First Evora Review - Jeremy Clarkson says 'Amazing'

JC in Sunday Times is very positive http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/jeremy_cl... He scores it only 3/5 which reads a little bit odd given the tone of the review. Let's see what else gets said..

The four reviews so far sound very promising, especially regarding the handling and steering feel - (good 'knol' btw) - looks like all the journos had a great day with it.

Just picked up the new Top Gear Magazine...Had an article (not a true review)

The Driver wasn't impressed, hated the dashboard layout, hated the 2+2 layout, that it needed more time in development and said it wouldn't sell too well due to it being in the price range of the Cayman and the M3

but he liked the handling and grip

but the same reviewer said that the Elise was released 15 years ago (released 13 years ago) and then went on to state that all Lotus 2+2 layout cars were too heavy and not very nimble

I think the article writer was a bit of a daft tt

I'd like to see it do well...I see it as a new Esprit of sorts, about 280bhp, quite light, ample in luxury, plenty of grip and sold for about £50,000

TG are definitely in a minority of one. Every review has been outstanding, apart from the usual quibbles of "fit and finish not up to Porsche standard". Given it has trounced the 911, the Cayman S and is even preferred over the Nissan GT-R by the guys at Evo, the writer is probably feeling a bit of a muppet by now. Performance Car even reckons the pricing is spot on and it represents excellent value for money.

It does seem to read like the reviewer was having a bad day. From what he said though, it sounded like his ideal sports car was a hot saloon. Hmmm..

He also goes on to call the Excel 'godless'. I'd have gone for underrated and cheap, but hey, just call me a sinner.

I remember when the Excel was launched - good enough to meet and beat the Porsche 944 the mags said at the time. Nice to see Lotus being consistant with their 2+2s.....

When I heard about the 2+2 layout, it sounded great, I was a bit put off by the Mid engined choice for the Evora, I hope it does well, according to the TG article Lotus only plan to sell 200 a year in the UK :S

the 2+2 is great or terrible, depending on the persons size

back when I was 16, I loved the Excels rear seats, unfortunately, Im a bit taller now

If the £2k isn't an issue,I don't see why anyone would NOT tick the +2 box. The number of times I've been stuffed when I've only had the Esprit to hand - wanting to take my daughter and her mate to work for example and they have ended up on the bus.

Given the options it gives and the fact that Lotus have integrated the +2 so well, it seems a no brainer to me.

I can't imagine someone in the Lotus garage spending £50k+....and not adding the option that the car was designed for

What a great car! I've got to admit when I first saw it I wondered how Lotus had managed to come up with something so ugly, but out in the real world it looks stunning and from the sound of early reviews goes just as well. Well done guys!
