Blood pressure tablets

Lot os good information here http://www.bloodpressureuk.org/Home
After years of being advised my BP was borderline I agreed to the 24hr monitor a few weeks ago.
At 4am I’d had enough & took it off so it was a 20hr but still showed slightly elevated reading. My Omron at home supports this so it’s not WCS.
Now taking Ramipril & so far, no known side effects.
My diet is not brilliant (I have a sweet tooth) but could be far worse, I don’t drink much & have never smoked. Walk 3mls a day on average & probably just over 1st overweight.

While diet and exercise are key issues for many, hypertension can also simply be hereditary. At 4am I’d had enough & took it off so it was a 20hr but still showed slightly elevated reading. My Omron at home supports this so it’s not WCS.

Start of the year I went in to hospital for a routine arthritis appointments with my consultant. They took my bp like normal and it was 159/111.
In my defense I was very dehydrated, had only 3 hours sleep off a 12 hour night shift and I get nervous in hospitals anyway.
Made an emergency appointment later that day with my GP where it had come down slightly to 145/98.
Decided there and then I needed to lose weight and cut the take away's out (I'm 5'11" and 18st 11lbs on 11th Jan). Did my BP myself regularly over the next 2 weeks where I was classed as pre-hypertension.
Doctor put me on 2.5mg of Ramipril daily. First 5 days of taking it I lost the hearing in one ear, had tinnitus like humming in the other and I was getting horrendous headaches. I have not had the 'Ramipril cough' that others get. After those 5 days I was back to feeling normal.
I've now lost 4st 2lbs and my BP is healthy again. Hoping to stop taking the Ramipril before Christmas once I've lost some more weight (aiming to lose 6st) however I have since discovered that high BP runs in my family so I may have it anyway regardless of my new healthier lifestyle. Guess I'll find out when I stop taking the tablets.

I am sure Lisinipril an ACE inhibitor like your Ramipril gave me my very bad Tinnitus that has wrecked my life,,In my defense I was very dehydrated, had only 3 hours sleep off a 12 hour night shift and I get nervous in hospitals anyway.

What kind of hypertension on a routine check up would trigger 'go to hospital for tests and pack a toothbrush'?
Is there a particular level or is it a combination of hypertension with other symptoms? A friend of mine was checking in with a new GP, perfectly healthy as far as he knew, and hit something like 191/110. He was back in work that afternoon with a prescription and instructions to make another appointment.

I developed an allergy to Ramipril earlier this year, which I was taking to manage blood pressure (due to Kidney disease).
I had weight loss 10kg in 6 months, angioedema of my throat, sharp pain in my jaw as well as some of the more common side effects: fatigue, dry cough, dizziness, nausea.
I spent a lot of time in and out of hospital having tests (many sets of bloods, Xrays, CT), even though I've been discharged, I've recently had to have a Brain Mri as now at high(er) risk of aneurysms due to combination of my BP and Kidney issues.
Currently on amlodipine (which I've been on for years) and had a 24 hour BP this week on the path to trying to get my BP sorted again.

Been diagnosed and on Ramipril 10mg, jfyi the latest research says take your BP meds before bed as it is more effective!
The bit I read qualified that by adding that it might not be beneficial in certain cases and that it should first be discussed at your next BP review with the doctor.Well, my BP was perfectly normal 6 weeks ago but a routine Diabetes Clinic BP test this week showed high blood pressure (very high!!) and was sent for an ECG which I had yesterday. The ECG showed an "electrical" disturbance in the heart and the BP was still over 180. They have put me on Amlodipine 5mg once a day and I've read up on FruitFlow which from the blind studies that I've read seems to work so I'm giving that a go too, also, doctor told me to get a BP monitor and gave me a sheet to fill in for 2 weeks testing four times a day (2 tests AM 5 mins apart and 2 tests PM 5 mins apart). From what he said it might take up to 3 weeks for the BP to come down. Bit of a shock to find I have high blood pressure after having blood tests/BP tests every three months for the last 4 years with no apparent problems shown.

Good luck and would be pleased to hear 1st hand about fruitflow resultsWill do. I'm off to NZ for 5 months on Monday and have subscribed to Fruitflow for £15 per month and they will be sending it to NZ on a monthly basis at no extra cost and then to the UK on my return.
It's a bit more complicated with the Amlodipine as the surgery would only give me a prescription for 3 months so will run out early January. What I've had to do there is to register with the local pharmacy on-line system and they will get the prescription issued by the doctor and fulfilled then deliver to my daughter as the alternative address and she will forward onto NZ for me, hopefully that will work OK.
I have had a bit of a problem taking the BP readings at home as it would appear I go into a bit of a "panic"mode (white coat syndrome?) when I try and do it and get racing pulse and thumping heart so can't get a sensible reading but am working on it by doing some deep breathing for 5 minutes beforehand which seems to be helping if I do three or four readings at a time with 5 mins deep breathing inbetween each one (example 171, 156, 147, 128).

So, I'm not the only one that winds himself up when the cuff goes on the arm at home! Keep doing it regularly and you'll get bored and relax eventually if my experience is anything to go by.I’ve been on Ramapril and Amolodopine now for about 2 years, it has reduced my BP but recently I’ve had the prescription raised to the max dosage. I was in denial for years until the wife made me go to the quacks. This was taken in Walmart in Florida 3 years ago:
I found since being on the tablets my hangovers after a serious drink are majorly worse than what they used to be! Also, I don’t seem to have as much energy when I’m trying to play football as I used to, just feel a bit sluggish.

My gp told me the exact opposite,
But I am on lisonopril if it makes a difference.
It used to be advised to take the medication in the morning as your bp rises during the day, but I think the new research focused on the fact that your bp has a natural reset during your sleep pattern, but always talk to your quack first! But I am on lisonopril if it makes a difference.
