Thought I'd poke my head in here, bit embarrassed to say my starting weight but 1 month in and I'm down 21 lbs.
Fast forward a few months and a fair amount of sweat....

Just passed the 10st loss milestone. It can be done chaps!
clap

It takes some effort to undo the original damage. I'm pretty sure just about anyone can do it, it is then just a case of desired timescales, doing the right things and the right degree of commitment.

Maxeh - congratulations!!! Is that a 10st loss over less than a year?

Amazing what you can do when you set your mind to something.

Wow, that is inspirational. Maxeh, would you mind outlining how you achieved that? I need to drop the same amount of weight you have.

Indeed, I started in September last year.

Exercise wise I've been going to the gym 6 times a week since then with a mixture of cardio and weight training.

Diet wise I'm Type 2 Diabetes (well was, funnily enough) so my diet revolved around that heavily. Taking in about 2000 calories at the start now I'm down to about 1500-1750, for me it was all about creating a realistic calorie deficit each day and knowing everything about the food I was taking in.

Time of course has also played a big factor in this in terms of how long its taken me as I understand most people can't revolve their life around their training but for me it was the only real chance for it to happen.

Just reading a few "health matters" threads in an attempt to find inspiration and some motivation, Maxeh you have given me both... unfortunately I'm writing this as I await a take-away delivery so I'm not quite there yet but hope to make this one my last.

Some very inspirational posts on here, I am the wrong side of 24 stone and need to get it sorted. I used to be a Gym monkey (18st & 6ft 4)until I met my wife, then 3 kids, desk bound job etc etc and before you know it the pounds pile on. My doc says need to lose it gradually, the diets I have tried have left me heavier after the initial weight loss. I tried getting back to the gym 5 nights a week but it just doesn't fit in with life at the moment. On the train home as I type this after another 14 hour day in the office. So planning to do more walking/cycling and have already stopped drinking beer & coke/diet coke over the past 2 weeks so that's a start.

Final straw today was my wedding ring is too painful to wear so that is my first goal!!

Cheers
Jon

That was a hard post to write! Having written it I hope it will haunt me in a good way !!

Your Doc isn't stupid smile

Yes, if you can eat nothing but paper and smash it in the gym several hours a day it will fall off. However, in the real world, a lot of people struggle for the time & often have some physical restrictions as they get a bit creakier - I know I do. So, I guess, you modify and accept it may happen a little slower than you'd like.
Diet will be more important & diet as in lifestyle change, rather than a few weeks of celery, a slug of weight off (decent amount of which is probably water) and then back to bad normal. Those diets are the equivalent of someone doing a decent hour in the gym, going for a few social pints afterwards and then bleating about a static or even expanding waistline/moobs.
If you accept a slightly slower pace, get the diet thing right & have sufficient commitment, it will happen, even without ditching alcohol (just beer).

wavey

IMO, it sounds like your issues are around consumption of convenient (but unhealthy) foods, some relaxing alcohol consumption after long days/weeks, maybe age and maybe still eating like a gym bunny?

Well, Sunday night I committed to getting my act together. Need to lose a few pounds for the awards dinner I thought, suits feeling a bit tight. Couple of weeks will be enough to drop a few pounds...

Monday morning, stood on the scales, 90.9kg/200lbs. Heaviest I've been in 5yrs and at a towering 5ft 8.5in, that's a BMI of 30.1

Whilst the BMI doesn't concern me tbh, its a horsest scale that will never represent someone of my build accruately, the headline weight is shocking.

Thinking about it I've slipped back to my old habbit of drinking multiple cans and bottles of IrnBru a day topped off with a couple of RedBulls minimum.

So, this week I have restricted myself to a single small can of RedBull, no IrnBru at all and I've also quit smoking (just to proper ensure I'm in grump town!)

Calorie intake restricted, using Livestrong app to track them and aiming for minimum 200 cals under their target calories (since they'll only let you gun for 2lbs a week loss on the crapberry app which is pony).

Aims:
- Lose 3kg before SMRC award dinner on Dec 1st
- Lose 6kg before Xmas
- Lose 9kg before end of January 2013
- Lose 14.5kg before April 2013 and start of new racing season

Week 1 done. Pretty poor show tbh, made the gym Mon-Wed, then ended up in Frankie and Benny's on Thursday night and a weekend with the girlfriend doing hee haw exercise other than being dragged around shops and a little skiing, and of course, eating restaurant food and boozing.

Still, managed to drop to 88.9kg and thats a steady weight rather than massively swinging day to day so fairly confident its a genuine loss.

2kg lost, another 1kg minimum to go before Saturday! (would rather it was more like another 2 off before Saturday, shall have to put the effort in this week)

Time to move your targets otherwise you'll get complacent and start piling it on again!

I'll be honest, I'm very surprised how quickly the first batch has come off but then I am the heaviest I've been in 5 years. I'm under no illusions how easy the rest will be.

85kg to 79kg I have done before. It was Jan 2011, I was unemployed and hit the gym for at least an hour a day. I don't have the time in my life for that anymore so it will be a lot tougher!

Joined the gym for the first time in my life yesterday,I'm hoping it proves useful. Currently standing at 99kg, would like to get it down to 80kg or a little less. Will see where I am in 3months time. I've not hit the weights yet, just the cardio machines but do plan to do them. Seems like the only one I really enjoy is the rowing machine, as it has you exhausted, sweating the most & pushing yourself hard feels fun.

Disappointing week, only lost a pound. Not entirely surprised, work kicked off so zero gym appearances and I had an awards dinner at the weekend so diet went thoroughly out the window!

Still, projected losses will see me hit -6k 4 days before xmas.

If you enjoy it, do it! Perhaps occasionally try other things.

I like to do a variety of exercises to keep things interesting - HIIT, kettlebell HIIT, cycling HIIT, weight lifting, calisthenics, martial arts, climbing.
