Day 77 for me and 28lbs down.

Under 50g of carbs a day and 14 hours cycling a week.

Compared with other diets I'm finding it very easy to stick to.

The exercise helps but prior to low carbing I was cycling 10 hours a week eating my normal diet and no weight loss at all.

I've been trying days of my own version of OMAD(one meal a day) keto coffee for breakfast and lunch then a decent low carb meal before 2000hrs.

I used to eats loads of chocolate and have a really sweet tooth but the berries and cream or a couple of squares of 85% dark chocolate seem to satisfy me now.

It was this thread that got my interest and then Utube channels and various websites filled in the details

It feels like a lifestyle change for me.

Been doing a sort of Keto but certainly low carbs, based on this. 27 weeks & 15.9Kg lost. This included a period with a torn cartilage so unable to move much. And very little cycling done this period because of other commitments. Doing one meal a day or close to it. I struggle as I travel a lot for work so can be a challenge. About another 20kg to go I reckon.
Thanks everyone here the support & help here has definitely assisted!

Day 2 done.

Tricky one today because it’s my mums birthday which included a meal out, and everyone around me having cake!

Actually, I’m really pleased because resisting the bad stuff wasn’t actually that tricky at all. I haven’t felt particularly hungry all day really anyway. The restaurant had a few keto friendly options, I went with butterfly chicken peri peri, and asked to swap the fries for asparagus, which came covered in Hollandaise sauce lick

While everyone had their desserts I had a nice coffee which helped keep myself occupied instead of wishing I could have one.

I love that I can still comfortably eat out though, as it’s something I do enjoy.

Funny taste in my mouth and dodgy breath has began, a lot sooner than I thought!

That should pass. It may linger from time to time if you’re one of those who ‘enjoys’ cheat days or excessive protein - in which case you’d be regularly flirting around the edges of ketosis. I’ve been balls deep for several months, testing my blood once a week and always measuring at 2.5-3.0 mmol/L and I never experience the bad breath or funny taste thumbup

ETA: To entertain my own curiosity I measured just now at 2.7 mmol, which is what I consider to be absolutely perfect. No adaptation-flu or bad breath for me biggrin

Bad breath has passed thankfully.

Day 6 today and I’m struggling a little bit, I do have a sweet tooth and this is where I may fall down - however, 4.5 lbs down (probably mostly water, but even so...) so it’s keeping me motivated to carry on.

Mrs wants a takeaway curry tonight... I’m not overly keen on the mega dry dishes like shashlik, can anyone recommend a dish that might fit the bill?

Push through this phase. You will come out the other side feeling great, and you won’t have a sweet tooth.

Can’t help with takeaway dishes, as personally I don’t trust anything that I didn’t make myself or isn’t a whole food.

And whip up some stir fry cauliflower rice to go with it, loads of simple recipes online, dead easy and something to soak up the gravy

My keto diet has come to an end. Lost 1.5 stones and felt good on it but I have been suffering from bloating. Did a food intolerance test and I'm intolerant to eggs and cheese which made up a large part of what I was eating. Now on the elimination diet to confirm the intolerances.

Love cheese as well. Fml.

I've put a yt podcast in the diabetes thread. It has a paleo guy and a calories guy. Watch it, you may find it interesting.
I've also been watching a guy called heal your gut on yt, he healed himself of issues, it may be of use. THere's also a guy called gojiman who is willing to do free tests for people.

Sorry to hear that. I love eggs and cheese also, so feel I your disappointment there.

However, it’s no reason to throw the towel in with ketosis. The range of compatible grub is vast. Eggs and cheese are not the only ketogenic-friendly foods. Of course if you choose to quit then that’s your choice, but that reason in itself doesn’t seem rational. Think it over before waving the white flag thumbup

Incidentally, for anyone interested, it’s fairly easy to over-consume protein if you’re munching on too much cheese. Many hard cheeses can be around 25% protein, so scoffing it down in blocks can very easily contribute to taking you out of ketosis.

Thanks fir the advice Halb and Kenny.

The main reason for all this is because I went to the physio the other day with back pain and he diagnosed it as a hernia forming due to the pressure of the bloating. The last thing I want is a hernia so I'm going to do the elimination diet and see if I can get the bloating down. Then I will try and re introduce cheese and then eggs and see what happens. If I could I would stay on the keto diet permanently.

I already feel like I want to power nap in the afternoons and I never napped once whilst on keto.
The only positive at the moment is I'm trying to gain muscle so Its a good excuse to get a lot of calories in. This was one of the things I was struggling with, no matter how much food I put in I had to keep putting new holes in my belt as my waist got smaller and smaller.

Keto diet is definitely something I recommend to people, the alertness and never feeling tired during the day is worth it alone.

Sure. One of the biggest take aways from the 3hr podcast (it was very informative) is that there is no catch all, people do thrive on different ways, and it's good to mix it up.
Workig out what is going on in your gut is a great idea, strip it all back, and do some working out. Send en email to gojiman, he's started doing a free test a month, you never know he may help you along with the other stuff you're already doing.
hope you sort it

From your experiences of the positives, I’m fairly confident you will end up back on keto, even if it means abstaining from eggs and cheese. Ironically, most people report the opposite - reduced gas and bloating. I haven’t farted in eight months biggrin

But clearly something is causing you gastrointestinal distress. Hope you get to the bottom of it. Keep us all updated. This topic is a fine informational resource and a great place for us to share our experiences and ask questions thumbup

I heard a snippet of information earlier that Ancel Keys didn’t even follow his own advice, and was often seen munching on bacon and eggs for breakfast, years after he bullied his hypothesis into the public consciousness. I can’t speak for the veracity of this claim, but if true, it would certainly explain why he lived to a ripe old age biggrin

I'm three weeks into 30 days zero carb.
Thoroughly enjoying it now, though the first week or two was a bit up and down. Periodically felt a bit sluggish and struggled to concentrate at times but now I feel great. Steak three or four times a day has not become boring, in fact I'm loving it, but as someone else mentioned - the smell of fried steak is wearing a bit thin now. It permeates everything. Extractor fans, windows and doors wide open - still it lingers for hours.

Another week or ten days and then I think I'll revert to VLC keto. Not sure yet what carbs/vegetation I'll include but lamb and chicken will be back in the mix, as well as some fish/shellfish.
