I'm sure I saw an advert saying they do bmi of 25+ now. I think most now ask for a video and photo of scales etc. Not sure how they know you're reporting your height correctly which obviously affects the BMI calc...whistle

Re BMI generally, I am 6'1" and now 83.8kg (11kg down) which puts me at 24.5. That's at the top end of normal and I am skinny. If I'm in a teams meeting now, I am by far the skinniest person on camera (bro science metric wink )

If I were to be at the bottom of the 'normal' BMI range I would be 63.6kg. There is no way that weight for me could possibly be healthy.
that is because BMI is an utterly ste metric, my last PT had about 9% bodyfat and was classed as obese at 5'11" and 16 and a half stone. The man was almost pure muscle

my thoughts are that the media's interpretation and communication of science is misleading and counterproductive in 100% of cases. Have a read of some Ben Goldacre.

I read that it's a 0.006% death rate in total from the 1.6 million people in the UK who take the drug annually. A bit of a non story.

There are supposedly 260 deaths a year in the UK from Paracetamol.

exactly, and this is a very very common trope in science reporting in the media.

"this thing increases deaths by 100%!!!!!!"
"hundreds of people are dying from this thing!!!!!!"

those headlines sell.

what is the baseline? what is the population size? etc etc.

On 7.2mg Wegovy HD. Just had the worst night ever after 5 pints and a curry. My first curry for a year and more than I usually drink in one session.
Side effects started last week after six weeks.
Can t be more than five steps away from the toilet.

Have previously been on Mounjaro 12.5mg with zero side effects.
This is awful. Going back to Mounjaro!
Having consumed 5 pints and a curry I'd be questioning the effectivness of the 7.2mg Wegovy dose. I struggle to drink 1 pint on MJ.
Its a challenge!

Has anyone got experience of MJ, Wegovy and the Wegovy tablets?

MJ worked well for me. Wegovy shots made me feel like absolute crap the entire time I was on it, so I am rather nervous of doing the tablets.

I found the media coverage of the “suspected linked deaths” to be scaremongering and oddly co-ordinated/consistent among the news providers.

From what I can see, there hasn’t been a proven death due to use of GLP-1 yet, but some “linked deaths”.

Even if there were 100 deaths from the jab, by comparison 30,000 deaths each year a linked to obesity, 31,000 deaths linked to heart conditions caused by obesity and obesity now causes more deaths than tobacco. In turn obesity is estimated to cost the UK $126bn a year.

A recent study of 1.5 million people on a GLP-1 drug matched against 1.5 million similar people not on one, followed for a year, showed a 45% lower risk of death from any cause in the GLP-1 group.

But, that kind of news doesn’t sell papers.

I’d be happier if I had the same filter for most news sources.

Injection day today, which means terrible indigestion later. Otherwise I’m going in the right direction. Bloods good, only 0.5 kg down this week, I’ve been more active and the diet has been pretty much bang on, but I’m old enough to know that these things aren’t linear.

contact your dispensing pharmacy and your GP about the indigestion. I don't think it's common, as such, and should probably look into it more.

Thanks, I’ll get onto them on Monday. It does improve after a few days, but it’s so bad today that I haven’t gone out tonight and have missed my first evening/night of the All Ireland Fleadh in Belfast.

Yeah, I know, BMI is well into overweight but a fair way off obese. It s just pissing me off!
My wife has been doing crossfit for quiet a while now. She can do 20 pull ups, handstand press ups, run without stopping for longer than I can concentrate and still her BMI is in the overweight category because she's only 5ft2. There's not an ounce of fat on her. So I wouldn't worry about BMI.
Dismissing BMI because it doesn't take into account the small proportion of the population who have more muscle than fat for the rest of us is essentially lying to your self.

If you have a visible 6 pack than BMI probably isn't a good guide, however if you are carrying a mid aged male pregnancy belly than you know the real answer.

Body composition is a much better measure and scales that measure it really aren’t that expensive.

FTFY. Fat and water read the same so they can be off by quite a bit depending on hydration levels. Good to monitor a trend over time but less good at an accurate on the spot measurement

They’re also inaccurate and given anyone on this thread is trying to lose fat, BMI works fine.

I started taking Wegovy pills (1.5mg) on 11th July weighing 104.5kg

I'm now 98.3kg so thats a loss of 6.2kg (pretty much a stone) in a month. I've had 2 holidays in this time where I was definitely eating less than I would do normally but was drinking quite a bit. Although I've had no alcohol since being back for a week.

I'm just not hungry, and find myself eating because I feel I should, not because I'm hungry. Zero side effects so far, I've re-ordered the same dose.

Although I'm pleased with my progress I'm worried about 2 things, firstly, how easy it will be to maintain the same losses going forward, and if that is even something I should be attempting. And I'm concerned that I'll lose what little muscle I have, so I'm making a good effort to eat plenty of protein but definitely feel that I need to get back in the gym to keep on top of that.

16 months in on the 2.5mg MJ, coming up to 9 stone lost now. I think I've got one last dose and then I'm going to see how I get on without it.

Everyone is different but for me the 2.5mg has been just right, at the start it reduced my appetite just enough that I was fuller quicker but I still wanted to eat. Along the way I've tried work with it, changed my diet from takeaways and junk food to much healthier meals and just generally making better choices with what I eat and the MJ has helped me do that. I still enjoy my food, I still gave the occasional takeaway but it's all within my calories for which I use Nutracheck to track. Not because I'm strict with it, some days I'm a little over some a little under but it means I'm accountable and if I put weight on at the end of the week I can look back and see whats happened.

I'm hoping those changes and habits will continue, I still want to drop a little more weight but I'm hoping I can keep up the slow but steady loss. I weigh myself daily, the chart here shows my average weekly loss since I started.

We'll see how it goes, hopefully I can keep going in the right direction, I'll update going forwards.

That's a huge amount of weight - and something I guess you must have needed to do. I'm just curious about why you're coming off it?

I listened to an interesting radio prog a month ago and the experts were saying that people coming off these drugs tend to put the weight back on.
