Nothing wrong with burgers at home. As someone who's been on it for a year it tapers off on day 6-7. I find that the dose days a day to kick in. I find if you eat like crap on day 1-2 after the jab (or on when moving up on a dose) you will not enjoy it. on those earlier days i tend to eat easier digesting foods.

I'm at a situation where i think i want to titrating down. my scales have barely changed in the past 2-3 months as I come closer to a normal weight. Whilst I hate the lack of change on the scales I have noticed that the amount my hands hand grab around my belly has been going down. the normal spots where I inject around my stomach are less flabby/fatty. however on the other end its very noticable sat in a chair, or later in the evening compared to in the morning.

I still don't know whether to stay on MJ and tirtirate down, or switch over to wegovy as it'll be cheaper long term.

After a bit of a plateau, the weight's started dropping again. I stuck at 7.5mg and have lost another 5kg in the last 3 weeks taking me to a total of 40.2kg (just over 6st in old money) and 22% of my starting weight gone.

Despite still being a hefty 143kg there's no hiding that sort of loss and people are commenting on a nice way. It's a real boost.

Moved house a couple of weeks ago so still in the chaos of that but will be joining a local gym soon to get the fitness back on track and start working on retaining (and building) muscle but mainly cardio, general health and also flexibility/mobility which I know have suffered. There's also the positive psychological benefits too.

My goal is to get sub-100kg initially and work out where I want to get to from there.

On week 4 of the 10mg Mounjaro, I've gone up monthly in 2.5mg steps. After probably 6 weeks stuck on a weight plateau and with a decent daily calorie deficit, my body seems to have finally realised there's something going on and dropped another 3kg very rapidly. Not sure that's a good thing it having done it so quickly. On the 10mg dose eating is a real struggle - zero appetite, and feeling full after even small quantities of food. Trying to keep my fluid intake up.

Met a friend for walk and coffee yesterday, she works in healthcare and conversation eventually turned to general health and weight loss. She is very concerned about these jabs, other than for clinically bariatric patients whose health is in dire straits because of their size. She doesn't believe 'normal' people like me should be using extreme measures to rapidly drop weight. Sadly I've been overweight for decades, tried lots of other methods with very limited success, and this genuinely seems to be working - 15kg down in 16 weeks is maybe too fast, but I'm happy to not be the fattest guy in a room now. She did suggest we go for dinner in a fancy restaurant, I ordered a Cesar Salad, and it arrived in a huge bowl - could only manage half of it. Think that worried her, how a big guy like me could only eat a tiny portion of salad and be full.

No real side effects to speak of so far, even up to the 10mg dose. A little skin irritation around the injection site the next day, and occasionally wake up with a headache the morning after taking the jab. I'm aware that this can't be forever, at some point I need to work out what I want to do - titrate down, sit on a maintenance dose, come off it completely - and what a 'normal' diet and lifestyle looks like after that. I'm really boring when it comes to food - genuinely if someone said "here's a 1500 calorie pill that contains a completely balanced diet" I'd take one every day.

i wouldn't worry what your friend thinks as i suspect they haven't read anything about it and are no more clued up than the average person on the street.

RS, preloading an app like cronometer with your daily meals and sticking to it really helped me. I knew what I was eating and when and it really helped me connect with my body and what different foods do to it. Also, drinking litres and litres of water helped. Its no fun being at the toilet night and day but you get used to it...make sure and get the steps in also. I've dropped from 21.4 to 14.4 in 11 months, only moved to 10mg last pen and thinking about planning an exit strategy from the med...I'm hungry ALL the time but don't think about food itself much, which sounds strange. Mrs is like you, totally shut down and is still losing weight. Take it easy man, you were good enough to offer me advice and help in the past, if you need any drop me a pm...

....think it was you, Perthshire?
Mr GBN, greetings to you my dear fellow. I'm in central Fifeshire but work in Perthshire & the north east, so it may well have been me smile

Fantastic progress you're making there - 7 stone in 11 months is amazing. In old money I'm 21.1 down to 18.10, so 2.5 in 4 months, a comparable rate of loss. I'd be extraordinarily delighted if I made it into the 14st region - haven't been that weight since my mid-20s. 45 this year so I'd like to get healthy for the sake of long term quality of life. Be most interested to hear about your journey from here onwards - do you think you'll reduce and sit on a maintenance dose, or come off completely? A colleague dropped from 10mg to zero very quickly, but because his diet and lifestyle are a bit rubbish, he's gained back virtually all of the 5st he'd lost. My challenge will be, as you alluded to on another post, avoiding the drink & associated grazing that goes along with it of a weekend. It's a complete change of lifestyle and mindset required.

Roderick - I'll be honest, B2CV's comment was my immediate thought too.

Re. the amount of food - no-one else has any idea how much you should be eating at any given time, only you do; you're the one who knows how much you've eaten in a given timeframe and whether or not you're in caloric deficit for that day/week etc. Her observation of a single meal isn't even beginning to be enough to gauge your situation. Also my personal view on this is that even if there are some side effects from the mounjaro, they're likely far less of an issue than someone (like you and I) who's been significantly overweight most of their lives and running the risks of multiple major obesity-related health issues. I'll take the reduction of those risks over any potential side-effects from Mounjaro if it helps me with getting the weight down.

What I would comment on from your post is that you've gone up a dose each month; this is perhaps where you could make a change if you're feeling that the suppression etc is too much - perhaps drop back down to 7.5mg (and then possibly even 5mg) and see how things go. I started exactly a year ago and I'm still 'only' on 7.5mg and seeing good results. The general rule of thumb I go by is to use as little of any medication as possible to get the result I need. Not to mention dropping the dose will save you a few quid each month too.

