Thanks for the replies, Jim and LT.

If you'd care to re-read what I wrote, I said I was cancelling my Huel subscription and concentrating on going 'keto'. I also admitted to drinking too much, which I am to change, starting today.

My desk at work is now stuffed with nuts, jerky and pork scratchings. There's also some cooked chicken and cheese in the fridge. Had meatza for dinner last night, too.

Now, about those recipes.....?

Keep it simple.
Meat and eggs. Occasional low oxalate/low carb veg for 'variety'. Sometimes have dairy in the form of butter, yoghurt or cheese. Very occasional gold top milk or double cream.

...or... plenty of 'keto products' and recipes out there, but they either keep you thinking about/wanting 'normal' food or are simply junk in disguise, just low carb junk.

Sorry, I'm a late comer to this thread/idea.

I'm interested, but all I seem to be able to find on line, are links to sites where you fill out a questionnair, that then leads to a sale of some kind frown

Can anybody recommend a free guide/site, where I can get an idea of what's involved, to see wether it;s something I could stick to?

Many thanks smile

There's a decent basic guide and recipes here:
https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto

If you want to know the why and how read the books by Gary Taubes and Nina Teicholz.

Looks like I did misunderstand so apologies.

Crustless Quiche is your friend for work I found. You can load it up with loads of tasty fatty meats and cheeses and both of those have protein plus the eggs.

I've been doing keto since this March, most of the info I've used has come from Reddit guides/wikis on https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/ (bigger, but with an American bias) and https://www.reddit.com/r/ketouk/, plus the "forum" side is generally quite active and helpful for any questions.

Bloody hell, 3kg from one big night?
Oh yeah. It can do quite easily, especially if your body is already a bit low on fluids. Foods like pizza, bread etc are very dense and also act like a sponge for beer and sugary pop. I've had it happen on many occasions when I've been low-carbing and decided to celebrate reaching a target with a big carby feast like that. 3kg is the top end but a 2-2.5kg increase is pretty much guaranteed on the scales the next morning after an 11" pizza and some beer/pop the previous evening. Add on some ice-cream or cake as well and you'll be looking at 3kg.
Almost half a stone, what utter bks!

3,000 calories in a pound of fat so 19,800 calories you managed to eat and your body managed to metabolise and turn into fat. Very impressive, in ultra marathon circles it's regarded as around 6,000 calories the body can take in over 24 hours so I would say it's very unlikely you have to worry about even a third of what you put on being fat.

Also worry noting Keto is probably the worst diet to do if you want to have cheat binges.

Another armchair expert talking st! Read what I wrote instead of making st up to suit your argument. Unlike you, I don't have reading issues and those are the differences in numbers on the same set of scales before and after a huge beer & take-away binge.

Dunno about the veracity of the numbers but I've read similar on Reddit et al about carb-binges on keto. Would it be possible if enough food was eaten and the weight is just that - weight as opposed to measurable fat gain? Water retention and a pre-poo weigh?

Don't get too excited, alcohol contains carbohydrates. Knock yourself out of ketosis too often and you'll be piling the fat on.

Cheats on keto tend to be fat based - peanut butter with a spoon, or clotted cream with a couple of berries.

I would normally agree with you, but, this states otherwise?

Of course, I could be, and probably am, reading it wrong?

Even with zero carb booze the body has to burn through the alcohol before it goes back to fat burning IIRC.

However if you know you're the sort that can have a couple and leave it at that and you're on vodka, brandy, some wine you should be okay. IME though it's best to get fully adjusted to keto in both lifestyle and body before having alcohol. And beware your tolerance may go down on keto.

I don't disagree with his measures, but if you think you can do keto and drink alcohol regularly you should keep hold of the bigger size trousers. One glass of wine will knock you out of ketosis for up to 24 hours. Do it often enough, while eating a lot of fat but not getting good at burning it, and you can guess the rest.

Yeah. That's not going to work too well. frown

Keto works because it keeps your body in fat burning mode by not giving it any alternative. It's not a quick switch. It takes about a month to "transition" when first you make the change. From then on you can have the occasional blow out and transition back over a day or two, then carry on. But you can't do it every week; you just won't ever be fat burning. And you'll be eating a lot of fat...

The first month was the hardest for me, learning what food is ok and portion sizes, after then, I stopped weighing everything as it became routine.
It can be more of a challenge eating out, but you can usually find salad and chicken/steak.
It has been easier than I expected sticking to the diet and 20kg (3 stone) down in 4 months from 105kg smile

Good luck!

Wow. That seems rather an overreaction when all I'm doing is actually giving you some facts that should make you feel better.

My figures were out by 15% ish it's actually 3,500 calories so yeah 23,100 calories.

I'm not saying you are a liar (why would I) or that your scales are wrong.

I'm just letting you know that your body couldn't possibly have stored all that weight as new fat. It's genuinely impossible.

Your weight is probably mostly water so it should come off within the following days. I used to have the occasional binge and saw some great numbers on the scale the next day. All dropped off within the week but I never did Keto for weight loss I liked the mental clarity and the endurance energy it offered for long distance activities.
