Very little discomfort with mine (done February 2020). My GP referred me to a private clinic anyway, the first injection stings for a second but then fine afterwards.

Tight pants definitely which is a bit odd if you aren't used to them. No pain afterwards, did have the occasional paracetamol as I was advised to do, but no ongoing effects whatsoever.

No real pain with mine (done in 2003), just a little uncomfortable. Agree with the tight undies to stop the swinging around for a while.

I had to do two samples after 8 and 12 weeks iirc to get the all clear.

20yrs post snip no real difference in output, OH says it had more substance before the op and has used the saying it looks like spud water on the rare occasions she’s seen it!!

I had a SSR procedure in 2017 and that was a lot worse pain wise than the snip

Some pain, but more like tugging the pipes.

I had 4 student Nurses watching, and to top that one of the nurse assisting the doctor was my wife's friend! She became a frequent visitor after that, however not for what you dirty minded gits think, but to take the piss along with my wife [not size I may add but just for fun]

You poor git. Was it yours? Twenty minutes on the doctor's table could have spared you this.

No real pain, took a couple of pain killers when I came out, Father in Law drove me home smirking (tt). I was back running about 7 days after, no issues, just wore tight shreddies to limit movement.

I have read through the various vasectomy threads on here in search of clear guidance on getting neutered, and I take note that I will need to wear super-tight undies, sit on a bag of ice and not ride my unicycle back from the appointment, no matter how "fine" I feel. It

My other takeaway is that PH needs a league table of how quickly one might be able to "flush out the pipes". I know you need your certificate for the "all clear".

Some of the questions that I could not find proper answers to are:

- Does a vasectomy have any long-term side effects? I mean... the swimmers have to go somewhere, right?

- Can you get insurance? Not to insure that the procedure "works", but if for some reason I end up with another child, (Twins last time) I'm going to need to get my sad face on for some compensation. those little rascals really take it out of you!

- What are the real statistics on long-term pain and problems with the procedure? There are massive variations in the statistics and reports I can find. Is there any reliable research on this?

- What if you happen to have varicoceles (Varicose veins in the left nut) and don't fancy getting your sack spliced twice? Can you make like a bowl of spaghetti and have them all pulled out in one swift manoeuvre? A cursory google suggests yes, but I can't find a UK site talking about it. Does anyone have first-hand experience in combining the operations?

- Is it worth going private? I suspect the service will be quicker and I'm not worried about the cost, but is it as well regulated? I'm just a little worried about turning up to see DR Zoidberg waiting for me.
No issues here either, I went NHS, worst bit was the surgeon trying to find the right tube but even that was discomfort rather than pain.

I had mine done at Borough Green which I can recommend, depending where in the south east you are.

Had it done 30 odd years ago with no problems apart from achey plums for a couple of days .
Many that have immediate problems usually haven't followed instructions to look after the operation site .
My only slight regret was I got divorced within 2 years and later narrowed the field for prospective partners who might have wanted children.

Had mine done on the NHS not a problem.

Took the total of a queen and Abba song that the doctor had on the radio to complete and didn't have stiches. Take the advice you are given and you will be fine, tight undies as mentioned for a while and I was fine, went for a walk after mine and some discomfort the next day but nothing major.

All good two days alter

Nope

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/319246488...

Vasectomy doesn't cause cancer or raised heart disease.

There was a flurry of scientific concern in the early 1980s if you look at pubmed, but it's all debunked now

This is a very good page:

https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/vasect...

The Mayo Clinic is generally trustworthy and altruistic

A bit of classic banter on the day of my op !
I was called at short notice for my op and didn't receive any of the pre-op instructions. Got on the table and placed in the stirrups and the nurse declared ' you haven't shaved ' yes I have I replied rubbing my chin !
I then had to endure a very young nurse shave the plums with cold water and a very blunt Bic plastic razor .
The follow up sperm counts were fairly funny . I lived within a mile of the hospital and the routine was to knock one at home then drop it off at the drop off hatch at the lab ,this time the female lab tech picked up the pot as soon as I placed it ,her shocked exclamation of bloody hell it's still warm ! made me laugh out loud .

Not available on NHS where I am (or wasn’t a few years ago when I had it done). As it happens it was my GP that did it, as private work. Cost about £300. Absolutely no problems at all, can’t even remember any particular discomfort.

I too would be interested in private costs and any recommendations down in the south west.

Asked my gp to "get the ball rolling", pun fully intended!, back in August but have heard nothing since. Can only assume snips are way down the NHS priority lists, which is understandable.

I’ve literally just got back from having the procedure at a local health centre, observations:

- I was worried sick about what the visit would have in store for me but I shouldn’t have worried.

- I had a stitchless head treated procedure

- injections in the nuts weren’t that bad

- was in and out in 20 mins, no pain, I’d say going to a dentist for simple scale and polish is worse.

- was little weird having some unknown bloke and woman fondling my plumbs but hey ho. We talked about holidays etc, very hair dresses visit level stuff.

- from speaking to GP for a referral to today was about 3 months, Was done via NHS.

- positives; I’ve got a day off work smile

All in all it was very straight forward, guys shouldn’t worry about it.

Sounds like the build up in your mind is much worse than the procedure. I've been toying with becoming a non baby maker, the only thing that worries me is loss of sex drive and Mr happy not being quite as forthcomingly happy and pleased with himself as before.

Anyone noticed any change to your arousal levels or Mr happy performance?

The only difference between NHS and private seems to be the wait times; I got my GP to refer me back in August '22 and I'm still waiting for an appointment - was told to expect 6-18 months wait though! Enquired with a private place the the other week and was told its about a 3 week wait and £350 for the procedure with two follow ups to check for swimmers at £30 a pop.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the swelling and soreness, nor the potential for random ball pain - but due to the Mrs' health its the only way that I am going to continue to get any sexy fun times since another baby would bankrupt me and potential kill her off.

Had mine done on the NHS albeit 27 years ago.I don't know if it is still the same but back then they had a limited budget for these but i got my request in right at the beginning of the financial year so only had to wait a few weeks.I think it took about 2 months to get the all clear.I have heard stories ranging from my own incident free experience talking to the nurse during the op although they did have trouble locating one of the tubes and nearly had to go to London for it(mine was done in a doctors surgery in Tunbridge Wells)to being bruised black and blue.No side effects but yes i did have to wear speedos for a couple of weeks and no heavy lifting.
