Hi all,

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but can anyone who hasn't had children say they've had this done and have been able to convince the doctor?

My GP wouldn't entertain referring me last year when I mentioned it to him. I'm 31 with no children. I've never wanted any, I still don't. My partner has a child to her ex and also doesn't want another.

I'm failing to see why my GP was so dismissive, I'm absolutely certain I want this.

Aren't there other avenues to explore like family planning clinics/ charities .
Like anything medical it can get frustrating if the GP has certain produces .
Back when I had mine done in the 80s the thinking was that it was far healthier for my then wife not to have 30 more years on the pill with it's risks or her to have comparatively major surgery and a far greater recovery period ..

Could you pay to go private instead? I imagine if you're paying, it's pretty much no questions asked?

I would admit though... I felt exactly the same at the same age. I've now had 2 and I wouldn't change it for the world and feel guilty about how I used to feel as they have brought immeasurable benefit to our lives, health and wellbeing.

Not judging.. just my experience.

Thanks guys.

I would be prepared to go private, provided the cost isn't prohibitive.

My GP is a bit "old school" in that respect, I'll ask again and then see what my options are.

I'd still like to hear from anyone who has had it done having not had any kids.

I've been putting this off for 3 years now, got referred a year ago and finally tried to book an appt last month - was told mid nov. Had a text weds to say they'd had a cancellation and long story short as of 45 mins ago I'm officially a Jaffa.

Wasn't as bad as I expected tbh, but I'm glad I don't have to do it again.

The guy used a single cut in the middle, and now there's a bandage type thing there. I expect taking a st will be interesting.

Well done , hope it works alright when it’s done.

I was referred in august but since reading more and more about long term pain afterwards in a number of cases I have bailed on it for now.

Had mine done 3 years ago this December, referred by my GP after having two kids and a miscarriage in between I told him I was done, I was 36 at the time and he was happy to refer me.

I went to another local GP who did minor procedures within the practice, had the needle which in itself wasn't bad however when they started cutting I could still feel the scalpel, gave me some more anaesthetic and I could feel it but it was bearable so I told him to carry on with it, honestly (although I won't tell the wife) it wasn't bad, just felt a bit of pulling when it was happening and had my man spheres bandaged into a hammock after which I wore for maybe a couple of days before giving up on it.

The feeling I can describe for about 5 days after is feeling like someone is kicking you in the nuts regularly. but it does go away, for maybe a few months after I would get the same kind of aching pain occasionally which would come and go but I can say for quite some time now it's absolutely fine and all I have is a small scar on the sack, everything works as it should.

I had to take a sample to a hospital a few months after to verify I now shoot blanks and I've got a letter to prove it so I tell the Mrs if she ever ends up pregnant I want to know whose it is! :laugh

Had mine done about 3 years ago, it was a "no cut" operation. Similar to keyhole surgery.

Was in and out in 14 mins flat, no real pain after just soreness for a day, no stitches, no aftercare.

If it's available go for that over the slice and dice job

Got the call last night from the clinic that they've had a cancellation and can get me in first thing on Friday.

Only had the initial conversation with my GP 3 weeks ago... I was expecting a much longer wait to, er, digest things. Fair play NHS.

100% want it, i'm 32 and have two young children and myself and the wife DO NOT want any others. I feel she's done her bit over the years contraception wise. It's my turn to step up and get the 'snip'.

So chaps - any recent experience / post procedure tips? Two weeks of no cycling or 5 knuckle shuffles are going to be the worst bit....

I had mine done 4 years ago this December, and I can confirm I have no long term side effects.

It was uncomfortable at the time and as others have said it basically feels like you have been kicked in the nuts for a good few days after.
When I left the surgery my nuts were in a type of hammock made out of bandage but I gave up with that the following day, all I would say is don't do any exercise other than normal walking for maybe a week as you really don't want those stitches to burst! I think mine dissolved anyway after about 5 days.

Supportive underwear is the way forward for a couple of weeks if you don't wear it already.

I did get an occasional aching feeling for no obvious reason in that area for a good few months after but at this point I don't remember when that last happened.

I have no regrets at all about getting it done, I am convinced that even if my wife left me and I got with a woman half my age there's no way I want anymore kids.

Had mine done 14 weeks ago. As others have said, you are in and out within an hour. For me, I spent more time watching a video on post recovery that having the actually procedure done.

I did chat with the nurse and surgeon whilst the work was being done and I asked the surgeon how many snips he had done, his answer was that he stopped counting after 11,000!

Recovery wise, I had no pain whatsoever so must have been lucky on that, but make sure you have ice packs to hand to put on you. Buy some supportive underwear, try to keep your feet up and not over do it as you need to keep your heart rate as low as possible.

My GP recommended I wear Speedos immediately after surgery and for a couple of days, to stop my nads dangling. Turns out it was a top tip.
The surgeon didn't sew my scrotum up.... they put ice packs on the area so it shrinks, as it does, and the incisions closed themselves!
Cycling, I wouldn't recommend it.
As for no wking, you'll need to "clear your pipes" in readiness for your Jaffa sample.

I got done about a year ago, after ~3 years of procrastinating. Procedure was unpleasant. Not painful necessarily but the gut wrenching feeling of your tubes being tugged internally. Not sure if that's usual or my surgeon was particularly handsy. A lesser form of this feeling persisted for a few months during certain activities and I began to wonder if it would be permanent, which thankfully it wasn't. I never did anything about it as regards medical advice. This may be what they mean by 10% experience "ongoing pain" - again it wasn't pain, just an unpleasant internal 'tugging'.

All in all not an experience I would rush to repeat but not awful.

I had to produce 3 samples. First one after several weeks came back "sample spilled in bag". Second one I made double sure wasn't going to spill, but again after several weeks "sample spilled in bag". I was quite sure they were taking the piss so kicked off, called the lab etc. It turned out the lab had turned the results round within 24 hours and the practice just sat on them for weeks on end. I did a third and chased it through, got a call back from doc the following day to tell me the result - I was a officially a jaffa. Hurrah.

I'm a wimp you'll be fine.

Don't wear the daft bra thingy, that hurts more than the procedure.

You'll be fine!

Thanks Chaps! I'll look out the old boxer/trunks from the back of the drawer that fit fine a few years ago...but are now on the snug side!

Not worried about it after reading your experiences, I also have no intention of watching!

I'd buy some good old fashioned underpants if I were you. I got a cheap pack from Primark which I only used while healing and then chucked them and went back to my boxers. You really do need proper 'cupping' support. On the plus side, when the Mrs see's you in those pants she's not going to be pestering you for any risky bedroom action

Had mine done about 9 years ago. Would do it again tomorrow. Made a big (positive) difference to our sex life.

I was told to wait three months before sending off the sample, and got the all-clear after I did. Mate of mine when he had his done asked whether it was a duration thing or a "number of shots" thing. Was told they allow for 30 shots so off he went. Managed to knock out the 30 shots within a month and got the all-clear... plus an infection hehe

The good one to have (although not ideal for other reasons, natch) is prostate removal. My dad had his cancerous prostate taken out at the age of ~60. My mum confirmed to my wife (who hadn't actually asked) that since the op he no longer produces anything at all "so there's never any mess!" irked

Had it done umpteen years ago, no problems, other than uncomfortable for a few days afterwards.

Don't forget, you are still fertile for n number of ejaculations.

Can't remember how many n is.

I was told to double up on underwear. It worked a treat and really increases support down there!
