I suspect this will be his final make or break season with the team.
I hope so. We've really carried him at times in the last couple of seasons. A total luxury. Sometimes its felt like we're playing with 10 men. Wenger wouldn't dream of dropping him, so quite often we were always at a disadvantage.

His nonchalance annoys me. People say that's 'just the way he is' but I don't think it's helpful to team moral or spirit.

When he's good, he's very good, but we seldom see it. I thought he'd thrive again supplying balls to PEA, or Laca who make the sort of runs he's great at picking out. Hopefully he will this season.

Emery won't carry him, he's part of Wengers legacy, so I doubt he'll bat an eyelid at off loading him if he doesn't offer consistent value.

Ozil "has been the subject of criticism in Germany after posing for a photograph with Turkish president Recep Erdogan before the World Cup."

Oopsies, but then, Turkey didn't qualify!

I do wonder whether Ozil has seen the writing on the wall....Emery has been pretty clear about the work rate, commitment required and no special treatment....the latter I would take to mean those mid-season mini-breaks Ozil became fond of under Wenger are no more. Maybe he's realised he needs to up his game and the international match breaks will give him that opportunity.

He was definitely guaranteed a start when fit under Wenger and hopefully that's not the case now. Same with Ramsey....fantastic player but he left us open in some game when he'd spend a lot of time making runs off the forwards rather than winning tackles. When he had that great season.

Caveat to say regarding Ozil, watching him play is one of the best things about going to The Emirates....you just get a much better idea IMHo of his ability on the ball and how other teams worry about him in possession.

Agree with you on the last bit. On his form days and when you’re “live” and not peering through a 16:9, his ability, range and angles of passing are so obvious. He’s just not a common player. But I don’t think it’s a ‘run faster or you are out’ situation. Nope. Emery isn’t stupid. Of course all bosses say the same old stuff on day one to the whole group to make them respond positively and think they’re all equals now. But not all players are equal.

All the Erdogan stuff aside, the disgusting racial abuse he had at/after WC is not new. He’s been weathering it for years. He’s obviously blown a lid on perceived tension in DFB, but we all know abuse of Turkish & descended people in Germany didn’t start yesterday. The WC the final straw. I don’t think there are any top footballers who enjoy a few years of focussed abuse who then can lie to the cameras and say, “I block it out, I’m a performance machine”. He hasn’t looked actually ‘happy’ for a long time. 350k coming in to your account weekly doesn’t balance out a point of pride, especially if you are multimillionaire already.

So Emery knows no one is irreplaceable but people like Welbeck are in the ‘limited options’ box. He wants prime Özil and behind the scenes they’ll be latitude if commitment to whatever stays on both sides. So Özil cuts out the thing that’s been dragging him down the last few years, Emery works on the mental side and coaxes him to enjoy football again. Because if he does, he’s the ace in the pack and everyone wins. But it’s not a “perform now!” or out thing. It is for lesser types.

I think a system that doesn't seem to revolve around Ozil will probably benefit him.

I've watched so many games where we've been unable to break down the opposition, and our best plan always seemed to be to give it to Ozil, with the best will in the world, that was always going to end in failure most of the time.

With his ability to pick a player, make a through ball and create opportunities, PEA and Laca should give him an outlet. He was sublime in his pomp for Real, but then he had Ronaldo as an outlet.

Having one or two ball winners in the squad with a bit of bite will give him some freedom too. Ozil will spend the game moaning if he's shackled.

I'm glad it is over. He's been playing dirt for years. He last won a tackle before the 2014 World Cup. And now he hides himself and his c*** performance behind this photo. His 35 million follower boys, who of course do not exist in the real world, think he has played excellently if he plays a cross to a man

Shouldn't the problem lie with the German manager who kept picking him?

I think the real issue is that anyone with even a passing interest in watching the German National side over the last ten years would realise that Hoeness is (mostly) talking out of his backside!

Bearing in mind his performances for Arsenal have been average at best over the last couple of years but he still got picked for the German World Cup squad.

I see the FT are claiming Alisher Usmanov is looking to sell his 30% stake in Arsenal after accepting majority owner Stan Kroenke will never cede overall control to him.

I think this was an inevitability once Moshri sold his stake to him to buy into Everton, and wouldn't be surprised if Usmanov sold his Arsenal stake and bought into Everton with Moshri, although given Moshri now owns almost 60% stake in Everton, that may not be likely?

Will be interesting to see where Usmanov pops up again, football wise.................maybe given he's worth a billion or two more than Abramovich, he might be looking to buy Chelsea off him scratchchin

I wonder how much truth there is in this? Sky don't normally mess around with rumours and fake news:

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11670/11448...

Seems a strange time to go to be honest. He's been engineering a power shift for some time, seems a bit daft to go and not see the results.

For all the moaning about him, I think he did a great job when it came to the new regime. He was always between a rock and a hard place what with Wenger and Kronke being so thick as thieves.

Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick has issued the following statement:

“We are aware of the speculation surrounding our chief executive Ivan Gazidis. We know he receives many offers from organisations inside and outside the game as he’s a hugely respected figure. He has never accepted any of these opportunities and has never spoken about them publicly. He has always been fully committed to taking Arsenal forward and is currently working hard in Singapore with our new head coach Unai Emery as we prepare for the new season.”

Taken from the official statement from the clubs website today.

Didn't realise that Lucas Perez is with the squad in Asia until i heard it on the Arseblog Arsecast this morning. Delighted with that as I am convinced he has more to offer us given a chance. Maybe Emery thinks so too given that he will know him well from his time in Espagna.

I agree as we've not really got to see him on a consistent basis but still plenty if reports linking him with a move away.

For a player like Perez the change of manager/coach is a massive opportunity...he was out of the door but now he's got as much chance as anyone...well specifically Danny Welbeck. I'd take Perez personally. DW just isn't a good enough finisher to play in the final third for a Top 6 team.

The irony of your post is a bit lost on you. You go to great lengths to tell me I'm 'wrong again', but other than your assertion that the press is wrong, you're right, and it's all the Daily Mail's fault, you cannot provide me with any evidence to the contrary??

Based on this and 20 years experience of managing large construction projects, I'll continue to believe that Tottenham have spent £1Bn on their new stadium, and I'm sure you'll continue to argue to the contrary.
Direct from the horses mouth, Tottenham's Executive Director Donna-Maria Cullen:

https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/new-tott...

"We are so worn down by the sheer effort of delivering it," Cullen added of the stadium, which will cost "£350-400million" – with the overall Northumberland Park project, including a hotel and nearly 600 new homes at closer to £850m.

So not £1bn on the stadium.

Indeed the stadium is about the same cost as the Emirates - give or take.
