I can't see him moving from Barca unless it's to USA.

If he wants to prove how good he is, I would welcome him at St Mary's as a back-up to Che Adams and Danny Ings. If he does well he may get a starting place over time. I think we would stretch to £30k a week + win bonus (not seen too many of those at St Marys in recent years)

Yep, and I think he's now more likely to go to the MLS than say PSG or City (or even staying at Barca)
Potentially agree with that especially as they can have 1 or 2 players which can be signed and avoid the salary cap. Issue is he was earning 100m+ in wages from Barca, would he demand similar from another club?

I too, as a Saints fan, would like to see this hehe Still reckon he wouldn't be out number 1 free kick taker, mind winkhehe

He'd not be my penalty taker of choice given he does miss a few

He already has more money than he can possibly spend. Will say a lot about him if he just chases the money again.

99.99% of players chase the money.

Only 0.01% has been paid £2.5m a week. I'd suggest he has already caught the money...

The greed is not about the amount, rather ensuring they always get more next time. He is not on his own.

With much lower TV revenues and no fans the last 18 months, i wonder if MLS teams are flush with cash…

Probably not.

I suspect, unless he's prepared to take a big drop on his wage demands (given his age and the current Covid situation impact on football) he may well find, that he might be hanging up his boots after he's finished playing in the Copa America next week....even if he can be signed on a free by another club....

If he truly loves the club he'll play for them with significantly reduced wages. It'll be interesting.

I think he has said he would return to Argentina to play for his first club again before he retires, so maybe that will happen, who knows? I just think of him as a European now …

I’d like to see him in the Prem for a bit, wouldn’t we all …

This is Groundhog Day with Messi in the Bill Murray role.

It happens every year.

Only if he's playing for one of the non Petro-dollar clubs to level the field up.

I think that's unlikely now given the comments he made a year or so ago, about the security worries he had for his family there, and he has since made no secret of his wish for his kids to be educated in the USA, so I think, he'll either take the big pay cut and stay with Barca - although you'd think if he was prepared to do that, he would have signed a contract by now, especially since Sergio Aguero has signed for Barca......which then just leaves the MLS option IMHO... (PSG maybe as an outside chance, if Mbappe leaves for Real?)

Some of the stories coming out about him and Barca are astonishing

To accommodate his new contract they asked players to take a cut, many refused, they now seem to be unilaterally deciding to terminate a couple of players contracts to free up the wages, talk of Umtiti and Pjanic being released

That is crazy-greedy from Messi. Can imagine he's made a few enemies there.

I'm not surprised tbh.

Barca are too stupid to see beyond him, and think he'll be playing for them forever, rather than start planning for their future without him now.

They deserve each other.
