Strange old game last night. Very muted atmosphere considering it was a Champions League match under the lights against one of Europe’s big clubs. Our singing never got going: almost as if we had immediately gone a goal down. The 40,000 Villa fans were comprehensively out sung throughout by the excellent 3,000 Juventus fans. We need to up the enthusiasm for all home matches, or else the season might just peter out. Still 10 points from 5 matches is still good.
As for the last minute “winner”, I was so desperate to see it given, not just for the extra 2 points, but also to p!ss off all the Villa fans who left early. They moan about sky high CL ticket prices, then turn up after kick-off, go for a drink after 35 minutes, come back to their seats at 55 minutes and then sod off home after 80!

I can never understand this either, especially with cost of a match ticket, there's plenty of time to have a pint before or after the game without missing so much of the play and it disrupts the people who have to move to let them out of their seat, ridiculous. Still not firing on all cylinders. Same goes for the fans. Interesting to see what the atmosphere will be like against Man City in the next home game. That Friday night match against them 12 months ago was brilliant. I doubt a 12.30 kick off will do the atmosphere any favours. We’ll see.

For a team at the sharp end of the table we are woefully lacking goals. Thoughts on Duran starting in place of Watkins?
Not sure. Duran does not have the hold up play that Watkins does. Watkins is in a bad run of form at the moment (has always been a confidence player). Duran is good at coming on and being a handful against a tiring defence. That said, he is young and under Emery's tutelage I think he can develop his all round game, and to do that he needs game time. Duran loves to play exactly how he scored on Saturday, a long ball over the top to him, he was able to muscle the defender off the ball easily and shoot from range, he never seems to score a tap in!
Unfortunately I think Citeh are a bit like a dog that has been kicked at the moment. They are struggling to win, in their worst run of form for years, yet we have to play them. I think Pep will have stopped the rot by then and we might get battered.
More worrying before that is how we do away at Forest next Saturday off the back of the Leipzig trip. Forest have managed to nip into 5th spot off a mixed bag of three wins and three losses in their last six. They play open, entertaining football and Chris Wood is banging them in for fun despite being 33! Should bode well for a great game. Forest were my Nemesis team back at Cloughie's great days, they've had a lot of challenges since, but I think it's great for Midlands football that they are back in an mixing it with the big boys.

Duran at it again last night
Should have been two. Very tight offside call for the second. Good game last night. Just need one more win from either Celtic or Monaco and we should qualify in the top 8. Possibly a draw at both would be enough.
Who would have thought it at the start of the season!!
I know we have been in a bit of a slump lately but hopefully the last three results have us back on form.
Exactly! Leipzig were poor. Not sure what happened to Emi - first goal was just a complete cockup - he absolutely switched off and second goal was not much better. We should not have conceded either of those. We do still have a lot of work to do on our defence, but things are looking much better now. Very strong position in the champions league and still well in the hunt for top 4 in the prem.
Requisite thunderb*astard from Duran as expected!

Inahve a lot of time for Forest. To be honest would rather see them in the prem than clubs like Chelsea and City. I think that it will be a good high-scoring game against them that could go either way. Looking forward to it
Maybe not as high scoring as the 5-5 when we were both in the Championship! Great performance yesterday. Atmosphere was better than expected too, despite the 12.30h kick off. Result flattered City, who were abject. Unlike the same fixture last year when we also outplayed them, that turned out to be a blip in their form and we were on a roll. This time we have come through a sticky patch and are looking good again. City on the other hand are in an enduring slump and looked a really poor side again yesterday. Any Premier League or Champions League club would fancy their chances against them nowadays. It’s been a long time since you could say that.
Indeed. They were poor, but I think a lot of that was because we were outplaying them, both without the ball in the first half (no way through) and with the ball in the second.
They are still a dangerous team (as the injury time goal showed), but as people have said, they have lost that air of invincibility - which is good for football as a whole.
Hopefully they get punished for the 115 breaches......

Has anyone seen Haaland since Saturday lunchtime? Last time I looked he was in Pau Torres' pocket!
It was a joy to watch, Tielemans' ball through the middle of the Man City midfield for the opener was utterly sublime.
Only bad point is that it ruined my Acca! City are having a bit of a blip but it's hardly a crisis, I thoroughly expect Pep to turn it round and in all honesty thought that would start against us.
