I did a 7.26 once but a shoulder injury (the first one) meant that I had to do longer distance (5k or 10k), taking it easy.

Just getting into weight training again but haven't rowed for a while.

For the seriously quick rowers, what's your lowest pull (if that's the correct term)? I think I did a 1:10 but i'm a 5'8" dwarf hehe
Do you mean what's the quickest 500m split off of one stroke?
Yes
1.10 is incredible! My quickest is just under 1.30 but I honestly believe I couldn't physically do any more than that. It doesn't seem possible. 1.10 (esp if you are really 5'8"!) is impressive.

done a couple of marathon rows (42k).

bet not too many people can say that.

not fast times but it was faster than i could run a marathon.
i was part of a team that held the world record for a 24hr non-stop row....we only held it a month then some army blokes beat us frown

to be racing someone is is at deaths door with with 60 secs left (and been allowed to get a little ahead) and then to just start pulling 1.15 splits while yellin "welcome to row school" at them (with hindsight....i may have been a bit of a cocksmile )

oh....and your physical stats - if you can row fast, i'm a grand national jockey wink
Funny how you put "been a cock" in the past tense and then finished the post like that.
If you were digger i'd point out that it was joke based on how unsuitable i am for horse racing (being huge) in the same way he is unsuitable for rowing.....being short and with an iffy back. However, as your not him (and i assume not his mummy)...i'll just chuckle at your slow times on your ye olde water wheel contraption.
So's your face.

Had a go last night while waiting for a bench. A slow 2.00-2.10/500 for 900 mtrs and then attempted a low pull for 100 mtrs. Got down to 1.23/500 with my first decent pull and was about to speed up like a loony, then the bloody machine started to slide across the floor an awful lot so I totally lost my rhythm. I also think it's a bit knackered because on Level 10 it was very easy!

What have you guys got your power levers set to? It doesn't change the difficulty of each pull but it's interesting to see. Mine's on 3-4.

I used to have it on 8 for 5k or 10k sessions.

I think I read on the Concept 2 website that somewhere around 4/5 is similar to being on the water.

Mmmm, that's interesting, I always though they put them on 3 for the Concept2 open. I'm off to put it on 5 to see what happens, I've never tried that!

I always use 5 for 2,000 meters. Regually do around 9 mins for a cardio hit, not aiming for the quickest time.

i've always found anything under 10 felt odd....like peddaling too fast on a bike when you run out of gears. I once did 500m competition at a gym (i was very out of shape, not seen a gym in a year, 21 stone...fat...looked a mess) The guy told me not to use 10 and that "all the rowers here use 6"......anyway, i used 10 - he said i was daft till I went under 1.30 with no warm up (he didnt see me puke in the changing room after wink )

Well with the power set to 5 I just did 7.25. I haven't done this in ages, been doing running for the last year, using the C2 for warming up for gym mostly.

My quads hurt. A lot.

Stupid question time..

Just how good is rowing for you? Better than the treadmill?

What will it help me with? Stamina? Lose weight? Toning?

I use it the odd time when in the gym (maybe once out of every 5 visits)

Cheers

Can we just clarify, just in case nobody else has mentioned it;

the 1-10 scale is NOT a measure of resistance as such, think of it as a set of gears on a bike where some people push a larger gear (10) in order to go a set speed relying on greater torque and some people use a smaller gear and rely on high cadence to reach the set speed. You should set the slider at the level that best suits your strengths, if you are a big lad with crap lungs stick to 10, if you are a smaller lad use 5-7 with a higher cadence as you will produce less power on the stroke.

Totally agree, it shouldn't make it any harder/easier it's just that certain settings suite some people and not others.

(he says, trying to get out of doing it again)

10 is for showoffs and first time "heroes" lol. As has been suggested to me before if you wish to simulate rowing anything between a lightweight scull and The Ark then choose level that way.

6:38 - level 4 - (I'm a short arse under 6 foot and the wrong side of 30). - Not a bad time considering I only recently started doing it (and first time was about 8:20 something). - However I think the energy drink helped.

I'd wager you are 5'11"? Thats a very very good time. Actually being just the wrong side of 30 does give you the advantage of mental strength? . . .discuss. . .
