I'm looking for a new daily and I think I've narrowed my choice down to these two cars. I'm looking at petrol auto variants only and I believe both marques offer 3.0 options.

I'm really just looking for any experience from owners of either. My preference is for the Jag - a much nicer looking interior which is more often available on lighter colours (a must! I hate black interiors).

I'm looking at cars with less than 80,000 miles around 11/12 reg. Both marques seem to suffer reasonably bad interior wear for the miles from photos - driver's seats often look baggy. I'm assuming a great many of these vehicles have seen mileage correction every year?

Are there any inherant issues with either mechanically?

Unsure on the Jag, not my thing but a 11/12 5 series would be the F10 type.

Petrol 3L means the N53 engine or the N55 if you want to look at the 535i models

We had an F10 523i which is a detuned N53. Only ‘common’ issues I was aware of is the injectors/plugs/coils which can go. Coils and plugs are not too much but injectors can be £200 ish each and with six of them plus coding could be £1500 so be worth checking if they have been done already.

Other than that, they are fairly decent engines.

Ours had 70k on the clock and we had no issues with the interior, it looked almost new still. Leather was certainly not ‘Baggy’ at all.

The XF would be my pick they ride better, the supercharged V6 is a peach & the interiors wear well (if it's not I'd want to know why) on both this & the 5 Series.

XF Portfolio spec is the pick

They lose out to the BMW on the infotainment it's not that it's bad but the BMW's is better but adding this unit which integrates Android Auto & Apple Carplay into it solves a lot of the complaints.

Q70 35h with a 0-60 in the low 5's these & the Lexus are not to be sniffed at:

I have had a 2010 528i (N53 engine) for the past four years. I think that the 3.0 litre models after 2011 have 4 cylinder turbo engines. Echoing other comments, injectors are known to be a problem area and some people have reported corrosion around the rear doors on older models. I have found mine utterly reliable, comfortable and capable of devouring miles effortlessly.

The interior is dull (a BMW trait) but well thought out ergonomically. I see very few signs of wear, and a car upholsterer can easily fix a baggy driver’s seat. If you don’t get one with Satnav etc, you can get a 10” Android plug and play unit (www.droiduk.com) that allows you to stream music, navigate etc. Service intervals are around every two years and a big service (oil, filters, plugs, brake fluid) comes to around £350 at a good indy. The forums are full of people who have ditched runflats and reported an improvement in ride quality. I haven’t, as mine rides on 18” wheels and feels comfortable enough.
