the 'Tv commissioners' thing might be reasonable if the event was televised live or even within a week, but when it's a year down the line, that argument loses weight.

I'm still ambivalent on it though.

Hah the way that works is:
American TV pay for it, choose the date and countries bid for where it's hosted, Africa bid the most twice in a row.
American TV get the finalised TV footage first so it's aired quite early there.
Every other country "bids" for when they can televise it. Not sure if pay more for earlier or anything like that but the athletes can't announce they're the winner (or shouldn't do) until the last aired date which I believe is the UK.

I can see where Colin is coming from, but in every heat so far the last person starting the stones has been the winner. So you can confidently predict before the event who will win, which spoils it for me.

I think the key is to stop thinking of it as the last event. Look at it as a bonus event which gives the 3rd (and even 4th) placed guy a slim chance of snatching 2nd place.

Rather sad how lowly the UK looks on this sport. Team sports leave me cold, they're good for playing yourself, but a bit silly to take any real interest in people you don't know being paid for it. Something like strongman is the epitome of athletic endeavour for me, one human versus another human one on one, or at least individually.
I wish the BBC would pull it's thumb out of it's arse and buy it early. Maybe with the fourth UK winner it may help interest further up the food chain.

I'm not sure if they've just stuck to Christmas as it's like a tradition now? But seems silly to have world's so early on in comparison, especially with social media.

BBC won't touch WSM. It's too lower-class and doesn't play well at London dinner parties.

it was great to watch, wasn't it?

Had my fingers crossed all the way through that Eddie didn't pick up an in-competition injury. As it was, he out-classed his two rivals all the way through.

I wonder if he will retire now as he said through the tears?

An interesting video of Eddie's thoughts on The Mountain and his rep complaint. He doesn't hold back smile

I really enjoyed it and I'm chuffed Eddie won, I just find it a shame that he won't do the worlds again, but he has gone out on top.

Did anyone else find the events stacked more in Eddie's favour?

I wonder if Thor will be the 'strongest man' never to win the title, they showed a clip of some black American dude who holds that honour from the 90's(?)

Would be good to see Brian get a 5th title though

Great TV - watched it every year from when I was a kid. Not sure why I like it so much as I normally hate watching sport of any kind. I think it's the appeal of the simplicity of finding the strongest bloke with no weight or, presumably drug test hehe, restrictions.

Not sure why Thor was so upset about his rep being disallowed. It seemed fairly obvious that Eddie could have smashed out another one or two if he'd really needed to, so the results weren't changed.
