This F*****g hurts, is it a Whitlow? & if so, is there anything I can do other than wait for it to go away?

Spoiler tags for fairly gross finger picture.

Soak it in hot salty water. Will sting/hurt like a b1tch - but will draw it out. You'll need to keep doing it a couple of times a day however.

Soften in hot salty water, pull up the cuticle, and then stick it with a needle. Then rinse and repeat for several days/weeks until it's gone. biggrin

Probably not what you're supposed to do, but is what I'd do!

Went to see the pharmacist, he said what are you worried about? You've got another nine spare.

Also said leave it if you can, prick it with a pin if you must, but that will leave you open to a worse infection. Worse??

Tea tree oil or cream works wonders.

The greenness does possibly suggest fungal infection though- has a doc/pharmacist actually seen it?

I really did go to Boots for a chat with the pharmacist, he said the green was pus & not to hit the panic button. I'm steeling myself to pop it, it stings like a bh.

Yep it's a whitlow also called paronychia. It could possibly do with draining - just for pain management reasons if nothing else, they hurt like fk when there's pressure up at the top of the nail like that - and this is the sort of thing that the nurse at your local GP surgery is there for, which also avoids most of the worse-infection potential which would certainly be a risk if you went DIY.

Not a medic just get paronychia stloads - think possibly more brittle nails may be a trivial consequence of a genetic condition I have.

(If you are going DIY, use the sharpest thing you can find, and FFS actually sterilise it somehow. Cover and leave the fk alone henceforth.)

Assume OP tried to pop it and is dead unless we hear otherwise is the usual PH procedure...

Smiler.

It more or less doubled in size since the op, actually woke me up at 4am, I literally couldn't take any more, so dunked it in Scotch, heated a needle on the hob & pricked it. Squeezed a ton of gunk out, which was satisfying, I can't deny, then slathered it in Germoline & stuck a plaster on it.

Still going to see the nurse later, but even if I end up with amputation, it was worth it for the blessed, sweet relief.
