For no other reason as i want to cut down on sugar intake, and caffeine consumption

I used to have 2+ spoons of sugar in my "hot drink" i cut that down to 1 around 3 years ago, i have tried to go to zero but i would rather go without.

So last monday i went cold turkey, it was a strange feeling as for the first few days i was craving coffee, well i think i was but i think i was craving the sugar in it.

A week and a day later the craving has gone but now i find myself sort of at a loose end, hard to explain i think it is routine. Like today had a busy day organizing builders and came into the kitchen to have lunch and put the kettle on automatically!, in the morning i used to always have a coffee with my breakfast, i now feel odd without have it, sort of lost.

I gave up pop fizzy or other pop many years ago so only drink water which to be honest is boring i know.

Hard to put across my point, but i feel like someone who is trying to give up smoking and uses a fake plastic cigarette to curb the craving except i am not sure what to turn to?

Don't like green teas or such, have thought about cup a soup's but they have more sugar in them than the one spoon i am avoiding.

Anyone else given up caffeine

Caffeine free tea and green tea no milk and no sugar is my hot drinks of choice and the occasional caffeine free espresso but with one sugar.

Decaf yorkshire tea.

I've not given up but given for a good 15 years I've basically only drank tea and water and with high BP issues recently decided among cutting out salt the times come to begin cutting back on caffeine.

Decaf Yorkshire is no Yorkshire Gold (the tea of tea's) but it's passable and rather than cold turkey I feel it's better off cutting back that cutting out.

Also there's green tea and then green tea, if you find it a bit bitter try Sencha green tea as that's a bit smoother and is my GT of choice.

Just try tea without, you'll soon get used to it. I used to have three sugars, can't stand any sugar in mine now smile

I gave up sugar in brews when I was about 15, I do occasionally have a cup of tea with one sugar in, if I am flagging and need a bit of a blood sugar boost, 1 sugar isnt anything like a lot of soft drinks.

My missus freaks when my blood sugar is low after cycling, I come in the door and eat tablespoons of sugar on it's own. Makes perfect sense to me hehe

I stopped drinking tea in January to cut back on sugar. Averaged four or five cups a day and with two sugars it adds up.

Managed two months. Substituted for water or no added sugar dilute but tbh didn't feel any noticeable difference or cravings. Drinking tea again now but perhaps time to give it another shot or at the very least cut down to one or two cups a day. Sure the waistline would appreciate it.

I gave up caffeine nearly 15 years ago and had a headache for 3 weeks, then it went and since then I've been able to sleep much better and whilst I miss the smell, I can easily do without it.

As caffeine tends to make me a bit hyper/twitchy, I now have chicory instead. I like the taste and I don't get any of the negative coffee feelings.

I get mine from Holland&Barrett.

I can't remember if it was The Sweeney or Minder as it was so long ago, but some character (Alfie Bass?) says to Dennis Waterman:
"There are two things in life I can't stand; cruelty to children, and sugar in tea. Not necessarily in that order"

I switched to decaffeinated everything in December, around the same time as I gave up alcohol. For me it was due to some pretty strong anti-psychotic meds I was prescribed, but I'd known for a while my caffeine and alcohol intake was too high. I had tried giving up caffeine before, but like another poster on here, I had a horrendous headache and failed miserably. I've found it quite easy this time round though, bar one blip with alcohol where I had a funny turn one evening and drank like a fish (issue with meds affected me, meds rapidly changed afterwards).
I've not noticed too many benefits as the meds are pretty brutal, but my skin feels a lot better for some reason, and I know that my body is probably thanking me for the change. The next challenge is trying to cut down the sugar intake, which I've done quite well thus far, but I need to cut out the chocolate and sweets that I have as an occasional treat.

Tea, coffee and chocolate definitely harder to give up than smoking and booze. They are much more subtle stimulants. The taste and ritual of a good cup of tea, at any time of day, with several people or solo, is one of life's great pleasures. Whether it is good or bad for you longterm is still up for debate.

My wife gave up caffeine about 2 months ago, like someone else said she suffered terribly with headaches for about 10 days but has since said she sleeps so much more and better quality sleep.

I drink maybe 4 cans of Pepsi max a day. It's about the only caffeine I have, I don't really drink tea or coffee unless I visit my family who are chain tea drinkers and that's only once every couple of months.

I agree. I used to take 2 sugars in tea and coffee. I tried sweetners but didn't like them. So I cut out any sweetners in tea and coffee and soon became used to it after a few days.

Recently someone gave me a coffee with sugar in it by mistake, and I couldn't drink it, after nearly spitting out the first sip!

I was quite surprised how quickly I got used to no sugar after taking it for years in my hot drinks.

I did cut right down on it for ages but then got back into the habit.

Normally a morning coffee and a couple of cups of Green or "white" tea through the day. Green and white tea are still caffeinated albeit much less so than the black tea that most people consider tea.

Fair play though I gave it all up for a while and just drank huge amounts of water (tap and sparkling) but I haven't noticed feeling any worse since starting again, other than sleep if I drink it too late in the day.

I find myself nodding along to the comments about it being part of your routine and suddenly I understand when my mum says she has to have a cigarette at certain times of the day.

That's Red bush (rooibos) tea. I have red bush or decaff in the evenings. I don't drink caffeine after 5pm or I have trouble getting to sleep. It could be a good option for the OP to have without sugar as it isn't bitter like green or normal black tea.
