Very interesting to read what people suffer from. I can't bear the discussion of blood, veins, arteries, hearts etc. I'm ok-ish with blood generally, but the discussion of it makes me feel sick and dizzy.

What do you do on holiday?
My last holiday was 2007. That was for a week skiing in Bulgaria. I had it all planned, friend was staying on the slopes a bit longer. I went back to the hotel. Layered bog roll on the seat, hovered and went mid holiday. Then didn't go until I got back home.

I've been away for a few days since, go once before I go and then hold it in until I get back. Longest is a week or so. Not going to lie its part of the reason I've not been on holiday for so long.

I mentioned a fear of larges bodies of water or water under high pressure, I visited the Hoover Dam a while back and loved it but it did make my head spin a bit, the heat, the height and the water.

How the hell did this guy think that was a good idea, I can swim fairly well so the distance isnt a problem but those huge inlet towers make me shudder and swimming near them would induce fear.

Do you or does somebody you know have an unusual phobia?

We all know people with irrational fears of spiders or heights but I'd be interested to hear about some of the rare ones and how they impact day to day life

Good topic, Norman.

Since a very young age I had the classic life changing Arachnophobia, exhibited all the traits of a phobia, hair on arms standing on end, sweating and a instant focus on the percieved threat. Once I was waiting for the old woman to come in from a night shift standing at 3am in a lit bedroom staring at a spider on the ceiling knowing there was one in the box room too.

I was in my boxers.

I did a hypnotism session at London Zoo and it has all but cleared the phobia, even to the point of holding a tarantula and letting house spiders run over my arms. I don't want one as a pet and probably wouldn't go into that part of the zoo with any glee in future - however if there is one in the garage or dungeon I can get rid of it now with the glass/card method and all organisms, regardless of their skeleton placement survive the ordeal in tact.

Sadly this seems to have been replaced by another phobia. Shortly after the day I played GTAV and there is a side task where you collect spaceship parts or something and have to swim down to a downed airliner. Seeing that loom from the murky depths (even with the restraints and awareness of a video game) triggered the same reactions I had with spiders. Not as extreme, but I have to brace myself when I see pictures of anything submerged and man-made.

Horrific, can't imagine diving and seeing a sunken ship or plane loom from the depths.

It's recognised too - http://diveprice.com/submechanophobia-fear-underwa...

Anyone else?
