You actually eat 5-8 packs of crisps a day? Amazing. How's that low carb though?
I mean the rest of my carb intake is low.Take today's lunch. 2 packets of crisps, a scotch egg and a Cadbury's miniroll. Not that much carbs in it. I mean, I could eat a massive wad of pasta which is what many would go for, perhaps.
For dinner, 2 packets of crisps and a bowl of "wet noodles" (60g packet) with a couple of handfuls of greens and chicken breast.
Second dinner is more of a snack - 2 packets of crisps, some chicken breast, 2 apples and a miniroll.
I could eat fewer crisps I suppose but this is about binning the pot belly not being healthy.
Edit: looks like I eat ~100g of carbs a day in crisps. My protein intake is about the same.

It really is that simple
But
Hunger and self control doesn't get mentioned enough
If you've never tried a keto diet or real low carb - which is less than 30g a day - you should give it a go
The first thing you'll learn is how carbs affect you
The best way to do this is to stop eating them
You'll feel a crash for a few days and then energised
I'm not suggesting this is good or healthy but an interesting experiment
You'll find your hunger drops and therefore self control gets a lot easier
This is why keto can be successful for some especially if you're new to the game
My constant battle is calorie restriction and caffeine both stop me sleeping so if I do both I'm on PH at 3am....

I keep reading this but what on earth can you replace carbs with- they're everywhere! The best way to do this is to stop eating them
I have a tiny bit of cereal and almond milk in the morning, followed by a couple of slices of bread. Hardly a huge breakfast.
Lunch (certainly since lockdown) tends to be pasta, or perhaps involve some form of mash potato, possibly small amount of oven fries with fish and veg.
And then again at night could be rice with chicken and green, with a small amount of sauce (could just be tomato). I don't like creamy high calorie sauces.
Desserts could be fruit, or a 40 kcal plain biscuit, or greek yoghurt with fruit. But again a small amount!
I don't move much but always make sure I have a 45 minute to an hour walk a day.
Can't get rid of my small belly!
It is possible to just not eat carbs - I regularly do this, and rarely have any carbs with my evening meal, usually just meat and veg. Also fast for at least 12 hours every day - have been doing this for about 6-7 years now. And I try to do some form of aerobic exercise every morning - bike ride, walk, jog - even if it means having to get up at 4.30 as I've also got a full-time job and three kids....
As for foods, I find nuts help me a lot, and usually snack on them at work, or eat with natural yoghurt and fruit at home. I don't worry about the fat content of any foods in their natural state, but go to great lengths to avoid sugar where I can. I occasionally go a day without food too - I don't need the calories.

Eating no cards - or super low - is difficult. But it's a food experiment like I said.
I've not done it for years. It does take discipline and planning. Which any change in regime needs plenty of.
Nowadays I am eating a purely plant based diet and I really like it. No junk at all. Just vegetables. If I want to restrict calories I fast.
It's funny that years ago they said not eating was bad. Now it has a new name and its good.
I dont want to get on my soap box about plant based. I will just say this - when you think about the chemicals and medicines and hormones and whatever else that is in mass produced cheaper meat it can kind of makes you think yuk. I switched after watching game changers in 2019 and thought I'd try it for a few weeks. I suddenly felt great. That's why I changed. I felt better. I was telling a veggie type this around week 2 and she said it takes your body about 3 or 4 weeks to detox from all the chemicals and whatever else you've been consuming. Light bulb moment.
Prior to that I was always thinking about protein protein protein which is what we are programmed to think by all the media and a few posters here. I've been weight training since I was 18 and I've never been big so I can't imagine becoming big at my age so I'm beginning to think is all this protein protein protein really necessary. Now I just eat unmolested unaltered simple vegetables. Sure I cheat occasionally but so what. Its not a religion.

Edit: I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I'm making my intake and exercise work for my lifestyle. If I had to become a vegan cyclist to lose weight, I'll resign myself to being overweight...
Indeed. This is what makes any exercise or health improvements work. You have to find sports or activities and balance with your diet etc that you’ll enjoy and actually be able to stick to. It has to become a normal part of your life, like brushing your teeth. There’s no point in adopting some fad diet or mad exercise regime if it’s not going to be sustainable long term.
This is why these threads are often problematic, we all tell the op what works for us but that’s always hugely personal and based on our own circumstances.
I guess if there’s enough suggestions and variety of ideas, the op might see something that they can relate to or get in to or learn to live with though?

It's really not difficult if you really want to do it - but you do need to follow Keto diet principles.I have a tiny bit of cereal and almond milk in the morning, followed by a couple of slices of bread. Hardly a huge breakfast.

No bread, no potatoes, no pasta, no rice. No root vegetables. No milk.
I have a cup of coffee with double cream in the morning. Not hungry, so no breakfast.
Then it's a 5 mile walk.
Lunch @1pm is something quite light - e.g. Tomato, Mozzarella & Avocado salad (lots of olive oil)
Dinner @6pm is meat + veg + creamy / cheesy sauce - e.g. steak + spinach with blue cheese & creme fraiche stirred through and a couple of grilled tomatoes.
Once your body has adjusted to the lack of carbs (and higher fat intake) your appetite reduces considerably. I suspect that mine is helped by the fact that I have so much excess body fat to also burn.
I've been on the Keto diet for 6 weeks, lost over 12Kg and I haven't been hungry once.

Coconut oil?
From here: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/can-coconut-o...
"However, some research suggests that coconut oil may decrease belly fat. A 4-week study in 20 adults with obesity observed that taking 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of this oil daily significantly reduced waist circumference in male participants (18Trusted Source)."
Not sure how reliable that is.
Oil is the most calorie dense food you can eat on this planet. From here: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/can-coconut-o...

So regardless of where that oil is coming from, adding the the equivalent calories of a Mars bar in oil a day to your diet probably isn’t going to help you lose fat. It’s just going to add an additional 10% of your daily recommmended calories, and most likely increase your weight.
It’s very simple. If you want to lower your body fat percentage to lose belly fat, be in a calorie deficit, which means eat less and move more.

Keto is the way to go imho.
I've tried loads of diets over the years. Nothing worked as I just compensated by gorging in other areas. However recently I had to adjust my diet before a blood test, in order to rule diet out as a cause for a more serious thing.
I basically had to quit sugar, red meat and wheat. Sugar is added to pretty much everything, so you have to cook yourself from scratch. And wheat rules out bread rice pasta. Way more hardcore than I've ever done before.
You can guess what happened in just 2 weeks!

I dont drink alcohol, no sugary drinks, no fast food (McD, Pret etc), no processed food or ready made meals.
The rest of my body is fine (except chin area).
The stupid pot belly makes me suck in my stomach which in turn leads to a cramped/hunched shoulder posture which in turn...
What am I doing wrong, what should I be doing?

Simples.
You have two choices, move more and so burn more calories, or eat less.
Don't fall for all the 'alcohol, sugary drinks, fast food etc = bad calories, avocado = good calories' stuff.
Of course there is a difference between good food and bad food, but fundamentally, calories are calories.
