Thanks, lots of interesting comments. Maybe a lot more common than we think but I know there are also varying degrees of it.
Because it is a spectrum. Many people identify with some of the behaviours exhibited by ASD people and say they think they're 'a bit autistic'. But those on the spectrum only exhibit pretty normal human behaviours; just to an extreme degree.
I have always wondered.
I'm a strange one. I have long lasting friendships, but few of them. I enjoy socialising, but am not good at chit chat with people I am not close to. I have a feeling I am not the person that others are drawn to, and not the one that would be remembered fondly after a meeting. I avoid eye contact generally but am perfectly OK with it with those that I am closest to. But I do hate routine, st with dates, not particularly obsessed with anything, but do notice detail in things and find enjoyment in certain imagery and sounds that others around me tend not to see or value.
Am I autistic? No, I'm just an unlikable tt and I'm shy and weird!

I'm off the scale, maybe it's my mathematical brain. Er.....I was curious.
Thank you for taking the AQ Test. Here are your AQ Test results:

I suspect I'm mildly and it can get in the way but it's not too impacting. I've always been like this and just accepted it was how I am.
I have considered it myself, but ultimately I am a people person so I think I just have aspie traits. oldbanger said:
Ha! I got 16. However I think in shapes, have "issues" with patterns and have a few other stereotypical traits.
What do the first two points mean out of interest?34 here. I had no idea what 'very interested in dates' was all about, eating them? Going on lots of them? Collecting calendars?
I don' t like questionares like that, I over analise some of the questions and can't find an answer which fits properly, others I am happy with.

Same here! I got 32 on the test, particular the stuff about social situations, I can sometimes struggle with. Don't like the idea of them (usually fine when I get there!), crap at small talk etc. a lot of the time. Happy to spend time by myself than with a group. However I recognise that, and it's up to me to make the best of it, not make excuses.

Temple Grandin who is autistic and a zoologist argues that visual thinking being dominant over verbal thinking is an autistic trait. One example of a more extreme type of visual thinking is number form synaesthesia. Numbers make 3D shapes or lines. 34 here. I had no idea what 'very interested in dates' was all about, eating them? I also notice patterns very strongly, even in textures. Home decor is plain, by choice - tiles are single colour with textured patterns. Or I have very big patterns with few repeats. Strong busy patterns are really intrusive. Even strong textures are stimulating but in a good way. Clothes are the same.
I even work in a field which involves pattern analytics and specialised in that.
