Cheeky check-in this morning and normal service is resumed; am already back to 19st 11lbs. Have postponed the PT session tonight as my shoulder/back is still not good at all; I was trying to think of things I could do that would avoid those muscles but even a deep breath is painful so resting up it is.

Just weighed myself for the first time since 18 Feb.

Not done anything in the way of exercise since lockdown and the gym shutting and gone back to my old ways of junk food eating. So actually surprised to have only put 2.9kg on. So I'm still below my start weight (just).

So from Monday I plan on trying to start again..

Current weight : 121.93kg

85KG 08/19 - 73KG 05/20 - 72KG 08/20

Finished a 12 week ‘body transformation’ thing that I signed up to a few months ago. Only lost 1KG during it but shaved a few more inches off the gut. There is a phase 2 to the plan but I’n reluctant to splurge another £250 on what is essentially a training plan pdf, some basic videos of the exercises and a calorie/protein intake chart.

Trying to work out what to do next as the spare tyre is still there. I have a basic weights set with some dumbbells too, leaning towards weights 3 days a week and some HIIT on the other days

Could always do the first 12 weeks again, I'd say that is a huge improvement. The difference in your posture is striking.

It was all resistance band based and got annoying after a while. The cutting phase during the last 6 weeks of it wasn’t easy. Was limited to around 1280 calories a day.

The posture change is quite startling, most of that came from the 85 to 73 phase which was done by sticking to around 1500 calories most days, a few HIIT sessions a week and a couple of 5 a side football matches every Sunday

As always I need a bit of advise.

Have been eating a steady 1750 calories and last few months have been losing weight. But last couple of weeks nothing.

Do I just stick doing what im doing and say walk to dog longer or do I drop the calories slightly ?

As you lose weight, you require less calories, as you have less body to fuel. So what may have been a calorie deficit originally, could now be maintenance calories.

It’s a good idea to re-evaluate your calorie deficit every now and then. Google TDEE calculator, and that should help you

I’ve not been updating this much. But now I’ve breached the 150kg for the first time in 8 years at 149.9kg down from 158.3 at the beginning of the year.

Afternoon all,

I'd not seen this thread before. There are some really encouraging losses in here, which is really great to see.

During lockdown I gained about 6kg and a sun tan from the fridge light! frown
I'd been doing really well until then, but a combination of a bit of depression and not being able to go anywhere / do anything / gym being closed didn't do well for me. I increased my weight then to 116kg.
In June 2012, after a lot of diet / exercise, I was 90kg, down from 125. Getting to the low 90s for me would be fine this year. I've never been a small chap, although I'm not as tall as many in here at 5'10" (179cm).
My gym check up and body scan this week showed I'm down to 107kg, which I'm very pleased with.
That's 9kg lost in about 10 weeks. I could lose weight quicker, but I'm not giving up beer like I did last time. That was grim.

I'm trying to keep to 3 gym sessions and 3 long cycle rides / week. I've done 200km on my bike in the last week (40 + 60 + 100), and as long as there's no snow on the ground, I will keep that going.

Good luck to everyone in your continuing efforts!

Firstly welcome to the new posters here - it's gone a little quiet as the year's rolled on (and lockdown/covid is no doubt responsible for a lot of wagoneers falling off..) but I and several others are still here plugging away...

As the OP I apologise for my own lax efforts over the last couple of weeks. Kinda needed a bit of working out how to post and I was lazy. Slimming World restarted two weeks ago which meant weighing in a) in the evening rather than the morning, b) wearing clothes and shoes and c) their scales not mine so I was trying to work out how to best approach it. Do I use their measurements going forward or continue mine etc?

Anyway, I weighed in at SW again last week at 20st 0.5lbs - 127.2kg. It was, in all fairness, roughly where I expected it to be as I'm always 2-3lbs heavier in the evenings and clothing/trainers adds a further 3lbs. However, my scales actually overread theirs by 2lb so that should write off the morning/evening factor at least..! I'll continue to use SW measurements from here on in just because I think it's easier.

So all that said that means last week (31st) shows a 2.5lb gain (previous weight was 19st 12lbs/126kg although that's a morning reading in my pants on my scales) and I maintained this week (7th).

