Knee surgeon - anyone got any questions?
Discussion
I'm thirty odd years on from a comminuted supracondylar compound femur fracture. I've lost 2" out of my leg but made a good recovery to the point where I can cycle 100 miles on a good day and don't noticeably limp. I've no real knee pain to speak of these days thanks to keeping very fit but I'm sure the joint will wear out one day.
I've still got a Zickle nail down the length of my femur extending into the condyle. Have it removed prior to knee replacement or leave be as I'm pretty much OK for now?

go and chat to your GP about this, if he doesn;t know about TKR with nail in, then he'll send you on to a man/woman who does.I've still got a Zickle nail down the length of my femur extending into the condyle. Have it removed prior to knee replacement or leave be as I'm pretty much OK for now?
It’s because I exercise I hopefully won’t need one for another few years yet. I was told it’d need fusion 25 years ago but the more sensible exercise i do the better it gets
I guess my point is I’ve still got enough capacity in me to recover and regrow missing bone before a TKR.

Had a appointment with a consultant this morning. I partially dislocated my left knee in the spring - not for the first time - and had been having physiotherapy since then, in an attempt to strengthen it. Today the consultant said I need a patella stabilisation procedure. Have anyone had this operation? How did the recovery go?
I've been advised that I'll be unable to drive for 4-6 weeks, which will be difficult as I have an 2 hour round time to work each day, and normally drive my son to school too.

You don't know a friendly orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in sciatica and degenerative disc disease do you?
They're not easy to find.
You have PM.They're not easy to find.
Not sure what happened to the thread but I appreciate my tongue in cheek question being answered!

Had ACL reconstruction last year (Oct '16) in my left knee following a football injury. Been passed/fobbed off by the physiotherapy team.
Over a year later the knee is still noticeably swollen over the right knee, although it's all soft and fluid like. I cannot fully extend or bend the knee. It doesn't cause me any real pain day to day, but I know it's there and it can occasionally become stiff. I can run on it fairly comfortably for 2km +.
Is there any way I can get my full extension and bend back? Can the knee be drained of fluid?
FWIW - I'm a active, otherwise healthy 24 y/o.
Thanks for any help!
Yesterday I saw a private physio, as I've ruptured my ACL and referral to the NHS physio wasn't until end of Feb. I had some acupunctune and ultrasound treatment to reduce swelling and was given exercises to do to build up strength and get full range of motion back. I thought it was well worth the £50 for the one off appointment and it sounds like what you need.Over a year later the knee is still noticeably swollen over the right knee, although it's all soft and fluid like.
