Get the Williams / Penman book & start some meditations ASAP.
I bet you feel better after 2 weeks if you stick with it.
It's certainly working for me.

I'm happy to share the session I ran on Thursday on here but does anyone who attended object? Your chat messages will be posted as I can't remove them from the shareable recording.

You can find the recording of Thursday's intro to mindfulness here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lnKL-iIE4BZ-C-HVz...

Let me know if you have problems seeing it (I will have to find somewhere else to host it!).

It starts about 40 seconds in.

as a quick update:

the doc was correct that he could/would find a mix of meds to ease my anxiety. he did that.

however there were certain issues remaining that concerned him. this lead to discussion around previous treatment for depression and a little wander through my history.

to cut a long story short, he believes i have adult ADHD. having read up on it over the weekend, i think he's hit bullseye.

feels good in some ways as i always thought the depression was brief and normal, and the anxiety was situational brought on by a curious set of personal circumstances. didn't feel to me that either of those was my 'issue' but have always felt like a square peg in a round hole.

also feels very bad in a lot of ways. feels very frustrating to be finding these things out at the age i am now. a lot of things that people [romantic and professional relationships] have said to me in the past are now rattling around my head. its going to be an interesting few weeks....

I have been suffering anxiety all of my life and only just admitted it a week ago. I'm 40 now. It has held me back so much over my life and stopped me doing so many things. I have just hidden it and managed to avoid anyone knowing. I came from a north east pit town where you would never admit or talk about such a thing.
I saw a therapist on Friday about CBT and have my first session on Wednesday. It feels like a massive weight off my shoulders and I know I have a lot of work to do but for once in my life I feel quite positive rather than suicidal at points.
I am doing it privately which is how I got in so quickly.

Been on Sertraline for 5 weeks now and it's been a revelation, coupled with therapy - CBT and EMDR, I've felt the best I have in years, I honestly didn't think it was possible to feel like this.

Just checking in , not posted on here for a while. Feeling somewhat better , still have flare ups some days . I had a burst of the meditation 2/3 months ago I've slowly slipped out of it doing it every day. I suppose I've avoided facing it. Trying to redouble my efforts from today , I've listened to the audio from a few weeks ago.

Glad it's working for you. Same story here, started it about 8 weeks ago.

I had completely forgotten what normal feels like. I really wish I'd swallowed my pride and spoken to a GP 20 years ago.

The stigma around mental health must stop!

Slowly getting there. It's still tricky in many workplaces, though. https://www.time-to-change.org.uk/

Been on 200mg of sertraline for years. Done all sorts of therapies. Never really had anxiety until a few weeks a go, now I'm flippin riddled with it and some very dark thoughts. Dr put on propranolol which seems to be doing nothing. Great days indeed.

A small update from me, thinks are very slowly getting better but it’s only tiny steps, I’ll have a good week followed by a few really bad days where all the horrible thoughts come back and the night sweats accompanied by the weirdest dreams , now dealing with aching teeth because I’ve ground them down in my sleep, having a mouth guard made in the coming weeks, oh joy!
Meds continue at least until the new year.

I've been on propranolol for the past two months, and if I'm honest they've done nothing to address my actual anxiety, but did help me sleep slightly better as it reduced my racing heart. One of the more unpleasant side effects of this drug is that you're constantly breathless.

I had proproanol for a bit. It's a beta blocker to slow your heart and reduce blood pressure. They give it for anxiety to reduce symptoms but it doesnt solve the anxiety. I found them awful, made me so sleepy.

The only effect I'm feeling from the Propanolol so far is a tight chest which given I'm quite fit isn't a nice feeling. Not really helping with anything else.

Has anyone here every taken Sertraline for anxiety?

I'm waiting for a referral for CBT but the GP has suggested this as an intermediary measure for when things get bad.

EDIT-sorry hadn't seen the thread updates, clearly a few of you have taken it, feedback appreciated..

my job was made redundant on monday, currently 'at risk'

very pleased to report zero anxious episodes whereas usually i would have a million worries and what ifs. i've been on a personal journey these last 5-6 mths and the most important thing for me is to follow that to a conclusion.

also i believe the ADD thing to be even more bang on the money than first thought.

interesting week thus far...

Only 5 weeks to go until I start the CBT rolleyes

Really had enough of this now, I've suffered with anxiety for 17+ years and feel like it's getting worse as I'm getting older. I can't even attend family gatherings, go out for meals etc I just end up in an emotional quivering sweating wreck. Even out driving, if something happens like someone driving up my ass I can feel the sweat drip down my arms.

Went docs 4 weeks ago about it, and suggested the CBT but to avoid medication for the time being. I really do hope the CBT alone sorts it, I'm honestly not keen on taking meds with some of the side effects some mention on here.

st sleeping and headaches, virtually every day. Taking St. Johns wort supplement daily but don't think it's having any impact. Gave up on the CBD oil, Did nothing at all.

Have you tried practising mindfulness daily for a month? It's about developing a new habit in terms of stopping your mind going off on one which creates the anxious feelings.
