Our daughter came home from nursery last tuesday looking pale and saying her tummy hurt.

Next day she seemed better until she started complaining again and threw up later in the day.

This seems to have repeated all week, being ok, better or completely normal until later in the day when she starts complaining and then is sick.

Her screaming in agony got so bad on thursday that we ended up taking her to a&e, i have never heard her scream like she did, it sounded like she was being murdered, they did a urine sample and checked her stomach, told us it was a bug and on we went.

Again, she seemed better in the mornings, at this stage she has now eaten a few things like yoghurt but hasn't had a proper dinner since last monday.

Last night she was really complaining after being fine all day, even going out on her bike and saying she was well now. Then again sick last night.

She's up again this morning and is complaining about her tummy hurting again, mum has had to go back to work so there might be some pining there perhaps.

I did google and it says bugs can last up to 10 days! I have never heard this before but so far the details we have are:

bad tummy pain on and off
been sick occasionally
hospital doctor says tummy bug
wants to sleep a lot
doesnt want anything to eat unless she's feeling fine like yesterday morning.
google doesnt throw up its usual terrifying diseases with given symptoms.
my mum has now got a tummy bug since yesterday!

I dont really know what to do? has anyone heard of a tummy bug for this long? its day 6 now.

It's not unusual for these things to last over a week. I remember when our boy was around a year old and having a horrific bug, we got so concerned about him getting malnourished that we took him down the GPs, said not to worry, try to keep him hydrated and keep feeding him despite most of it coming back up again. Was better a few days after that.

Yep, some bugs can take time to clear up especially if she had been riding her bike too soon. Just let her eat when she wants and make sure she stays hydrated. Rest her as much as you can until she's better. Lots of tummy bugs doing the rounds at the moment.

She’s been seen by a doc. If you’re still concerned see your GP, please don’t take medical advice for a 3 year old from a motoring forum.

Oh I agree, wasn’t looking to find a cure as such more a case of does this actually happen.
Appendicitis was ruled out by the doctors at the hospital and when you google which usually brings up some horrendous disease even if it’s a headache this just says bug.
Have just never heard of one lasting this long.

Anyway by all accounts within about an hour of posting this she’s back up and right as rain again so fingers crossed it’s the end.

Another success for PH!

I was there when my daughter took my 5yo grandson to A&E because he was quite poorly. While we were in a side room waiting for the medic he started to improve and you could almost see the change happening. By the time the medic appeared after an hour or so he was pretty much back to normal and rushing about.

Yes, seem to be lots of tummy bugs about at the moment.

Well to update this she's still not well frown

Fine all day yesterday, then tummy pains at about 5pm then sick about 10pm. Same today, fine all day until about 6:30PM then projectile vomit about 9:30.

She has eaten a lot today though after eating literally nothing yesterday. My wife will take her to the gp tomorrow.

Surely with a bug you throw up after food, or you feel constantly sick, she's fine all day and then all of a sudden.

Googling symptoms does nothing except show a bug, hopefully it is jus that.

Dairy product bad for stomach upsets. Boiled water and when she can keep stuff down dried toast.
Not sure if you can use diolyte on a sprog but dehydration can be very quick, make sure you give her some hydration mix.

Wife took little one to the gp today who wasnt worried at all and said its a bug and they can go on for 14 days, if it hasn't gone in the next few they would do a stool sample.
She has only complained a tiny bit tonight, no sick yet so fingers crossed.

I'd agree with that, try and avoid the yoghurt and milk if possible, dry toast or banana

there are kids' electrolyte drink things, just had to give some to my littlest one this week (it's called Oralpädon here in Germany, slightly weird name)

Dioralyte can be given from birth - there's a Blackcurrant flavour one. I always feel loads better when I have it - I guess to do with salt inbalance.
