Bit of an insight there Mr Funk ... thanks for that, it's made me feel better about myself

Weighed myself this morning - it’s not looking good, I think last week might have been a weird glitch as I seem to be back up to around 88kg. Not sure why, I’ve not changed anything other than not being in a cold flat anymore. Maybe it’s the temperature! Either way, I’m not hopeful for Sunday as it’ll be another occasion this year where I gain, which doesn’t help with my enthusiasm for it, and I don’t think I’ll hit my 84kg target by the end of the year now.

I weighed in yesterday for the first time in a while after thinking my clothes had loosened off a bit.
Quite pleased to discover I weighed in at my lowest weight all year of 129.9kg, finally through that dastardly 130kg barrier.

Next target is to get under 20stone, which is another ~2.9kg / 6.5lb to knock off.

Could've been water loss Rob...

Either way don't lose heart, you're doing incredibly. Remember you're not against the clock and it's better to do it the right way.

You'll get there: keep going!

You’re right, I’m still considerably lighter than I was this time last year so I shouldn’t be too bothered!

Scales this morning say 88.5kg, so I think it must have been something to do with the scales. I’d notice 3kg I’m sure! It was the first weigh in since moving out of my flat and I guess I just didn’t have the scales on a flat surface.

Not a lot I can do and either way I’ve put weight back on which isn’t ideal but I’ll try again next week!

Strange how these things go, Rob, keep your head up. I put on four pounds last week and was scratching my head as to how, as I hadn't really been THAT bad. This week, weighed in this morning after a similar week and have lost five pounds. WTF? scratchchin . I weigh in at roughly the same time of day on one of those shouty machines in Boots that prints out the bad news, so can't put it down to any floor-related changes, the time of day or anything.

You've done brilliantly so far though, inspirational stuff. Think these weeks come along every now and then to test us.

Those glass top scales I have often show false readings on the first couple of goes. It's often under by 1kg which initially makes me quite excited but then I realise 1.5 kg in 24 hours is impossible so I get off and weigh again and it usually shows the correct weight then. Occasionally it will over-read by a kg or so but doesn't happen often. To be sure I will do 3-5 weighs until I get a consistent figure. The scales are always on the laminate which is level so I think it's just that electric scales are a bit st.

Minus another 1.4kg this week for me. In lbs it's a mental milestone as that takes me to 4st lost now which is a third of my 12st weight loss target.

Am at the gym tonight so will hopefully get a reading from the FitQuest machine again to see how things have changed fat/muscle-wise in the last week.

Total lost: 25.7kg (4st).

Never ventured onto this section of the forum before, I've also never been noted for my healthy lifestyle. frown

This changed when I had my first heart attack in April (Good Friday), closely followed by my second. I was rushed into hospital and fitted with a stent to my LAD artery, which basically saved my life and, whilst lying in a hospital bed being hooked up to all sorts of monitors and things, gave me time to reflect on my general behaviour.

I'm in my mid 60s and have smoked over 20 a day since my early teens, so over 40 years. This has now completely stopped, not even had a drag of one since. Yes I miss them but a glass of iced water is the go to substitute nowadays. I still have a pack of cigs and have put my NHS wristband by them to remind me.

I also realised that I was extremely overweight, hence the reason for this post. I was over 100Kg which, at 5'9" was excessive, especially as I was getting little or no exercise living a sedentary lifestyle due to semi retirement. I've always been "well built" as I did a lot of sports and workouts in my youth but that was an awful long time ago and had spread to the usual places. I decided that I was going to try to drop around 20Kg which, whilst not bring me to an ideal weight or BMI, will certainly make me feel better and should be a good start.

I started with my new regime about a month or so after my stent was fitted, taking it very easy at first. The diet was easy and I'm still following it to the best of my abilities. Basically I cut down on quantity rather than quality, substituting white bread for wholemeal and having less sugar in drinks. I've swapped snacks out for fruit as well. As for the exercise I started gently with a walk or two round the block which tired me. Eventually, and after a lot of perseverance, I graduated to all the way round the estate and ultimately beyond. I'm currently on around 10,000 steps/day, which is around 7.5Km. This tires me a bit so I tend to have the odd rest day which I feel are well deserved.

Since I started in earnest, probably mid May - early June, I've managed to lose 10.9Kg, bringing me down to 90.3. Whilst not being ideal I'm happy with how it's going and am going to carry on as long as I can.

Sorry to have rambled, just nice to speak about it really as I've hardly told anyone. smile
I posted this back in August and haven't really been in this section since, in fact I've not really been on many forums as I've been trying to alter my lifestyle.

