iconic gyms; Muscle beach, Gold's gym Venice beach, LA Athletics Club, a few others. Saw AhNold whizz by on his bicycle as well.
As an aside, when I played rugby, I was one of the quickest on the pitch, probably around 110 at the time. I do recall some bloke wanted to train me as a sprinter. I wish I'd said yes now.

Chris, I checked several resources and an 'Elite' bench is 1.8X BW. I think 2 is kind of Unicorn st rare
I have always used these standards as a barometer:http://www.exrx.net/Testing/WeightLifting/Strength...
According to that, 145kg Bench is 'Elite'
I think that when you get to the edge of what you can do, gains both in muscle and strength become much slower and every miniscule gain is very hard fought, I guess more so for an older guy with no pharmaceutical help.
Still fun trying, though!
Deload week so nothing exciting.
Sprints (football pitch) x 5 interspersed with jogging around for a couple of minutes.
Push ups: 3 x 10
Band pull aparts.
Front/reverse lunges: 3 x 10
Gentle yoga and stretching.
Wow! Didn't expect to be sooooo bad at yoga. I used to be able to do all the poses that 8 stone girls can do. Fat bd now.

OHP 4x15 @ 40kg 15, 10, 9, 8
Not making any progress here. Watched a YouTube clip with Mark Rippetoe talking about grip and technique and so tried to implement that. Technique is OK I think, just not getting any stronger.
Lat Raise 4x15
Dips 4x12
Dumbbell Pullover 3x12
Overhead Rope Extension 3x30

What I did was increase the sets for OH Press to 5-8 sets of 12-1 rep, and did them first on every arms and shoulders workout day. I did 2 or 3 sets for warm up and then increased the weight on each set until I could barely do one rep. Even if it means you have to cheat a little, I found they help condition me to accept the heavier weight. But it does take time, and it is a balancing act, especially for the shoulders where one wrong move could damage the RC - so warming up is very important. Not making any progress here. Cheers Chris - I'm going to have to try something different so will give this a go - more sets, heavier weight and lower reps.Animal said:

I know that many say that doing this or that accessory exercise will improve the exercise you're having trouble with, and there may be some truth to that. But in my (albeit limited) experience, nothing makes you progress more than to keep doggedly plugging at the very exercise you are having trouble with, rather than skirting around the issue.OT-anyone take at look at Classic Physique (Olympia). I realise, not natural but what a bod, Chris Bumstead. Reminds me of Bob Paris back in the day. 6ft 1" and limited to 225/ 102kg. He should have won the show imo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nJ6JqRlatM

I dont really understand Classic Physique. They're just smaller versions of the mass monsters in the main event. Nothing specific to them, if you see what I mean - not like they are natural or less vascular (or something else to do with aesthetics). ORD said:

It's another competition, so more competitiors, more exposure, more spectators = more money.ORD said:
