Chuffed for Ollie getting a hat-trick, was gutted we sold him, but we couldn't turn that amount of money down or stand in his way of a shot at making a name for himself in the PL.
What a way to open your PL scoring account! I'm supremely impressed with him, he plays with an understated confidence that has been lacking in our attack for years. Am still rather speechless 12 hours later ! aeropilot said:

Watkins was an excellent player in the Championship and I think he'll prove a really good signing for Villa. At one stage there was talk of us (Leeds) making a bid and I'd have been happy to see him at Elland Road; however, he obviously knows Dean Smith from his Brentford days so once Villa were interested I think there was only one place he was going. Some interesting results over the weekend, looking like this season could be more open and competitive than some we've seen in the recent past (which can only be a good thing IMO). Just a shame there have been no fans in the grounds to witness some of the games we've had!
Ollie has looked brilliant for us so far. He made a brilliant run against Sheffield United (ended in the red card), did great work against Fulham, and last night speaks for itself. He seems to read the game and get into great positions, but he’s quick, strong and good with the ball at his feet. He’s had a very good start to his Villa career even before his perfect first half hat trick, against the reigning champions last night.

Bielsa seems one of a kind, this article makes some quite entertaining reading: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/11/m...
It's good that the established order is being shaken up, I would have loved to have been at Villa Park last night, my phone lit up with messages from mates around the country and indeed the world at full time last night, it was a massive result for us.
Best start to a season for Villa since 1962/3 in fact. There you go, I've cursed it for us!

Great to watch and I imagine there'll be a big change of tactics at Anfield henceforth but my eyes must be getting bad because several of the Villa lads looked well offside for the free kick that led to Watkins' headed goal. Mind you PL refs are obviously having similar problems, the one at the Arsenal game somehow didn't see Luiz's blatant shirt pull despite having a clear line of sight. Isn't VAR supposed to sort this type of thing out?

The headed goal was checked by VAR. looked deliberate to me. Mings goes early to confuse the defense into being unsure to stay or go (not difficult confusing them yesterday). Then he was very careful to not get further involved .... ‘Not involved’ according to the ref and VAR.
Attackers running in are surely 'involved' though in that they have to be covered by defenders, who are then not available to stop the scorer doing his thing. But what do I know. Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
