Thx

Cheaper than I thought, how much does the NHS pay for libre sensors?
The NHS pays £35 per device which is operational for 14 days.

I have heard there are some supply issues with the libre device currently

Just a quick follow up:

Mobile cassettes: £9.99 per 50 tests (Still available in UK and Ireland but supplies can be sporadic)

Lancets generally £2-3 per 100

Needles generally £2-3 per 100

Sharpsbox £1 per 1litre size

Humalog cartridges per 5 pack £28.31, kwikpen pack of 5 £29.46
Lantus cartridges and solostar pen per 5 pack £37.77
Levemir flexpen for 5 pens £42.00

There is the potential with the libre device that you use less insulin as the glucose control is better.
Wow. Can you check the Novorapid pens please?

Regularly on PH, but never drop into "Health Matters".

T1 since 18th Dec 1991 @17 years old.. That date just sticks in my head !

I'm getting the Freestyle Libra "installed" on Thursday.
My brother (who was diagnosed T1 at the same number of days since birth as I was) has been using the Libra for months and says it's absolutely fab.

I watch him install the device over Christmas during a family get together. Not really looking forward to it as it looked a bit "brutal", but then again I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to pain !

My last HbA1c was 47 (6.5% / 7.7mmol/L). Over the last 2 years it has been as high as 62 (7.8% / 9.9 mmol/L), then in the mid 50's to the latest value of 47.
In October I moved over to Carb Counting which is a bit of a faf, but has transformed by stability.

I spent my youth not checking my bloods from one day to the next... as for University.. well.. I think I checked my bloods when my parents came down to see me and that was about it. Looking back how I made it through I'll never know !

I'm the same but honestly it doesn't hurt at all. I've been using it for about 8 ish months and the only time I've felt any pain was when I managed to put it in the the exact same place I'd had one recently before and even that was only like doing a finger prick test.

FreeStyle Libre fitted this morning.
Pain free ! I'm amazed (AND relieved!)

I'll report back in a bit and say how I'm getting on with it over my finger prick method.

NHS or self funding?

NHS funded thankfully.
Although my levels have been steady for a while now I'm using (apparently) a large amount of testing strips which roughly equates to the cost of the Libre.

Do it Libra is ace and has transformed my control. I can flat line through the night and I've reduced HB1AC to 6.4% 46mmol and its been hovering around the 6.3-6.6 mark for 4 months now.

I am astounded at how much better control and correction of basal rates it.

I self funded then managed to get onto a 6 month trial to see if it improved things. It has massively. Started around 7.8%

Dont react to it immediately. The temptation is to start changing lots at once but don't. Take the first week getting used to it and seeing how things affect BGs then slowly change meds and see the response. I belted straight in and got in a pickle, stepped back and gave it 6 weeks before playing too much.

I also changed my insulin to FIASP from Apidra as it is quick acting and it was highly useful to monitor that change.

Exactly what I was warned, don't make changes initially, although to be fair I don't need to / intend to either.
Currently on Novarapid and Absagalar as my basal as my old Levamir wasn't working working for long enough.

Hello

Type 1 for 38 years diagnosed when I was 3 years old.

Ive had a Vitrectomy on my left eye unfortunatly when i was eighteen I went on a few lads holidays on acted like everbody else Im not proud but think the damges that ive occured came from me trying to do as everyone else did at the time - hindsight is a wonderful thing.

was injecting twice a day until I went onto multi dose of 5 jabs till 6 years ago i went onto a pump that has worked so well for me currently on an Accu-Chek Insight also use a libre freestyle reader really helful with work just takes getting used to time delay compared to how accurate a old school blood test is.

last HBA1C 6.8

Been low carbing for a few months lost a fair bit of weight and gained a shelf of insulin pump carts.

Hi,

You sound very similar to me. An approach when younger which has not helped in the longer term

38 years a T1 (diagnosed at 7) with a vitrectomy in my left eye (at 33years of age) and plenty of laser. Now, I am waiting for a cataracts operation too.

But I generally feel healthy, with tiredness my only real bugbear, but suspect this is age/ hereditary/ and diabetes related

I am interested in pumps and Libre but have not really pushed it with my care providers as I think my control is reasonable ( but not great even now).

Freestyle Libre update.
Sensor failed get send a reading to my phone a few times on Saturday, then on yesterday from late afternoon it won't send anything to the phone. Just gives "Glucose reading is unavailable. Try scanning again in 10 mins".

Spoke to Abbotts and they're going to send me a new sensor. Not the best way to start a 2 week trial, but at least they're sending me a new sensor.

The failure rate concerns me, the things ain't cheap. Good to see Abbott doing the right thing.

Script organised, booked onto education course, easier than I thought, no battle required. If it all goes well, I'll look into getting a pump too. biggrin

Great news of success without a battle.

I’ve got two sensors on back order with the manufacturers (Abbott) for use against patients prescriptions - should receive stock next week as Abbott have a supply issue.
