I missed this post.

As SB's appointment was announced my view was 'pleased we've got him' (off the back of four promotions from The Championship) and he's certainly showed a lot of early promise. Don't give a toss about his associations with Small Heath.

Unfortunately I think any promotion push this season could be hampered by the woeful lack of points under Di Matteo - 23 points dropped in the first 11 games under him. Even if we'd picked up half of them we'd be top of the play off spots now.

That said, it's such a tight division with only 5 points separating 7th from 17th with over a third of the season gone, any numbers of teams in that group could go on a run and get up there.
Anyone can get playoffs or relegation in championship as its so close, best time to be in form is right at the end of the season!

There's normally 3 or 4 decent sides that are consistent all season with the latter 2 struggling in the play offs, automatic promotion seems unlikely to me but playoffs I think we have a good chance, especially if they make a couple of decent signings in January.

Newcastle are walking it at the moment which is a shame as their fans seem so cocky!

RIP indeed - a great manager for us, and a thoroughly decent person to boot.

Genuinely saddened by that, I really enjoyed his punditry after he retired from management, it was always a case of "oh great, GT is doing this one"

Only Villa v Watford could have been more appropriate as the first fixture after today; damn it to hell we're not in the Premiership.

RIP Grahamfrown I attended many, if not most, of the home games in 1989/90. Good times; thank you.

Villa 33/1 to be relegated.

Seems very generous to me. On current form the odds should be rather shorter than that!

This is all depressingly familiar....

(No, I don't really think we're likely to go down. But we shouldn't be anywhere near the drop zone at all, especially given how much has been spent of late)

I went to the Brentford game, it was truly dire.

Long and short is we just cannot put the ball in the net, terrible goals/shots ratio.

Too reliant on Kodjia at the moment, if he gets injured we are truly screwed. Flabby is just taking up a squad number when we need a decent striker.

RIP Ugo Ehiogu frown

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-...

Somewhat close to home for me. I am the same age and had a heart attack three weeks ago - had a stent fitted 1pm the next day when I should have been on the train to Villa v Norwich.

I saw the news last night that he'd had a heart attack and used it to placate my very nervous wife - "look, if mega-fit ex-pros like him can have one it can happen to anyone"

To wake up to the news that he has passed away overnight has stunned me. He was a true gent and a great player for the Villa.

Ugh, John Terry.

This trasfer rumour has been doing the rounds for a few weeks. Seemingly close to becoming a done deal.

http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/822468/Ast...

I know there's no arguing with his achievements in the game, and I know there's plenty other dhead footballers out there, but John Terry is for me the lowest of the knuckle-draggers. Really finding it hard to get behind this - if he signs I've decided not to go to any games. Small pointless protest I know, but I can't spend 20 odd years loathing the bloke then suddenly cheer him, seeing as I was overjoyed when England put him out to international pasture.

Still, I guess divorce lawyers in the West Midlands will be rubbing their hands! rolleyes

Not sure what to think about it really.

Can't abide him personally after the Ferdinand and Bridge episodes, but he's an undeniable leader and he may just be able to inject some passion and backbone into a team that in recent years has been woefully lacking in it. I just hope he stays fit and turns into a Paul McGrath rather than Joleon Lescott kind of signing.....

I never got the fuss over the Wayne Bridge thing? Or why it cost him the England captaincy. Rumours (nothing more than that) of an affair with a team mates ex girlfriend??? Even if it's true, it's a matter for JT, Mrs JT and the girl. It's got fk all to do with Wayne Bridge. Bizarre episode.

I think Bridge was upset because he and Terry were very good mates and then Terry allegedly screwed his missus whilst she was still his missus whilst pretending to be mates. Bridge was the only one who came out with his dignity in tact by removing Terry and the girl from his life. Don't get why it cost him the captaincy, but I've never understood much about football politics

But that's just plain wrong. Bridge was long since separated from Veronica Peroncell, for over a year, when Terry apparently got involved with her. Bridge was in a relationship with someone else entirely. Bridge came out of it with no credit at all, just looked like a possessive tt, somehow thinking he could move on but his ex couldn't shag anyone else.

But JT refused to comment on the whole story, and Peroncell denied she'd ever slept with JT, So it's not certain they ever did the deed anyway. Either way, it's none of my business, none of Bridge's business, and none of the F.A's business.

You are better informed than me on this as I thought it was when she was still with Bridge.

No, definitely not. That's what made the whole episode so bizarre. Everyone sticking up for Bridge like he was the wronged one. It was nothing to do with him.
