I'm not, thankfully, seriously affected by hay fever; some years are worse than others though - I use Sterimar the nasal jet wash followed top by a couple of squirts of beconase up each nostril, seems to do the job for me ok - it also helps with my dog hair allergy but that only happens at melting time and depends on type of dog

Terfenadine caused electrical issues with the heart of taken with grapefruit juice a lot more severe than anything with fexofenadineWell I've just told my OH. She has skin conditions and regularly takes fexofenadine. She also has Right Bundle Branch Block in the heart. Luckily she only takes local honey and lemon and none of the above juices.

Ah, I have been smearing Vaseline but only on the outside. Never thought of smearing inside, but might give it a go for some relief.
Been feeling bit tired every morning as hadn't had a good kip.
I am currently still on cetirizine, and the effects wear off at night. As it's "one a day" I sometimes top up at night with kids dosage of Piriton syrup.
Continuous use of smearing of Vaseline IN the nose can be dangerous, always smear under the nose and eyesBeen feeling bit tired every morning as hadn't had a good kip.

I didn't know that!

I started struggling with hay fever since i was very little (along with Asthma) my parents swore blind on giving me New Era Mineral H tablets. In my experience you could swallow a tube of the dam things and get no relief but as they were “natural” my parents persisted until i reached an age to choose for myself - I’m sure they help some. The over the counter ones seemed to help more than New Era thankfully but never took he problem away as much as id like. Later on i started using Mackenzies Smelling Salts for migraines and although the results were mixed for that problem I’ve not suffered with hay fever as badly for some reason (in some cases not at all). Not sure why this happened but I’m not complaining.
I’m sure someone can explain the reason or shout at me for what I’ve said, but thats my experience.

I remember it being developed in Vienna, so I guess this is it, but only 25% effective against grass pollen: https://www.meduniwien.ac.at/web/en/about-us/news/...
On average, there was a 25% improvement in symptoms. "The more severely the allergy sufferer is affected by grass pollen, the greater the beneficial effect following vaccination," explains Verena Niederberger-Leppin
I think there's another vaccine which has to be administered over 3 years....

Benacort - found it a couple of years ago and it stops my hayfever within 24-48 hours, and if used daily it won't return.
Ultimately its just a case of finding which product works for you, as they all contain different active ingredients, but for me it was grass pollen causing it, and Benacort fixing it.
I had prescriptions from the doctor for Fexofenadine and it didn't even scratch the surface. It got so bad that at one point a few years ago I genuinely thought a trip to A&E was going to be needed due to breathing difficulties in the night.

Since I was about 12 Heyfever would knock me out of action for about a month starting in early June. Swollen eyes, blocked nose, headache and a total inability to think or generally function.
A few years ago I was prescribed Fexofenadine and Becodefence nasal spray and it's not an exaggeration to say the effects were life changing.
Anyone who hasn't tried fexofenadine should give it ago (check with your doctor first etc.) as no other prescription pill every touched the side for me.
Becodefence is one to try. It works more like the Vaseline trick mentioned above by creating a gel lining in your nostril after the spray.
I carry a bottle with me and whenever I feel an attack come on a quick spray will settle it right down.
Edit to add: Becodefence is advertised for 12+ so definitely speak to a doctor before buying for your son.

To the OP, sorry for thread hijack but posting here as there are lots of helpful replies.
Still on cetirizine which gets me through the day. I take this in the morning and it takes about 30 mins or so for it to kick in.
However the blocked nose during night time is keeping me awake.
I wake up feeling tired and also feeling a bit dazed. Not sure if it’s lack of proper sleep or effect of taking cetirizine daily?
I sometimes have a beer or two in the evening, is this a bad idea?
Thinking of trying fexofanadine but not sure if it will have worse side effects for me.

I'm completely unaffected today, which is nice!
Not changed pills or anything either. Hopefully it was just a particular type of pollen that was doing me in.
Back to normal yesterday and last night. Not changed pills or anything either. Hopefully it was just a particular type of pollen that was doing me in.
I've never really suffered at night before, but I'm getting an itchy feeling on the roof of my mouth often at the moment. Not helping my sleeping which isn't great at the best of times.
Must be some potent pollen flying around at the moment.
