People before covid caught respiratory illnesses, people during CV catch respiratory illnesses and people post CV19 will catch respiratory illnesses.

Well recently Borris did say that he expects Flu to return this Winter. Nice that its had a couple years off on holiday LOL
Could that be down to the fact that everyone has been stuck at home?

My employer (cruise line) is insisting I get a flu jab but it appears there aren't any until September.

Had a bloke, pointing my gable wall, the last 2 weeks.
I have learnt much about him.
54, spent 10 years in prison or Bostal from age 15 to 35. Chain.smoker. lives in a dodgy area. Knows people. That are dodgy. Keeps away from.that sort of thing. Has a big dog. Has been married 25 years. Prefers cash. Or Bacs is fine if you must.
Struggles with the concept of social distancing.
Hasn't been vacinnated. Because he can't be bothered. His wife and 2 sons have been vaccinated though.
Wants first refusal.when I come to sell my 3.2 mV6 omega.
So very stupid. Charged me a fk load of money, but did a great job. So perhaps not so stupid.
I told him, I took the advice of my daughter, a Hospital Pharmacist, who told me I was an idiot, if I didn't get vaccinated.
Got to talking about how to bring up kids. We have similar views on that. His youngest starts work on the docks in 3 weeks time.

Not the only one to think "Had a bloke, pointing my gable wall, the last 2 weeks" was a euphemism then.

It’s all about risk. We know what the virus does but where in your plan is reducing future risk? Or are you going to be part of a group that considers themselves detached from the issues over the last year, effectively as observers only and put-upon by a problem that ‘only affects others’?
All it takes is a future variant propagated by inaction now that affects younger people more - and you may get a rude awakening.
This one post sums up your illogical position. "We must take action now to defend against a highly unlikely future scenario, just in case".

And I am effectively an observer only, observing a problem that only affects others, except those others have now been protected by a very effective vaccine. If you know about risk management then you'll know that the risk to younger people is utterly miniscule.
The personal risk to you of the having the vaccine is lower than the risk of not having it. Not having it also increases the risk to others, and increases the risk of prolonging the pandemic here with another wave and future lockdowns.

Not having the vaccine also puts you at high risk of having to take days/weeks off work feeling like ste.

Risk management it may be, although it’s more like common sense.
Most of that just isn't true though is it? The risk to me from Covid is low enough to be totally irrelevant, as it has been throughout. The risk to older vaccinated people from me not having the vaccine is low enough to be totally irrelevant, as they already have very good protection. It's not a very good vaccine if it requires the user to avoid coming into contact with the virus at all costs. A placebo would've done the same job.

It's also a bit rich calling any of the younger people selfish, regardless of their vaccine decisions. This entire thing has presented almost zero risk to them yet they are the ones who have given up the most, and will be the ones who will pay the monumental cost. Selfish is expecting them to do that.

Excess deaths are at record lows. The pandemic is over here. There is no 'prolonging the pandemic'.

And once again you seem to have little faith in the vaccine and are expecting another wave, despite pretty much everyone susceptible to this virus being vaccinated. Case numbers don't matter if nobody is harmed. You clearly think this is incredibly deadly and everyone is going to be dehabilitated by long Covid. I think otherwise. Have you even looked at any data regarding deaths/hospitalisations broken down by age group over the past year? There is effectively now almost nobody at risk.

Constantly testing to find 'cases' and variants so we can have a knee jerk reaction is like building yourself a prison to live in.

I said months ago that it was a masterstroke of the government to market the restrictions as 'protecting others', because people are happy to face a little risk themselves, but it becomes a game of virtue signalling top trumps when it's about others.

Anyway, I'll leave it there. You've said nothing remotely convincing to change my mind and I'm sure the feeling is mutual.
Bang on!

I still haven’t heard a good motive for why the government would want lockdown to continue for as long as possible. There’s vague suggestions they just like removing civil liberties, but to what end? Or that lockdown helps billionaires, but not the hotel, transport or oil ones presumably, or even that doing so would benefit the government.

Genuinely curious as seems to me lockdown is hugely challenging for a government to do, and therefore only used whilst no feasible alternative to killing thousands and overwhelming the NHS. Enlighten me.

It isn’t really. We all have treatment against polio, tetanus, mmr despite there being little to zero risk. Are you both going to rail on about those in the basis that you won’t ever go near a river or a rusty nail ?
The vax is a complete no brainer I think it’s only an issue to the Professionally Put-Upon.

Patronising.

I’ve had my vax / I not an anti vaxxer.

I’m married to a consultant who specialises in drug development whose been involved in several Covid trials. I have some understanding.

It’s the gvts ‘strategy’ (for want of a better description) that is utterly mindless, has bred nothing but fear, panic, confusion and defies logic.
