Sertraline - Wow!
Discussion
Well this morning's little white joy giver has me feeling a bit queazy and that's all so far. Oh, and a bit trembly.
I did a bit of reading and thought that 100mg was rather a lot to start, but I seem to be coping with it alright, The side effects seem to be easing up. No weird dreams or feeling a bit spaced today. Yesterday was proper weird. Every time I yawned it was like having a rush.
Slept well last night, got a solid seven hours.

I've just had two bacon and cheese turnovers (well it is Fat Friday) and don't feel much better yet. The queaziness is passing off I think. But the tremors are still there. Like I've had no sleep and too much caffeine.
I'm going to see how this pans out over the weekend and if I feel the same on Monday will ring the GP to see if they suggest dropping the dosage.

For me, crazy, elaborate, almost cinematic dreams. Bladerunner in scale. Not unpleasant, no nightmares or disturbing ‘narratives’ in the dreams just really intense!
Awesome aren't they. I'm on Citalopram for anxiety and it's the same. The detail in them is just incredible. Quite often have 'floaty' ones where I'm able to levitate about a foot off the ground, but still make progress.
I was on them. My doctor almost made me promise to continue with them for six weeks, but I felt a little benefit within two and by the fourth week I was feeling much better. I had a few problems with my stomach but they went by the fourth week. The other problem mentioned affected me, and quite dramatically, which was a problem. However, I discussed it with my doctor and the dosage was reduced, and then it went down to half. There was significant improvement in that aspect, without deterioration in the positive side.
Sleeping was a major problem for me before the pills. I used to have nightmares, really vivid ones. I felt I could remember them when I woke up. They were very violent. They all included me beating up a rapist I had dealt with, opening his face up to the bone. I sort of enjoyed them, which made it worse. The pills more or less cured them from week two. I slept for 8 hours at least. The relief was overwhelming.
The doctor told me, after the fourth week, that they don't work for everyone, and for those that it does, the dosage has to be worked out by experiment.
Being weaned off them was a bit of an effort, and went on for quite a time.

The tablet has a little line on it, this is a snap line. I found half a tablet a day (that’s half the min dose)was easily enough and it may help you to get used to them.
I have always taken in the morning
Be very careful with alcohol, it Varies but I found I would suddenly fall asleep and forget the last 1.5 hrs, you can lose a lot of inhibitions too.
I don’t drink anymore. Sertraline can make it easier to become addicted to other things.
It is a great drug though and I found 25mg was enough as a long term solution to depression.

Yeah I'm beginning to think 100mg is a bit of an overdose.
I have no experience of this type of drug, but the side effects are starting to distract from normal life. As in, if I was sitting at home it wouldn't be so much of a drama, but I'm getting distracted by them at work.
I haven't had any alcohol yet. The leaflet says avoid, the NHS says it's ok, but may cause drowsiness. Might crack open a Merlot in a bit and try a tentative glass.

Do you think 50mg is too low to actually be doing anything useful, and I'm just getting one hell of a placebo effect?
If it's working - great. All antidepressant trials show a significant placebo effect. If a trial didn't show a placebo effect you'd be suspicious about the design/execution of the trialFishlegs said:
On the subject of, erm, bedroom issues, it does take longer to get there, but my wife would probably say that's no bad thing in my case.
Commonly prescribed and effective for premature ejaculation. If you are on the long staying side of the spectrum SSRI can be a problem
They have helped me hugely with anxiety. I found myself worrying about worrying before, unable to address small problems without then seeking out the next thing to worry about. That’s all disappeared.
At first I felt very spaced out and detached but the side effects fell away. I have the bedroom delay issue on them but more significantly, I have no interest in sex at all on them which is actually quite liberating.
I’ve never been a significant drinker but now I have about one beer a month. Just doesn't interest me at all.
Personally, they have worked for me. I feel a serene level of calm but I’m conscious that this is a synthetic state of mind. At some point I’ll need to come off them. Not in a hurry though.
