10 or 15 games in let’s see...Liverpool are such a good team. Looked to me like there was more structure than there was in some of the previous thrashings we’ve had from “Big Six” teams

Good game that, Pepe looked lively and you were much better than last season. We just had too much for you that's all.

Personally think you should go with a front three of Pepe, Aubameyang and Lacazette and really give teams something to worry about, but then I'm not a manager smile

Fancy you for 4th, maybe even 3rd.

What have you been smoking? we sat back and played a completely unsuitable formation, invited exactly what we got, we’re uncompetitive and off the pace in every part of the field barring the front two, we only have to look at every Liverpool players effort levels to see what we need to step up to.

Another one we've been lumbered with, David Luiz.
You knew what he was like, wasn't exactly an unknown quantity.
Exactly, we knew what Silvestre was like all them years ago too

I agree, that was crap.

Why didn't Lacazette start? Why didn't Torreira start? Why did we play so narrow? Why did we invite the pressure when surely Emery knows that we still aren't the best defensive unit?

I don't really care about Luiz giving away the penalty, he always has that in him, hopefully he'll start fewer games when we have Holding back in the side. A back three of Holding, Luiz and Sokratis wouldn't be awful, he did alright in that formation for Chelsea, and the first choice back four has to be Bellerin, Holding, Sokratis and Tierney, IF Holding can get his form from early last year back.

Midfield has to be sorted out too, could Torreira handle the defensive and holding midfielder duties himself I wonder? then we could play two forward mids, maybe Willock/Guendouzi and Ceballos. Christ, we could even get Ozil in there if he shows that he actually wants to play.

I still can't see what Emery is trying to do. Yeah, I know, I'm not as qualified as he is and I'm absolutely sure I couldn't do a better job. I just think that when Klopp came to Liverpool, his style was known and you could immediately see him trying to implement it, he just didn't have the personnel. Why don't we have that? Why is it every game I'm left wondering what we're even trying to do?

The whole playing out from the back thing is ridculous against a team like liverpool. They are the best in the business at pressing the ball. time and time again we dicked around with it, put ourselves under pressure and gave away possession in our own half.

There are teams in this league that we'll steam roller with some lovely moves from defence. Liverpool isn't one of them.

Another way to look at is that having got killed in central areas by Liverpool we conceeded width this time to make sure that couldn’t happen...conceded the wings to the fullbacks and back yourself to defend the crosses. That meant because Liverpool’s full back’s were so high that we had 2 on 2 vs Liverpool’s CB’s....if Pepe had taken that chance it would have looked like a decent plan. When we conceeded that first goal we should have changed though.

Pepe is the only player to have dribbled successfully past Van Dyke in a year apparently.

Liverpool and Man City are a class apart...we’ll learn a lot more next weekend and properly know if we’re any good when we have two full back’s with pace. Much as I’ve loved how sold Monreal has been he’s shot going forward....every time he gets shown the outside he just stops and passes the ball back inside him...has lost his pace. So he gets shown the outside all the time...

We’ve got a lot of potentially key players new to the team and 3 of our top 5 defenders injured.
