Bit of a coup getting Coutinho?
I must admit I wasn't certain about Gerard's appointment (decent enough start though) but this is certainly one of the huge benefits to having someone like him in charge. Very exciting signing.
He's beginning to look the bargain of the season for you guys. smile

Coutinho and Ramsey must be the greatest partnership in PL history so far!

Yeah, they are on fire, great to watch.

Hopefully SG will get the defence sorted. I’m not going to join the Mings pile-on as I felt he was unfortunate with the drop of the ball for the Leeds equaliser, can’t overlook him making a goal line clearance. I thought Konsa had the worst game of the two.

As an outside observer, all I can say is - Digne, why? What does Gerrard see that I can't ?

Finally a substantial win this season. Gerrard’s change of system from the Brighton game is vindicated, running again with the 4-3-1-2.

From the stands it looked like Coutinho had the game on strings at times and should’ve scored another with the missed one on one just before half time. Watkins still looks a little off his A game to be honest, but he’s scored 2 in 2 despite that which is great.

Ramsey had a more quiet game this time out I felt, dodn’t see his usual link up play further up the pitch to often and not many breaks from the midfield coming through him. Other than that it was top performance all round. 4-0 should’ve in all honesty been 6.

Do you expect people not to celebrate a 4-0 win? This was never a massively active thread anyway.

Go cry elsewhere.

Only our 2nd loss in 13. Bad day at the office, move on, no biggy.

Well that just makes Villa's performance even better, to thrash an in-form team so convincingly, all great runs come to an end, yours just did.

Once again, the Villa owners are quick off the blocks to confirm their key transfer targets, whereas certain other Premier League clubs are known to dither. These three players are already confirmed and it’s not even June yet, so plenty of time to blend them into the team during pre-season.

Philippe Coutinho for £17m from Barcelona
Boubacar Kamara for free from Marseille
Diego Carlos from Sevilla for £26m

There should be a few players on the way out to bring some money in, such as Matt Targett, Tyrone Mings, Douglas Luiz and some of the fringe guys.

I'm seeing some eye opening wages quoted for Koumara on the old ttter, could be made up but silly money if true.

In other news, 40yrs last night since our greatest hour, the 1982 European Cup final. I stayed up late and watched it on DVD, what a fabulous team - beating what was effectively a strong part of the German national team, who had up to that point played in 7 domestic and 4 European cup finals and won them all.

Brian Moore, in commentary: "Let's see if Aston Villa can do something about that tonight"

Really loving our business so far. Can't remember a time when we were wrapping up top deals so early (or any deals so early!)

Well all the pre season hope quickly evaporated.

Buendia needs to be playing, Konsa should not be starting over Mings/Chambers and McGinn and Ramsey as the CM pairing doesn't work. Sanson doesn't even make the nine man bench - baffling.

Disappointing to lose to West Ham who haven't scored a goal all season until they met us!

Reading the comments on social media there are already a lot of fans calling for Gerrard to go.

There's also a lot of disquiet about Austin 'Nanny' McPhee - what does a set piece coach bring to a team that never scores from set pieces? Our only goal from one thus far has been an accidental corner by Douglas Luiz

Scott Parker's sacking at Bournemouth this morning won't have done SG any favours, I feel he's only still in the job thanks to nepotism via Purslow.

I can't see us getting anything from Arsenal or Man City so the Leicester and Southampton games after those are must-wins (if he survives that long).

Think he needs 4 points from those 4 games.

Love Gerrard as a player, but he seems to be really struggling to make his mark.

I just can't see us winning a game again frankly. The players look like they have never met, Coutinho is a shadow of his former self, Mings seems to be being frozen out, and making McGinn captain was a bonkers decision.
Our creative players (Buendia, Bailey) seem to be getting very limited game time.

Things do not seem to be getting better - there is no cohesion to the play, no game plan and seemingly no idea how to perform in-game management. West Ham knew exactly how to deal with us.

His record is very comparable to Smith's before he was sacked but he has a much better squad.

SG's days are numbered. The sooner he goes the better - but we do need a proven experienced top manager this time.

Also something bizarre going on with all the sackings at the club yesterday.

ste. No improvement at all on last season. Let’s see how we do now against really good teams after spankings by teams we “should” on paper be beating.

Using a mates season ticket I went to Sunday's game.

Villa by far the better team in the first half and should have got something for their efforts, Kit Stealers scored a lucky goal very much against the run of play but Villa couldn't even trouble their keeper in the second, despite a flurry in the last ten minutes, too little too late. 0-0 would have been a fair result if not for the fluke goal.

Been offered a ticket for the 5-30 kick off against Man City for Saturday, not going to bother going, A, as the kick off time ruins a Saturday evening and, B, the potential humiliation of being on the end of a tonking is too much to endure.

Do I want Gerard out, yes and he can take his scouse loving mate Purslow with him, as said above why we can't just get an established, quality manager in is beyond me, if the owners are happy to spend big on players why not on the coach.
