Right chaps, where at we at with Huel or competitor brands right now?

I'm asking because I bought Huel V2.3 in bulk 12 months ago and only just running out of it now... and lots of things change in 12 months!

I usually just buy vanilla Huel and add various Huel flavour boosts to it, but I see we have no moved onto V3 powder now and the price has gone up.

Is it noticably better than the old V2.3? Are there other products out there that we now consider to be as good as Huel for less money?

Thanks smile

I'm trying My Protein Whole Fuel Blend at the moment:
https://www.myprotein.com/sports-nutrition/whole-f...

I think it's much the same as Huel (or at least I can't see any major differences) & it's a little sweeter & a bit less gritty. I'd like to stay with Huel but it's just getting expensive now.

Firstly, thanks to Sea Demon for the heads up on adding 1 bag to a regular order. I didn’t want to buy 3 bags if I didn’t like it

Have tried the Thai Green curry - like it smile nice and spicy and tastes pretty good. Just like a veggie lentil curry.

Same here, typically a quarter of the price with the usual discounts and as far as I'm aware it's very similar. Tastes fine, fills me up the same and if anything is a bit easier to hand blend just by shaking it up.

It's only one meal a day for me so not too worried if it's not exactly the same profile. Pretty staggering price difference.

Yep. I've been drinking Huel shakes for a few years, going through periods of one or two a day, so when I saw this I thought I'd give it a go.

Thai Green curry is pretty spicy (which is fine by me) but doesn't thicken up as much as the Tomato and Basil. Both taste absolutely fine. Thought there might have been an 'odd taste'/ 'odd after taste' but taste... normal.

Thumbs up from me but could do with some more variety a bit further down the line.
After a few weeks now of Huel Savoury/ hot lunches.. .. I'm still massively loving the Thai Green Curry but have decided the Tomato is not for me. It's just too rich (add in to that the herb stalks you have to pick out of your mouth) and I ended up pouring the last lot I made away.

Decided i need to do something about my weight, blood pressure going up etc, not that i am massive but i am the heaviest i have ever been.
So i've decided to give Huel Black a try as its less carbs, will still eat breakfast which is overnight oats currently and normal dinner and see how we do.

Due to long term health effects, i am not expecting to see similar results to most but if i can stay away from chocolate, sugary fizzy drinks, then this might start me off.
If needs be i can always look into the myprotein option.

The main selling point for Huel is the convenience i.e. if you're on the go etc you're not picking up crap. Remember it all boils down to calories in calories out. Getting Huel black as it's higher protein less carbs but having a bowl of oats for breakfast seems slightly counter productive, chances are of yiu cut out all chocolate etc and the things you like will probably result in a crash and binge at some point. Try tracking your food for a week to give a calorie total, you can then see where you are and would be surprised what you can do with some little tweaks.

I did and surprisingly i eat very little but the vast bulk of what i consume is convenience food during the day or stodgy rubbish, so this option will at least start me in the right direction
Granted, overnight oats does seem counter productive if i go with the black version but then looking at what i eat, there is an awful lot of carbs and for the amount of oats i put in, it really isnt going to make that much difference but thanks for your suggestions, i have to start somewhere after all smile

If you are gaining weight or not losing , you are consuming too many calories. It’s as simple as that.

The overnight oats are fine to eat for breakfast. Why not have the huel for your lunch, then eat a normal healthy evening meal?

Good luck with the changes you are making smile

Think thats what the OP has suggested. A 90g serving of Huel black is 400 Kcal. If you've the time you can knock up a decent meal for thr equivalent cals.

I've still a couple of bags. Working from home I've more a bit more control, go to quick lunch is microwaved rice, mixed veg some king prawns or chicken breast.

Jusk make sure you portion control that main meal. Plenty of calculators about to give you a figure to aim for weight loss.

Don't think you said your weight height etc but eg if you need 2000 cal to loose weight. Overnight oats ~300 cals 90g Huel 400 cal would leave the average male 1300 cal for evening meal and snacks. Things like cooking oils, milk, a little snack here and there all add up to be the difference between gaining/maintaining/loosing weight.

For an idea
I'm a pound short of 12 stone and 5 ft 7, so about 1600 calories i think myfitnesspal recommended.
Oats wise, in the morning i probably use about 10 grams if that, 6 sliced grapes and 250ml of fat free natural yoghurt.
So that leaves about 900 for the evening meal, which is enough as i dont eat loads.

My trouble is, like others have said, i grab tasty convenience food and i know its rubbish but i do like my bed, so get up too late to do anything about making decent food.
So this is a start on the road to sorting out my nutrition which is the biggest hurdle.

I am sure it will work for you. Also 5'7" and got myself from 12 stone 7lbs to 10 stone in about 5 months with a similar diet. Poridge for breakfast, huel for lunch and low calorie evening meal. Have kept weight off for next 7 months since, now do more exercise to allow higher calorie eating but still use huel for weekday lunches.

Trust Me, I'm a Doctor s9,ep5 on iPlayer includes a look at Huel. 6 days transitioning and then 4 days Huel only.

Good results on the makeup - they agreed that it provides 'complete nutrition'.

Biggest difference is a lack of satiety on the Huel diet as it's digested more quickly than solid food.

So far i've decided that chocolate flavour is a bit sickly.
If i have one in the morning and one at lunchtime, i am usually full up until Dinner time.
By god it gives you bad wind yuck

Just decided to move back to huel as breakfast and lunch has slipped back into being bread bread.

Bought the hot and savoury. Not tried the tomato one yet but the thai one was pretty good! Easily tastier than any ready lunches and good to know that its nutritionally correct.

Not that I am travelling much now, but my ideal usecase of huel was needing to get up at 5am for early trains. Simplest way to put some calories in me for the day with much prep.

I went from 21st 6lb on the 6th Jan to 17st at the beginning of June, and stayed there since (I’m 6’4”)

Did that having 400 cal of shredded wheat or porridge for breakfast and 400 cal of Huel for lunch with a 1000 cal dinner and snacks to bring it up to my daily limit.

Started getting the hot Huel a month ago, love the Thai, the Tomato is foul, binned the first one I had halfway through.

One thing I have noticed is I feel hungry a lot sooner with the hot compared to the shakes.