I’m six weeks in and have lost nearly 9kg so far. This isn’t just from taking a jab, but because of doing (and paying!) for this I’m being far more disciplined than general. My diet and exercise is improving and I’m consciously making better decisions. Could I have achieved this without medication? Yes, but throughout my adult life I haven’t.

More importantly than just weight loss, I’ve had high blood pressure for the past 3-4 years and not done anything about it. On the 5th May it was 154/07. I started on MJ on the 22nd May. My blood pressure this morning is 125/78. My stress levels haven’t come down over this time, so it’s not that! laugh

I’m also convinced I was at risk of becoming pre diabetic with constant sugar intake throughout the day. This has become much more controlled. It definitely still a work in progress, but snacks are virtually out the window.

Your friend might do well to concern herself more with those stuck at a weight that puts them at risk of heart disease/ diabetes than those taking positive steps towards a longer life!

I'd also suggest that positive health benefits of the weight loss is at minimum balanced against other side effects and potentially massively positive. I bet if you asked the NHS at a strategic level whether they'd like the nations BMI to drastically reduce the healthcare demands on weight related medical needs, and that those saving can be spent elsewhere in comparison to the cost of managing any side effects of the jabs, they would respond very positively or they wouldn't be prescribing it in the first place.

I asked AI, if 50% of the population above the NHS threshold of BMI of 35% took the jabs and 10% of the population between 25% & 35% BMI self medicated so that this entire population overtime had an average BMI of 25%, what would be the result on the National average BMI = -4.02%. I'm sure we have all heard individual horror stories and those in the NHS will have heard more than their fair share. But if NICE and NHS didn't believe that the risk/benefit of this approach wasn't worth it then they wouldn't be prescribing it, they have to set the % prescription level somewhere that balances the cost of the medication and hope that this pays off against long term benefits, so you get an arbitrary 35%. If people below this level want to self medicate to gain the same benefits that is just basically private healthcare.

Me, being overweight not on the jabs but losing weight is a hard hard thing to do, and if someone needs the additional support in achieving that then looking at what the NHS are prepared to do in more extreme cases, does provide an assured process to follow for those that have to 100% fund it themselves.

Appreciate your thoughts ladies and gents. It was interesting to hear things from my friend's perspective, given her experiences from a professional healthcare sphere. I also know the difference that Mounjaro has made to my weight loss journey so far - BMI down from 43.6 to 38, clothes fitting so much better. Just need to ensure I keep eating enough of the right foods or there's a risk of depleted nutrition and vitamins.

I thought you were relatively local as I'm sure you had offered yourself as a walking companion to kick my cardio arse into gear many moons ago, which was incredibly kind, and I always remember such things. I am planning on staying 'on' for next 6 weeks as it is summer holiday and then coming off. I'll buy a pen to keep in fridge in case the urges return too strongly but I suspect/hope I'll be okay as I have never expereinced the total shut down many have and am used to being hungry every day. I KNOW coming off will exacerbate this feeling but feel confident the mirror will enable me to stay strong as it were...

I'm going to hammer cardio and see where I end up after holidays and use that as a start point to maintain or build from

To balance it, I had cancer at 16 so ever since I've had regular check ups with the doctors. I wasn't sure how they would react when I arrived 7 stone lighter but they are over the moon, they did stress the drug needs to be used in the right way, but they reckon sticking to the lowest dose possible and changing eating habits it's great and genuinely life changing for so many.

Here's a weird one, thought I'd see if anybody else has noticed it.

Since I've been on Mounjaro and lost 4 stone, I've noticed that colds / flu don't knock me about nearly as much as they used to. For context I was 17.5 stone, 6ft 2 and 34 years old I'm now around 13 stone so I'm back to a healthy BMI. I've also been cycling around 75 - 100km a week so my cardiovascular system is far better than it was.
Colds used to knock me off my feet for a week or so whereas now I can go about my day with mild discomfort. Thanks health!

My wife and I have just started on the MJ. Both just into the ‘Obese’ range on our BMIs but I wouldn’t say we are hugely overweight. For example I’m 104kg at 180cm - aiming to get to 90kg with a stretch target of 85kg.

We have sedentary jobs, two young kids and over the last few years we’ve slipped into bad habits. Despite remaining fairly active we have let the diet go to pot, so I’m hoping this will give us some headroom to rewrite our eating habits.

I started the wegovy pills today, just the starter dose (1.5mg) and had some nausea this morning but nothing too serious. Reading online, they're saying I should notice effects almost immediately, but I can confirm I'm as hungry as ever lol. Had a normal size portion for dinner and never felt full, so I'm guessing it's not as immediate as the online guides say.

Please keep the thread updated as I know I'm keen to see how the pills work out as I'm sure are many others. That's the method I'm considering to achieve my final losses.

So against my better judgement, I have started on the 1.5mg wegovy pills today. Did got some very mild nausea as well, but my experience differs to yours in that it absolutely has made me less hungry so far today. Only eaten one small plate of food. There's a bag of donuts downstairs that have no appeal.

Now I don't know if the lack of hunger is from the side effect of nausea, because that is not a long term solution. Perhaps the heat isn't helping.

Let's see how it goes! I am a bit cynical of these sorts of things but if it works and I don't relapse when going off it then I'll become its biggest cheerleader.

I started this morning on the pill, same experience no change yet.
