Wondered if anyone on here could give me any pointers as trying to see a physio these days is hard work!

Bit of a background, ive had Crohns disease for the kast 20 years and aftwr sevwral operations my posture is shocking, my spine curves causing rounded shoulders but is also bent the other way so my main core muscles that you can feel either side of your spine are stretched one side and weakened the other. I also have a massively tight neck which often gives me headaches. Whilst I'm still relatively youngI'd like to try and improve it a Bit and been reading lots of different stuff and hard to know what myth and what's fact.

I know it won't be a quick fix but if I can start to see some improvement it'd be amazing

I've started doing a 15 min core workout 3-4 times a week, it's supposedly cycling specific but lots of it focuses on posture and realignment as well as strengthening supporting muscles. Dynamic stretches and simple floor exercises. Have to say after 2 weeks I feel so much more comfortable on the bike as well as day to day working in the office, driving etc.

A few things were interesting and made a lot of sense- neck pain is often caused by shortened pectoral muscles as we sit with our arms in front of us a lot. the neck muscles have to fight against them all the time and eventually lose, causing neck pain. So counter intuitively stretching your chest actually helps neck pain. Also the "core" involves a lot more muscles than people realise- not just the rectus abdominus but other groups such as the glutes which help stabilise the hips and lower back when walking etc.

I found buying a book to look at worked better than trawling the internet, easier to flick backwards and forwards and photocopy workout routine sheets. loads of core strength books around.

Do you have a link for that, core strength for cycling is something I'm keen to improve too?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tom-Danielsons-Core-Advantage-Strength-ebook/dp/B00D616QPI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505892490&sr=8-1&keywords=cycling+core

Ignoring the self promoting "Tommy D says" columns and dubious ethics of Tom Danielson it's quite a good book as I get the impression it was written mainly by the trainer. There are videos on youtube which explain the exercises better.
