Have i broken my toe?
Discussion
I caught my little toe on a wardrobe when was 12, leaving it sticking out at a funny angle.
My dad took me to the doctor, who was convinced it was dislocated and then spent 5 minutes trying to put it back in without success. OUCH.
He then sent us to the hospital where it was confirmed as broken and they just taped it to the next one.
So from my experience, I'd say just tape it up.

OP - you should strap the toe to the one next to it quite tightly using tape. Not so tight you cut the blood off. Then you should go to A&E. If the toe is broken it might need attention and it's best to get it seen to asap.
The NHS guidance on the last page is to treat at home, there's a list on when you should present to A&E.They'll only go "meh" and tape it up if you turn up with that.

I've broken a couple of toes over the years. The bruising is similar to the OP's but it is merely symptomatic and not definitive. 'Stubbing' toes can give the same result.
The first time all the hospital did was strap the toe to the two adjacent ones and send me home. The second time I did it myself. Both toes give me some stick now, presumably arthritis.
I dislocated two toes, costing me a pair of brand new trainers, or at least one of them. Much more painful and took longer to return to normal. I've had no long term problems though.
Mind you, this thread makes me wonder what is normal.

From that bruising pattern I'd definitely say broken.
I've broken both my little toes doing football/karate when I was younger. All you can do is strap it and try keep your wait off it. I actually did a karate competition with one of mine still broken at the time and won both my events, proved to be quite good luck!
Also there should be some sort of warning put in the title of this thread, almost choked on my lunch when I saw the full extent of problems going on there!
