Currently have a Sebo X4 which to be honest has been great. It's starting to self power off a bit too often.

I would simply go and buy a direct replacement.... but..... since we bought the current one we have bought aq dog, so have dog hair (albeit not a lot)

What are peoples recommendations? And why

Could do worse than a Dyson V11 Absolute.

I had a DC something for 8 years with no issues, but Shark seem to be highly rated although personally I think they look a bit flimsy.

Henry also seem to get good reviews but they are only 600w now and the quality and suction has dipped, know someone that sells them and they told me they've got a skip full of broken returns.

Parts for Sebo are easily available. I’ve had to fix ours once in 15 years, it was easy to do, and still beats the new low wattage stuff.

After buying a Shark for the first time a few years ago, it would be my first choice next time. It's light, very versatile, easy to empty and could suck a golf ball through a hosepipe.

We had a cheap Shark for the last 5 years with no problems but it was not perfect on hard floors so we decided to upgrade to the Shark NZ801UKT duo clean corded vac.

Have to say it's bloody brilliant, my wife has long hair and my daughter has rediculously long hair so was constantly cutting it off the roller. This thing has some fancy anti hair wrap bits that actually work. And the duo clean head with the soft and standard roller works really well on hard floors and carpets.
The powered lift away is also good.

It could also suck the arse off a cat. So is not short of power.

Didn't think I could be so impressed by a vac but I was.

Sebo all day long.

having had 2 dyson's, I wouldn't go back to them. too frail, plasticky, brittle.

Shark, no question.
I bought one, my sister tried it, bought one, my mum tried hers, bought one...even my ex has had one after asking me about it!
Had mine for 3-4 years now. It hasn't let me down once or weakened on it's sucking duties. It's dead easy to unblock and clean the filters.
I live with three long haired women. The roller brush seems to collect all the hair in the middle of the roller in one piece which can easily be cut out.
I love it.

A tall swedish blonde one thatll work for a year or 2 and cost you half the house. The 2 years of good qaulity high standard hoovering will be worth it though.

Cheaper option would be a dyson. Iv got the v7, so I imagine the others are even better.

Over the years I have obtained several free Dysons. People tend to leave them in houses when they move, presumably because they don't like them.

Dyson was doing a deal something along the lines of "we'll refurbish your Dyson for £75". I had a couple basically jacked up and replaced, ergo a new Dyson for £75.

But even gratis I wouldn't want another and we have Mieles at home, even though I have had to pay for them.

Cant get better than a cordless dyson but everyone has a different opinion. Usually they are the best selling hoover for a reason.

Oddly enough we just bought a Shark having rejected a Dyson in part because to me it felt rather flimsey. There's no denying that the Dyson products is far lighter though.

Another vote for Shark. We have a duo clean lift off one, had it about 6 months and it's fantastic. I'm done with Dyson now as the Shark is in another league. Plus stairs etc are super easy with the lift off function.

Son has a Shark Cat and Dog. I have a Meile Blizzard CX1. Both are excellent vacuum cleaners.

The upright Shark is incredibly light and the way it comes apart for vacuuming stairs etc is brilliant. Seems to have excellent suction and the way it flattens to clean under sofas is quite brilliant.

The Meile is a beast. It has changeable suction, the top of which is so strong it lifts my very heavy lounge rug completely off the floor. Automatic cord return and little slots on the side to store the main wand. I've found cleaning it exceptionally easy because the plastic parts strip down, rinse in hot soapy water and dry overnight.
The only downside is its a cylinder vacuum, which isn't for everyone.

If I had to pick between the two I'd lean slightly toward the Meile because of the ease of cleaning it.

Shark here also.

Really great hoover, light powerful and easy to clean.
I love the front lights too, really highlights crumbs/dust on my hard floor.
