I want to sell my Spanish car to a colleague at work. I've been told that there is an agency that can do this but charges :

Traffic + agency fees = €159 + 4% €500 appraisal value of vehicle = €660 !!!

I cant believe Jose Spaniard pays this amount of money just to transfer ownership of a car. DVLA does this for free !!

Can anyone clarify the process please ? Thanks

Yes, that's about right although you don't need an agency. Just find a gestor that does car transfers. Simplified you pay a fee, plus a transfer tax based on a list of values. You need to make sure you are up to date on the local vehicle tax (they'll check) and they also check to make sure there are no outstanding fines, finance, etc on it before you can transfer to the new owner.

Oh and generally the buyer of the car pays all these taxes and search fees, not the seller

There's a new tax in now. For vehicles over 10 years old, and linked to engine size.
An acquaintance has just had a tax bill for 2,500€ to transfer an old Landover! He only paid 2000€ for the car.

Really?

I just bought (january) a 14 year old 328i, and only paid a few hundred euros in tax.

Should I be expecting a letter soon frown

It´s now June wink Looks like you just beat it smile

Of course, it could be just another scam by the Balearic Gubberment to mug us some more. I can´t confirm it applies to the mainland also.
