Do you or does somebody you know have an unusual phobia?

We all know people with irrational fears of spiders or heights but I'd be interested to hear about some of the rare ones and how they impact day to day life

There are websites that list hundreds if not thousands of phobias, many are fears of seemingly inanimate objects. Does anyone have any of these?

I have a phobia, and I hope I don't offend anyone, of Artificial limbs. Especially arms. Legs I'm a bit better now. If I see someone missing and arm, I'm fine. If they've got a prosthetic, I freak out and have to walk away.

Reading that lot made me wonder if anyone has both Agraphobia, and Agoraphobia, fear of being sexually abused in an open space?

Those are not phobia's. Phobia's are abnormal (ie irrational or extreme).

I doubt they are the only ones pre-programmed either.

Cliff tops .

I can't go any where near the top of a cliff. I can't even bear to watch people near one, or see films of people walking near a cliff edge.

I used to know someone with Koumpounophobia - the fear of (clothing) buttons. That's a pretty random one and made buying clothes challenging by all accounts.

My granddad had a prosthetic leg. I didn't know at the time but he used to bounce me on his legs. It fell off when I was on it (would have been around six?). It scared the st out of me. Took me a while to get over that one.

For me its toilets. Public toilets are a no no, I would rather piss in a bush. Work toilets I can cope with pissing in, but I can't st in other toilets other than mine, and only then its the upstairs one.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I've taken a st in other toilets in the last ten years...and thats been a case of you either get to a toilet or you st yourself.

I have a major fear of being locked into places - like in a room or building - and not being able to get out. No matter where I am I always have to be able to see a possible escape route.

Trypophobia isn't, I think, officially recognised. But I have it, as confirmed when a kindly PHer posted a link to a gross YouTube thread of a dog with mangoworms. Basically a fear of large numbers of closely but irregularly spaced holes, particularly where there's a suggestion of danger or just plain grimness.

Thinking back, it's always been something I've been aware of. Ever since I was little and I remember a Doctor Who episode where some monster's face was covered in holes.

A carrier bag, and an excess luggage fee, presumably...

Think a girl at my work has a similar problem. So going on holiday, how do you manage? Obviously you would need to use the one in your hotel room, would it take time to get comfortable with it? Does it not being "public" help?
