I have met Clarke quite a few times. Our kids were at school together. Very nice family guy, and very smart too. I hope that he pulls through for his wife and lovely children.

I assumed he was in a car when he collided with a lorry but he was actually hit whilst he was walking on or by a dual carriageway.

The latest reports suggest his injuries are not life threatening and he'll recover so that's good.

I only found that out today as well.

Saw it on another forum where the guy also mentioned his previous mental health problems. Sounded like he was connecting the two in a way that suggested CC had suffered a relapse of them.

The local rag here in York, before it was announced it was Clarke, was suggesting a self harm event.

I met him and Gemma, just after the birth of their first child, lovely people and I hope he gets better and sorts out whatever problems he has.

Apparently (according to journo Matt Lawton), Clarke admits to the Sun tomorrow that he threw himself in front of that lorry.

Poor guy. It's a miracle that he survived.

And tbh, poor lorry driver - this could have potentially wrecked his life too.

Another former pro footballer with money (and gambling) problems. Sure they are adults at the end of the day but I wonder if more can be done (by individual clubs or the PFA) to stop young footballers pissing away their money whilst at their peak. Some kind of mandatory pension scheme perhaps?

Money? He was a jobbing player at best, touting himself around the lower leagues. He'll have earned a reasonable amount, but not PL style mega millions.

They will still be earning more than 99% of "normal" people, and we normals aren't going off ten a penny throwing ourselves in front of trucks or stringing ourselves up in the wardrobe. And we don't have liggers sucking us off everywhere we go, treating us like some sort of fking hero. I know that sounds harsh and unsympathetic, but having known a few suicides, including my grandfather, I have little time for them. Especially the super-selfish way of getting a truck driver to do it.

I do wonder if former footballers have more problems with money/booze/gambling than any other professions. Or is it just that when footballers do it, it's high profile?
