"Long Common Cold" aka Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome - not really anything new tbh.
Yep!

I've had colds that lasted a couple of days to 3 weeks or even a month with weeks of felling shoite after.

Covid is another cold. I know people who had it bad, it put my 19 year old into hospital, yet my immuno suppressed ex wife said that the reaction from her jab was worse.

I had it and I'd put it between my easiest and bad colds. No way was it like one of my serious colds.

It will affect people differently as do all the other cold viruses.

I've had flu once, that was feckin awful. Made MY bout of Covid just a sniffle in comparison with a few paid days off work.

The real bad one for PVFS is Epstein Barr, aka Glandular Fever. Took me 18 months to get over my initial bout when I was 9 and then had a relapse at uni which took another 12 months to get over.

I tested positive for the first time last sunday after getting back from a business trip to Texas. I felt fine when I went to bed, but woke up with a 40c+ temperature. Odd symptoms, it changed daily with aches, sort throat, cough, headache, temperature, tiredness. Negative yesterday but I'll still got the cough.

Curious about something - I'm hearing of a number of friends, family and colleagues who have Covid, seems to be on the resurgence around here. One thing I've noticed is that everyone I've heard who has it now or very recently, this is their first time. Most have been fully vaccinated though.

Anyone else noticed the same? If that is a widespread trend then does that perhaps suggest that herd immunity may well be a thing?
No. I had it in Mar 20 and just had it again - although this time round it barely registered. I know of several others who've recently had it, and who had it over a year ago.

I won't be getting a booster until the new improved formula (tm) is released. If that means having to get a pcr done to fly, so be it.

Second time this year I've had nailed on symptoms and felt exactly like I did the first time I had it back in June 2021. Persistent cough, temperature fluctuations, sore throat, drowsiness, headaches.. yet I'm negative.

It's either a massive coincidence or.. these tests now don't work?

Happened to a girl at work, all the symptoms but negative test. So she kept testing for a few days and eventually came back positive.

My update, insurance look to be paying for us to stay until Sunday.

I came down coldy when about to start a job. Tested negative so carried on and just kept away from others, no shaking hands or hugs despite having not seen them all for over 2 years.

4 days in, still felt rotten yet still negative. Wasn't until I got home on the 5th and final day of the job did I test positive.

I've heard that's how Omicron is more transmissible. By the time you test positive you've mixed with so many people.

It's how a virus gets successful.

No good killing the host as the dead can't spread, same for the bedridden.

A milder disease becomes top dog.

As far as I'm aware I've not had Covid (yet?) I'm part of the ONS Covid Survey, so was getting tested weekly, now monthly. I've had my lab swab result back 'negative for current infection' this week again. Waiting the result for my antibody blood test now. Last time my wife was graded as 'High' antibodies, but my result was 'Test Result Not Determined' so this time I'm hoping for a result even if it's negative for antibodies. I'm double jabbed but haven't felt the need for a booster so far. I think I'll wait until the ONS say my antibody levels are low before getting one. That way I'll know if it was the booster what raised the levels if they rise.

I've got to say I've not noticed any increase in infections within my friends and family groups. But then again, if the latest variants are those with mild symptoms, people might not realise they've got it. Especially as the Pollen Count has been high this year so sneezing, streaming eyes, runny noses, etc might well be dismissed more readily as "just hayfever" than would have been the case at pandemic peak panic...

Yeah, funny you should say that Niall. I managed to get whilst away at the Barcelona F1, first time. Then my wife got, first time. Then a bunch of her colleagues got it, first time - including one family whose kids had it some months ago, but the parents didn’t. All fully jabbed up, including my wife who has had 5 vaccinations. Although her symptoms were pretty mild.

However none of the others on my trip managed to come down with Covid (I must be special), including a close contact with whom I flew with, shared taxis with, etc.

I had covid in late Nov 2021.

Lost taste and smell for a week.
Then another few weeks for smell to return.
But my sense of smell is still not what it was.

For most foods and smells this hasn’t made much of a change.

But it feels to me like my far end savoury smell is off… at least that’s how it seems.

Maybe I just need to go eat and sniff lots of various foods etc to recalibrate?

Or could this be permanent?

I'll second that one, it floored me for a couple of months when I was about 23 and I felt on my knees for about another year afterwards. Once I did get better I had a couple of smaller relapses over the next few years. Evil bug.

Dec 2020, still can't smell spirits, and only just smell petrol, bleach, carb cleaner and that sort of smell. Occasionally sense of taste goes away

Yes, work night out last week now quite a few have it - but it does seem to be those who haven't knowingly had it before, and they all seem to be suffering quite badly too compared to people like me who had it in the last peak (March)

I definitely think there is something in that - everyone I know who has had it before has not been as badly affected 2nd time round. I assume this is a combination of things - vaccine / t&b cell memory from previous infection / weaker variant (not hitting the lungs). Hope this trend continues.

Well it had to happen. Dodged it for 2 years despite sharing a car at work with different people every shift.

At a lunch with a few cousins last Sunday. Of 9 people 6 are now positive.

Im double vacced and boosted. Symptoms like a cold along with extremely mild flu symptoms. Nowhere near a proper flu which I have had twice where I was bedbound for 3 days.

I was positive before symptoms. At that point my manager was wanting me to go to work. Changed his mind when I asked if he thought colleages would be happy sharing a car with a confirmed positive Covid case.

First time since march 2020 I've felt poorly from yesterday. Came on really quickly, from fine in the morning to terrible aches, headache, dry cough, overheating and oddly a raging hunger by lunchtime. Spend 24 hours in bed.
Feel a lot better now but taste has gone as has the desire to eat.
I expect I picked up something from being in the office on Tuesday.

No jibjabs.
I haven't tested as if you feel ill, you are probably ill.

Just tested positive.

As far as I know haven’t had it before.

Felt achy on Thursday which I dismissed as overdoing it earlier at the swimming pool.

Had the “full monty” of symptoms Friday - headache, sore throat, cough, aches, fatigue.

I had flu as a teenager and it’s nowhere near as bad as that but still pretty unpleasant. Hope I can shake it off and don’t get lumbered with long covid…

I don't know your situation, but if you can take it really easy. I basically had a week on the sofa watching Netflix. Felt better by the end of the week but didn't do any exercise (swimming or running) for another 7 days just to be safe. Was fine after that.

Thank you - yes I will. The sun is shining and it’s very tempting to try and go for a walk but I’m trying to “listen to my body” and just stay on the sofa.

My partner has long covid and I really don’t want that. At least I can listen to Glastonbury and catch up with some reading,,,

Anyone else had what might be the new B.4 or B.5 variant? Not many other symptoms other than extreme tiredness for a few days, plus bit achey/headachey but mostly just was sooooo tired.

A few of us have had it at work and home now. Doesn’t seem to show up positive on tests (maybe tried too early) but can’t see it’s anything else.

Be interested if anyone else had same.
