Worlds strongest man competition - Spoiler alert
Discussion
Yeah he has said that he's retired from WSM now. I watched his film only last week and he did keep repeating the point that winning WSM was his life goal and that only a doctor or him dying would stop him! He's got a young family that he wants to spend some more time with, so imagine thats a contributing factor to him retiring.

Nice that he won it, but to give up now? At his young age, seems a shame. Though it'll be better for his health and family.
He's still going to be doing other competitions, and if (when?) someone beats his deadlift, he'll be back in the game in a big way.Shaw was third, again one point behind too. And Thor is claiming a problem with the count on one event that diddled him out a point (which seems reasonable from the footage).
Quite funny that the event is normally televised over christmas, not surprised the result has been released - social media screws up chances of such things being kept hidden.

Yeah, this is really annoying. I have sene pics of Eddie popping up on my feed, but I didn't realise if was WSM linked. I'll look now, but why the frak do they wait till xmas, pointless!!Halb said:

He's pretty much said that being 30 stone plus isn't good for a long life so he's achieved his goal and is retiring from international competition but will still be doing britains strongest man etc. Apparently he's going down to a relatively more healthy 25 stone lol. I'm pretty sure Big Z has done the same thing since retiring and he is now quite ripped rather than all bulk
Well done Eddie, a true beast.
Really hoped he would win WSM one day, but honestly wasn't sure he would ever acheive it as the standard is just so high these days. Watching some of his training vids, he clearly pushes himself incredibly hard, and it just can't been good for you in the long run.
So a sensible decision to retire now you have acheived your goals, and judging by the smiles we saw on Nico Rosberg's face in Monaco this weekend, retiring as world champion isn't a bad way to go!

I'd echo these sentiments, I watched the documentary on Netflix and also assumed he'd be doomed to coming 3rd etc. Really hoped he would win WSM one day, but honestly wasn't sure he would ever acheive it as the standard is just so high these days.
Good on him for achieving his goal
I saw something which said, Eddie had gone for points with stamina, but he had put on size/strength so he could get the points with maximal strength instead of eking out reps.
It's a shame he won't hang around to be dominant, but I guess looking at Marius' record and thinking, minimum 5 more years of this is a daunting task.

Outstanding effort from the big man. Sheer graft and determination beating more genetically advantage guys. Don't blame him for stopping at all. It must be a hell of a lifestyle to have to tolerate and put your family through.
Is it me or is Thor developing a bit of a whiff of the bridesmaid about him....I know he has said he wants to win WSM and then pursue an acting career (Namely be professionally massive on screen, I think acting may be stretching it)...maybe he'll get tired and move this forward.
He'd certainly be the greatest never to have won it.....is that arguably the better legacy than a 1 time champ who had his 'turn'? Like Stirling Moss v Jenson Button? Sort of....maybe.....a bit

Thor should already have won it, I don't know if it was last year or the year before, but he made a colossally stupid error which cost him a tonne of points and he was nudged to second place. I recall thinking (and the presenters said the same), what was he thinking?!
I guess either Shaw will dominate or Thor will win next time.

I thought the judges decision disallowing Thors final viking press rep was wrong and consequently he should have won. Huge respect to the effort from all the competitors regardless, especially Eddie.
Thor wouldn't have won anyway. I dislike blowing smoke up Eddie's arse but 15 reps was all he needed as he went after Thor, do you really think that was his max?
He also didn't complete the last stone because Brian didn't, he was watching to see what was needed to win overall.
All tactical.