I was also back in the gym on Saturday, and holy crap it kicked my arse. My nemesis, the FitQuest machine, says that since the last reading on 13th Feb I've dropped from 141.8kg to 127kg (14.8kg loss). My BF % and muscle % remain the same at 32% and 37% respectively. Again, all this was pretty much expected and the overall win is that I lost nearly 15kg total over that 7-month period.

PT & I decided to re-run the 1-rep max benchmarks (last one was 18th Jan) to find out the current state of play - with some not-horrendous results given I've not done any significant exercise since mid-March:

Bench Press Date 1RM % Change
21/11/19 39kg -
18/01/20 51kg +30%
05/09/20 54kg +6%
Leg Press Date 1RM % Change
21/11/19 - -
18/01/20 395kg -
05/09/20 345kg -13%
Shoulder Press Date 1RM % Change
21/11/19 41kg -
18/01/20 43kg +5%
05/09/20 35kg -18%

I need to re-do my plank and Cooper run as well, didn't have time at the last session. The most noticeable change was the decrease in cardio fitness - I used to be able to row easily for 45 mins, cover ~12km and my heart rate was rock-steady at 145-150bpm. However even 5 mins warm-up on the rower on Saturday saw my heart rate soar to 185+ and I was really feeling the energy drain away after a few mins... frown

Evidently I have quite a bit to do to get back to where I was but I need to get my head in the right place to go back to being at the gym at 06:30 every morning and 3 evenings/week. The other issue is that they're even busier at peak times than they used to be (when I would want to go after work etc) so I'd not even be certain of getting in when I get there. This may be alleviated when they go 24hr again as opposed to 6am-10pm as they are now.

I'm keeping the diet side of things on-plan and will scale up the gym stuff slowly again, mainly with an eye on cardio. One of the reasons my shoulder press was so crap was because I could feel myself going light-headed and decided not to over-do things too much. Shoulders and arms are my weak spot though, they're a target area going forward.

All in all it's not disastrous though and I'm looking forward to getting back in the groove with it all.

Another tentative new face on this thread. And I must say having read a good chunk of it there are some excellent results.

Due to a health condition I can no longer do any meaningful exercise (limited to max 3x per week of low to moderate exercise). This has been the case for around 8 years (since my mid-30s). I went from one of those people who did loads of exercise (cycling 250 miles a week) to this enforced state. I’ve done bits and pieces in the meantime, but it’s clear that even what I do has been too much. Prior to lockdown my exercise was walking between the station and the office each day.

Over time, my weight has crept up - in no small part due to a lifetime of a poor diet that was masked by being super fit all the time. From my fit days of racing my bike I’ve gained 4st/25kg. Not a good look for someone who naturally has a “sprinter’s build” at 5’7”/170cm.

I weighed my heaviest at the end of July. Lockeddown was hard - my OH and I both worked like dogs (I work for a healthcare business and we had to change almost everything we do) plus doing “school at home”.

Having decided this has gone on too long I started a diet in early/mid-August. We’ve been following the Diet Chef plan as a method of training our brains on what we can/can’t eat. For both of us it’s basic calorie reduction (though she’s also started some exercise after 10 years away from it).

I accept that at nearly a decade older (and with no ability to exercise my way out of this), the only answer is eating less. So that’s what I’m doing. My starting weight suggested I would need to eat 1650 calories/day to lose 1-2lbs per week. I have been able to undercut that quite often through a combination of choosing my calories carefully and, because of home working, eating at more predictable times of day (which has allowed me to cut out the fridge raising that was going on before).

I’ve also realised that I too easily have let previous efforts be derailed by other events (birthdays, work dinners, Easter etc.) that revolve around food. Once the spell is broken I eat my way back to where I’ve started. Recognising this, the mission is to make as good a job as I can in the direction of travel before Christmas and go into Christmas with enough time behind me to know I don’t want to wreck the good work done.

So far I’ve lost 1 stone/6.35kg since I started. I have another 2st 8lbs/16.5kg to go.

Please excuse the ramble - somehow felt the need to get that off my chest.

Good luck everyone in their continued efforts (however you achieve it) and keep going..!

