They are all genetic freaks to an extent. It looks like shaw is taking the same route and leaning off a little with a confirmed break from compettition. This will probably leave WSM to thor next year as easy pickings .

Just like big Z these guys at ~25st are pretty ripped while still being a lot lot stronger than your normal gym goers.

Not sure about "pretty ripped". A lot of them are no leaner than the average bloke, just vastly bigger! It is extremely hard to get really strong without getting a bit fat.

The only folk that have looked properly ripped at WSM since 2000 have been Poundstone and Pudzianowski, most have looked ....rotund, or huge at best, rather than ripped. (there's likely a few others, but these two stand out)

THor looks damn good when he's 375-ish, his WSM weight does go up to 420-ish though.

Yeah, Thor can look lean, but not Pudz lean.

Different stacks, I expect! I dont think most WSM sorts bother to take cutting drugs.

WSM is less about athleticism and more about limit strength nowadays, Monsters rule the roost and being lean/too light can be detrimental. Though this years comp was a bit of a hash......

I've not seen it yet but tend to agree about athleticism.
I'm massively impressed by the strength of these guys, but it is starting to look a bit like powerlifting: unhealthy people with very narrow abilities.

That said, have you seen Shaw row 100m on an ergo?! The man is ridiculous.

Seen it, but he's still slower than Ross Love - it was funny them claiming a record without actually checking the existing record before hand (record was 12.8, Shaw did 12.9. Ross reckons he would have been able to go faster still, but has been suffering a recurring back problem)

On the cutting/physique - Z did get fairly lean last year, but bulked up for WSM - obviously too little, too late in his case.

0.1 of a second over the world record for someone who doesn't row. Pretty damn good if you ask me! It suggests he would smash the record with some practice.

His technique was bang on for the 100m; it was impressive, and I would think that he does row a bit (I seem to recall seeing something about Shaw actually ordering an erg - he ordered one with a longer seat rail).

I don't think he would smash the record with more practice ....

I’m recording the series and will watch it over the weekend (skipping ads and presenter waffle). I’ve known the result since this summer thanks to the internet, so it’s removed the excitement of watching as soon as it’s broadcast.

Enjoyed it as usual, but knowing who wins has took some of the edge off a little.

Enjoying it, only know who won it overall so it's still interesting who gets through.

That last man standing looked brutal

THis Last Man Standing is brutal, and am not sure if I think it's justice or not. One the one hand it rewards those who go all out at the start...but then, winning the points on their own does that, on the other hand it really penalises those who get bogged mid table...as if they aren't putting their arses on the line feat after feat.

in the last there years we have had situations in 50% of heats where the top two had. already qualified for the final pre Stones.... So the final TV part is a huge turn off for viewers. Why watch the last event stones when the top two men are already through. One argument of course its that is fair -= they are better - this is sport after all .... but Tv commissioners dont always like that argument - nor do ratings.. You guys might not turn off but a lot do...... and whether hardcore fans dislike it or not we had to do something to keep drama going to the end of the show - to keep the show going for another 40 years if possible why even have a final 6th event... But it has to be set such that someone would have to come off the canvas to beat the man in 2nd - as it isnt fair that under the old rules he may have qualified already after 5 events.... and thus didnt need to do the stones. So im afraid we. had to make 5th place's chance almost impossible. 4th hard, 3rd very difficult 2nd had to have that solid advantage - seemed fair. And stones is The Daddy of events - right? .. If you think back to last year in heat one it was over after 4 events. if I remember, ber correctly.... but we at least gave Belsak a punchers chance...., but appreciate your comments and im listening
He frequents one of the strongman groups I manage, that's his input and seems reasonable.
