I don’t think the maths point helps much. My risk of dying from Covid is zero. It wouldn’t even register. So the vaccine is much riskier. I’m still having it, but it’s not based on relative risk.
It’s not zero.

I had covid a few months back, I don’t see the point in getting the vaccine.

Yes. It is. Find me a healthy 38 year old who has had mild Covid then contracted it again and died.
Zero.

That doesn’t make the risk zero.

One in billions. I call that zero.

I'm surprised that there's so much debate over this. For me, the decision not to have the vaccine was very simple:

Am I someone who is vulnerable/has a health condition/in an age bracket that puts me at risk?

Answer: No

Accounting for the answer above, should I have the vaccine?

Answer: No

That's it, it's very simple. No further debate required. If you are vulnerable/old/have a health conditions then yes, get the vaccine.

At risk of what?

At risk of succumbing to whatever the vaccination is supposed to be protecting me against...

What do you mean by succumbing?

Getting ill to the point that I'd be hospitalised/couldn't cope on my own.

Its looking more and more likely that you won't need to quarantine and can visit orange countries with 2 vaccinations. I truly hope it goes ahead so people who refuse the jag don't get the benefits others can have by trying there hardest to end this.

The travel aspect is just an excuse used by people who don't want to admit that they can't make their own decisions/calculate their own risks.

Similar to men who say stuff like: "yeah, I'd love to ride a motorbike but the Mrs won't let me...". Translates to: you don't have the balls!

Ok. I set a lower bar. Getting a viral infection is no joke and can easily wipe you out for a week or two. A jab to avoid that possibility seems like a good trade off to me.

If I could have taken a jab to avoid the illness and recovery period I experienced last year with glandular fever I absolutely would have done, even though I was at extremely low risk of being hospitalised and my crappy experience will never appear on official statistics.

For me it’s a no. 42 male.

I tested positive for covid in January. I was ill but I have been worse with other illnesses in the past. My gf who lives with me didn’t catch it from me although we obviously live in close contact.

Looking at the NHS gov statistics, once you take out those with pre existing conditions, the number of deaths is very small and it wasn’t that big a percentage before they were removed so I don’t buy that I’m at more of a chance of dying if I don’t have a vaccine.

Yes I know they say there’s less chance of passing it on, but to be fair I wouldn’t believe much they say now.

If the vaccine had been long term tested and was out of the testing phase I might think about it just to cut down the chance of passing it on but the government and their scientists have lost my trust a long time ago. It’s time to go back to normality and just live with it until it’s just a memory like lots of other things.

"I want to be afraid too.
I've taken this experimental drug , if it goes tits up I need you to suffer like me."

It's not a compelling argument for people whose age/health group have barely been touched by the unknown origin virus. Hell it's even worse for ubermench like me who didn't even know they had it until sent for a test. Especially when the common side effects seem so much worse than the unknown origin virus.