Had a couple of weeks of hard work renovating the house but has also resulted in me not eating great due to finishing late. Hopefully the 2 even themselves out but worst case it's probably a 0.5-1kg increase.

It's weird how I can just know when I'm having a crap week; perhaps it's just that I'm more in tune with myself than at any point in my life so far and paying attention. I went into SW on Monday evening fully expecting a small gain and I was up 1lb, taking me to 20st 1.5lbs (127.7kg). I need to not let stress triggers cause me to slip into 'fk-it' mode.

PT session last night was pretty timely in that regard, I was reminded how much I do enjoy the training. Good results all round really; Cooper Run was up from 1310m to 1360m, plank up from 1m10s to 1m34s. Added barbell squat (96kg) and deadlift (130kg) to the tracking last night too so it'll be good to see how those improve.

Am going struggle to advance the Cooper Run on without breaking into a jog now - for the time being (and still at 20st) I don't want to put that sort of impact on my knees so I've historically stuck to non-impact stuff like the elliptical and rower. I'll chat with my PT about it next time.

I was holding the pads for a particularly heavy hitter last week and could feel my jowls vibrating with every punch. I need to get back into it seriously...

I logged my banana breakfast on myfitness pal for the first time since March this morning and all my 'most recent' foods were wholemeal musli, protein shakes, berries, Skyr yoghurt etc etc. All seems so alien to me now 6 months later!

Need to remind myself of the sweet sickly smell of opening the protein powder tub once more... hurl

Welcome onboard everyone. Checking in with random rambles is good for the soul and what this thread is good for thumbup

Sorry all, another lazy set of updates for me. Last week = good. This week = bad. Last week was another 1.5lbs off but this week has seen a whopping 4lbs on. I know why it is - I started properly training again last week - cardio on Tuesday, PT session Friday night (deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts, Sumo deadlifts & bentover row) and yesterday (bench press, incline dumbbell press, press-ups and pec flys) which has resulted in DOMS all over and the water retention that brings... Still a bit of a mental kicking seeing that jump in weight even though I know why it is.

I didn't stay for the Slimming World group tonight, just weighed and went - I don't think I really get that much from it any more and as I've mentioned previously I've had to look properly at macros and stuff as a result of the training which is somewhat the antithesis of what SW is all about. Perhaps it's served its purpose in my life and it's time to put diet fully in the hands of my PT - at the moment I'm pretty much just paying SW £5/wk to weigh myself and I can do that at home for free...

Anyway, weight today - 20st 4lbs or 128.8kg in new money. PT sessions Tuesday and Thursday evenings this week as well, looking forward to those. smile

Funk, that’s for the updates and the inspiration. You are a machine bud. Your output in the gym and the results is some next level stuff.

Looking at your massive cardio numbers i went back to the drawing board and I have settled on 1 day gym, 1 day rest cycles. I have have about a kilo left to lose to hut my pre-lockdown weight so i have now dropped about 6 kg in total.

I am now using a near-realtime heart rate % counter which has taken me up a level as it’s allowing me to spike my HR more efficiently.

I am also taking a carb gel prior to starting my workout, as well as my pre-workout powder.

Usually i am doing 2000kcal burns but today my body felt good and i pushed on to 2200kcal.

thanks for the updates and keep posting as it’s certainly helping my motivation to get back to where i was.

Keep up the great work folks, especially you Funk!

Down to 70KG now, doing a few HIIT sessions a week at home which incorporate some weights. Plan is to continue that for a few more months to shrink the gut a bit more and then start on weights. Need a bench with stands for a bar, Argos seem to be oos all the time and second hand prices are still silly.

I’ve been researching 5/3/1 and Starting Strength to work out which one to do once I have the gear

Update for my 1st post on 9/9/2020

I ended lockdown at 116kg
On 9/9/2020 I was 107kg

Between then and now I've kept up cycling (3 long rides / week) and gym (3 X 2h training sessions / week), but also spent a few days in Prague on the lash....

Anyway, bathroom scales this morning, which are usually +1kg than the gym showed me at 105kg, so another -2kg in 3 weeks (maybe -3kg depending on the gym scales).