I have however been carrying on with my diet and my own little fitness regime, losing a few grams most weeks though with the odd relapse when the call of a mixed tandoori grill gets too much to resist. smile I still walk most days, trying to stick to 10,000 steps though usually a few more. 5 miles tends to be about my limit, much more than that and I start to feel it. I usually give myself at least 2 days off now in the week now as 7 days on the trot was just too much for me.

I did have a bit of foot trouble (Plantar Fasciitis) which slowed me down considerably. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, it's like walking on a Lego brick with every step, though it's now a lot better due to compression socks, insoles and a splint for sleeping in. I hate getting old...

Anyway, I've now reached what had become a personal barrier for myself and seemed to take an age to get to. This was the elusive 80Kg mark, which was beaten this morning with a figure of 79.7Kg. Apparently my metabolic age has also come down to younger than my real age, again something I'd given up on.

I'll be continuing with this new lifestyle as I feel a lot better than I did and have decided that I don't want to be any less than 72Kg or much more than 76 so, whilst still having a bit to go, I'm happy to take my time with the last few Kg's

Evening all.

Apologies as i have not read this thread from the beginning and am looking forward to the 2020 thread.

Recently stopped drinking for health & habit reasons and initialy lost some weight. I seem to have found a sweet tooth i never had but according to the docs this is me subsituting for the sugar no longer around in booze.

Did the usual, joined a gym but have yet to set foot in the place, i seem to have a mental block about them despite enjoying them in the past.

I do have access to bikes, and great scenery - running has never "clicked" with me but admittedly i didn't give it much of a chance.

About me:

Age 40
6' 1"
103KG (Shade over 16 stone)

The consultant i've been seeing and the GP's concue that i need to lose weight and generally improve physical health that in turn will help the old mind re-engage with the (now sober) world.

Looking forward to having a better read of the thread and joining in over the new year and look forward to some advice on how to get to where i need to be.

Well I've been struggling for the last four weeks following a flying start in my ten week programme ... probably due to excess alcohol smile

Anyway with a week to go I'm a kilogram off my original target weight (86 kg) so I'll try very hard this week

By the way, last week I averaged 890 kCal/day including 11.9 units of vino beer

Well done to all still on the mission !!!

That's a low number, especially taking into account the booze. What types of lettuce did you prefer? wink

Yea it's low because I'm old and fairly inactive. I do do a bit of exercise at home (rowing machine) but more to keep my joints oiled than for weight loss. I've discovered that provided I eat fairly sensibly I can maintain my weight, but as soon as my alcohol intake goes up I'm in trouble ha ha !

Don't know if you read my first post, but last year I went from 118 to 86 kg in the 7 months up to Christmas, so this year's 10 week programme has been a bit of fine tuning to get me back to where I was last Christmas. (so my clothes will fit comfortably)

Back from SW tonight and a 0.5lb loss (0.2kg) this week. Am pretty much 4 weeks into my PT's regime so we'll be doing a body composition analysis tomorrow night to see what that reveals.

I'm actually happy with 0.5lb this week - we did 'family Christmas' yesterday as my mum's heading off to the US next Saturday to spend Christmas with my sister and her clan. I wasn't particularly good (or bad in all fairness) but it was likely to be the day with the most temptation and loosening of the eating reins. Other than a few meals out or with friends on a couple of days I've not got anything else planned so it should be pretty straightforward to stick to the plan from now as we head into 2020.

PT had me doing battle ropes last week, I've not been so knackered so quickly in a LONG time...! Loved it though! I'll share the results of the body comp. analysis tomorrow with you all, good or bad...

Ok I am in again, I started this year and lost interest around March/April.

This time last year I was 106.7, and got down to about 97.6 towards the end of February, then it crept back up and I can see that my last record on the table was 99.3 in early May.

My issue is I like a drink and that is predominantly I feel what caused my weight loss in January to mid Feb as I stopped drinking all of January with it tailing off significantly after Christmas day, my diet as a rule has always been pretty good; takeaways once a month tops, home made salads for lunch, most meals are from scratch etc. I like a drink and I know I drink too much. I am still active and walk my dogs daily.

My last drink this week was Sunday and that was just a pint with lunch at the pub and I have already shed 2kg since then; 103.7 on Saturday, 101.6 today; haven't been in the 101's for months.

I have a busy and strenuous 2 week holiday coming up in April which I need to be fit for which will involve high altitude; up to 5000 metres above sea level for some of it with spending 3400 metres above sea level for almost a week, plus I have now been diagnosed with asthma so I need to think of my health more.

So I am starting now, I will have drink and likely indulge with food over Christmas but you have to start somewhere, so if I can be put back on the table please with a starting weight as of 20/12/2019, of 101.6kg and I am aiming to shed at least 2 stone by April.

Good luck for 2020 everyone.
