Random post! Can't join in the weight loss as I don't have a set of scales at uni, but just thought I'd randomly say "YAY!" to Mrs F for doing for RFL, and Miss Diane, it is never too late to join it! I did the RFL 2 years ago in Cambridge, joined in...late April I think and did it in late June. Walked most of the way, jogged the other bits, raised £200 over all. It really is amazing to stand there with all the other women that have either had cancer, seen someone suffer from it, or had a loved one die as a result of it, I nearly shed a few tears.

Look up the website, check what ones are near your postcode, and if you've got enough weeks to get a bit of training in then go for it!

The only thing that is stopping me doing it this year is not having a decent pair of trainers and not having the spare cash to buy a pair. When I did the last one I was in a pair of £10 trainers from a crapp shoe shop, and they just weren't comfy enough (which is essential when you're doing 5km/3 miles). Once I can afford to spend £50 on a decent pair of running shoes I'll be doing it again.

Join anyhow! And just go by inches lost. Or pounds lost when you can get to scales.

This sounds good. I will keep my eye on the forum/e-mail as I could do with loosing the uni pounds I gained 4 years ago.

I dont think we need too much data to be collected: weight, waist measurement, date.
I agree....exercise is a bit pointless....

Someone's idea of an hour at the gym...might consist of sitting on the exercise bikes yapping.

Of course am not gulity of that paperbag

On the tracking of our weight loss....I'll have a word at work and see if one of the boys can knock us up a nice Flex application that we can all use.

Basically be a website that would allow us to input our data on a daily/weekly basis and then graph it for us and maybe show a top 10 or top 20 each week.

So, did we decide what measurements we want to track?

I'll start off and suggest:

Date, Weight, waist size, number of exercise sessions taken

what else would you want to track?
Sounds good. smile

You can walk MrsF, you are doing this for someone else I presume not for yourself,
after the weekend we are having I am feeling inspirational to do it myself frown
You ok D?

Just mail me/prod on msn if there is anything you want to talk about.
I know I can walk it but I was really hoping to be able to run it and help me lose some weight whilsty training for it too frown I guess I'll stick to the cross trainer till I can sort myself out. Hope your weekend gets better Di smile

Mrs Fish, applogies if you have heard all of this before but take it steady and build up slowly. It's no good trying to go out and run a set distance and then spending days suffering. I would suggest sticking mainly to the cross trainer to help build up a base fitness, and when you go out walk for two minutes, run for one, walk for two, run for one etc. Then you can gradually build up the running time and decrease the walking time as your body adapts and becomes used to running.
Lots of warming up before, plenty of gentle stretching every day, proper running shoes, but most importantly listen to your body.

Indeed. The leg press is your friend. Squats are excellent to but you need to be careful if you have knee issues. Make sure you stretch and cool down too at the end of a session. Hip problems are also connected to tight IT bands. This can have knock-on effect on calf muscles - tightness and cramping. Regular stretching and deep tissue massage can keep this in check. A physio will provide a proper diagnosis though.
I was thinking more glute med or piriformiswink

I know all about those too. I had massive probs with periformis last year and my right glute med is currently causing be pain. I'll have to wait until the bruising from last week's massage goes before I have another session biggrin

Anyway Lisa, take it easy!

Not really wanting to disclose my weight and measurements but would prefer to just say how much lost weight and inches wise.

I'm going to join in as well!

I'm quite a stocky build and I seem to gain weight pretty quickly, but I did have a bit of a fitness drive before I went ski-ing at the end of January, and managed to drop a few kilos. Unfortunately, I kind of fell off the wagon afterwards - and seemingly landed in the biscuit aisle of my local supermarket hehe.

My problem is that I never seem to have much of time for regular exercise thanks to my work, which involves irregular but often long hours at my desk. However, I do have a gym close to home, which I try to get to when I can, usually for an hour or so in late evening. Snacking whilst working and late-night fridge raids are my particular problem.

I'm probably going to regret this, but sign me up! I'll post my weight loss and exercise taken. I've just been to my tailor and frankly the measurements are too embarrassing for public consumption!

Bloody stand in doctor [angry] horrible man. I can't wait for my doctor (woman) to get back from China, I appreciate her even more now. I went in all friendly like, asking him if he was standing in for my doctor etc, he never cracked a smile. I felt on edge as soon as I went in. He didn't ask me what was wrong, just waited silently until I spoke. Didn't really help at all, only advice he offered was that they could do an mri scan or ultrasound, but nhs wouldn't fund it, so would have to go private as it was only for peace of mind. Did a cursory check of movement on the couch, which didn't hurt at all, I told him I was just being cautious and that it was uncomfortable but not enough to take painkillers. I wanted some advice on my running, as to whether I could keep it up or not, he just said that it was likely a sprain, not to run the race this year and to lose some weight [hmm] that's why I wanted to run you moron [angry] Aaarrrrgghh! can't put in to words how stupid he made me feel. Anyway I am still going to train but take it more slowly and see what happens. He didn't even suggest any exercises to do that might help. F****ker, he has made me angry.

Sorry to hear that Mrs F, but he's the stupid one. He didn't answer any of your questions cos he didn't know how to. Most GPs, unless they have a sports injury interest or are runners, wouldn't. So he has a choice, either he can admit that he's not really sure or he can fob you offfrown Get yourself to the physioyes

He's right (well obviously). I've had a similar experience twice in the past- first time the GP told me I'd chipped a bone in my ankle and would take up to a couple of years to fix (physio fixed it within a fortnight). Second time was when I'd hurt my shoulder lifting my dad when he was really weak shortly before he died. I thought it would go off but it didn't and went to the GP about a month after - diagnosis was that it was a symptom of grief and they offered me antidepressants. The physio fixed it with one session and a heap of exercises. You couldn't make it up.

After a bit of digging... i found this:

http://www.onlinefitnesslog.com/Features.aspx

Seems sensible to use something thats already there instead of recreating the wheel..

Any thoughts?

Although I've already lost lots of weight, I still want to lose a bit more....a weekly weigh in would certainly give me the incentive I need to start again. So you can count me in also thumbup
And me, I've done well on my own, but now seem to have reached a plateau as I'm not losing anything else frown

Also want to give up the smokes and get back out running (although the lighter evenings will be condusive towards that wink)

Happy to post height, weight & measurements.
