Every day though! I guess a lot of folks can't commit to getting tot he gym every day - time family other training etc. And I know I don't have space for one in my place!
I’ve got an erg in my office. It rarely gets used, I do my rowing at the gym.
I’ve got one at home and it does get used if not by me, my daughter
Even the dog uses it smile

I lie actually. It’s the right height to stand on and change the light bulbs.

But I find rowing on my own in the office a soulless and uninspiring thing. I prefer to row in an environment where there are other people. Hot MILFs ideally.

I fall into both categories.

I finally got a Concept2 for Christmas, after wanting one for about 10 years. I'm aiming to do 1,000,000m in 2018, and get my 2,000m time down below 7:00. I've done 150,000m already and got the 2,000m time down to 7:06.5, so I'm on track.

I'm absolutely loving it, no stinking overcrowded gym and it's just so easy when it's in your front room. My 4 year old has to turn Paw Patrol up in the morning though. Easily the best £860 my wife has spent!

I use the ergs in the office gym (only a couple of other people ever use them seriously, one is an ex team GB rower), so not that busy. Also have two Model Cs at home plus a ski erg.

That is an excellent first 2k. Getting it down from there to sub 7 can be a painful process. But you're 6'7, which is a huge advantage on the erg. Us short arsed gits really have to stretch out to get a decent length drive. Good luck with the training.

Did my first 2k trial in ages last friday, 6:58.4. Had no idea on pacing, so training is back on with a vengeance. I'd like to be down to 6:50 by my next time trial, but there's the small matter of the 1k sprint challenge in March. The way I'm going I should be able to do a PB.

6:58 dead for me this week. First 2k in 6 months and on the back of a fairly fierce 2x12min piece the day before so reasonably happy with that.

5' 10
44yrs old
Lifetime pb 6:39.3 (twice!) but no chance of reaching that again.

I mainly do longer pieces. 40mins or 10km and am currently still just about able to dip under 38mins for the latter on a good day.

C2s are just brilliant all rounders imo.

Trying to get my fitness levels back up after injury and I tried a 2k last week.
Blew up after 1100m...

Now using the erg to do 14 min Tabata 3 times a week.
The 4 mins fast as fk do me in, but feels good a few hours later!

Can't believe I didn't find this thread before. I have just started to get in to rowing. We have a Water Rower at home and a Concept 2 at work. I struggle to do 2000m in one sitting.

Any tips on doing this in one go? Also I have not mastered pushing off with teh heel of my foot, I'm still using the ball of my foot?

Start slowly, ignore how long it takes you. Just keep going at a relaxed pace until you've done 2k. Over time you'll improve.

Pushing off with the ball of one's foot it common, and due to stiffness somewhere - ankles probably. Ideally you want a flat foot. Try squatting in front of a mirror, feet parallel, with both arms out in front. You probably can't squat till your thighs are parallel to the ground, without breaking at the waist. Wherever you're feeling the tightness is where the problem lies.

Ideally you should be able to be forward on the slide (beginning of the rowing stroke) with your shins vertical and feet flat on the plates.

And then find yourself falling off the back of the erg .... it is a good thing to do, but not that easy.

I find the combination of ski erg and erg to be an absolute killer, but I'm feeling damn good from it.

No reason why you can't get to that 6:39.3 pace again - just takes training. I'm planning on smashing my 2k - PB was set a few years back, already half a second away from it. Hoping to be more like 6:50 with a bit of sharpening up.

First part of that is going to be the Virtual Sprints in a couple of weeks - 1k. PB is 3:18.4, but I'm absolutely determined to be sub 3:15. Preferably 3:14. It is going to hurt.

There are a lot of videos on youtube - either from C2 or Dark Horse Rowing. If you're on facebook, look up "Concept2 Logbook" (closed group). Loads of advice on there, and if you're willing, post up a video of your technique and people will give plenty of advice - I'd say that 99.9% of people in the on-line rowing community are hugely positive.

(The 0.1% is down to 2 people that I've encountered over the last few years)

Rowing without foot straps is usually most beneficial to the people watching you.

I think I can still pull a vaguely acceptable pace strapless (2k would be sub 7:30, but it would be lower rate). Rating up strapless really is awkward - I'm fine up to about 22spm.

It isn't something I'd ever recommend to someone new to the erg.

There must be something in rowing feet out - my daughters coaches have them doing it quite regularly - I think to ensure the recovery isn’t rushed, and that they’re not using the feet to pull up on the recovery.
But I agree, probably not for the beginner.

I gave my children a rowing demonstration feet-out when I got my new C2. I forgot I was not strapped, so when I finished the demo, hooked up the handle and leaned back I fell on the floor, via the slide. Any credibility I'd built to that point vanished.
