To me worst starting 11 I’ve seen in 20+ yrs, however teamwork and actual leadership Is starting to creep in.. And it works, Mustafi a proper general at the back.

Credit where credit is due, and our keeper wow!

We’ve got a lot of talent but it needs to be applied, it seems Arteta is doing just that.

Yes I saw that and thought the same! Hard to believe!

And is it me, or has Mustafi actually been playing quite well?! How did that happen?

Be fair when you are consistently third or fourth, it is a narrow number of fixtures. When you are 7 th then you get to play a lot more teams above you...

A great win away from home against a strong team. Was explaining to my son that you always have to back your team no matter what as he was saying he'd be happy to come away with a point. I went with a 1-2 win.

Still a long way to go before turning the corner yet.

Yup a long way to go and the one thing that needs sorting out above all else is the midfield. Sounds like Guendouzi is going and hopefully they just pay up Ozil’s contract and wave him goodbye if they can’t get rid in any other way, Ceballos is on loan which leaves absolutely fk all in terms of depth...ESR to come back from loan I suppose. Defence is dodgy but Saliba coming in and hopefully the game yesterday is an indication of wha the existing defenders can achieve regularly.

Not even taking the piss, would Luiz work in a DM position?

It's a shame our game against you is at the Emirates, I'd be a lot more confident!

Should be a good game, I think if you attack us it'll suit us a lot more.

I think this is where Arteta is improving, as if we played to attack against Wolves we would have lost in the same way Man City did, with Wolves counter attacking football.

But we kept it tight and didn't allow many balls over top and limited the space behind, then took our chances.

It's the same way Leicester like to play so if we can play a similar game against you guys we can hopefully minimise your threat and maybe come away with a result.

Thomas Partey rumours in the press...

I personally think the defence is looking promising if we have a fit Mari, Holding, Saliba, Chambers and I hope I don't jinx his recent good form, Mustafi. Also think Torriera is worth keeping.

Don’t think he’s mobile enough for a modern day DM. The other Central Defender that could possibly be-repurposed is Calum Chambers. When Saliba joins and Mavrapanos comes back from loan we have 8 CB’s ! Sokratis will I am guessing be shown the door and maybe Mavarpanos too. Chambers covers DM leaving 5 CB’s. You have to imagine Mari, Luiz, Saliba are the three first choice players. THe bizarre thing is Mustafi might get himself a new contract....his expires next summer and since he’s been told by Arteta not to go to ground he’s looked a much better player.

Lack of mental pressure.

Many of our defensive players simply implode at critical moments, Luiz, Mustafi, Xhaka, Pap because of poor decision making under pressure.

There is no bar set atm for this seasons finish, the virus has seen to that, empty stadiums, no fans.

Apart from injury, physically all our players are footballing athletes with a decent set of skill about them, the problem is what is going on inside their brain at critical junctions in the season (knock-out rounds) and 90 minutes away at places like West Ham where the home fans run you through the grinder.

These playing conditions have definitely impacted playing style, refereeing decisions etc. Hardly see anyone arguing with a Ref. Could well be that the likes of Mustafi do better but he definitely goes to ground less...I like to think that’s because we have a fantastic coach.

I’m guessing the players have been told on pain of death not to surround the ref under the current situation.

Looks like Gwen maybe off been training alone for sometime now due to his attitude.

https://mobile.twitter.com/theconv3rsation/status/...

Not sure what I think about it seems hit and miss.
Could turn out to be amazing and then other times he's just ok.

At least we will get a decent fee if he does go.

If he’s disruptive ship him out, you only have to look at the effect of everyone pulling together had last game. We’re beyond this sort of crap now, if he’s willing and stupid/stubborn enough to throw a chance of being a star for us it his loss.

Shame as he is clearly very talented. But obviously some issues there and possibly more trouble than he's worth. It does leave us very light in midfield once ceballos goes though. We all like torreira but how many times has he started under arteta? Lots of young talent, but clearly needs reinforcements. If Torreira stays and we sign sometime like Partey (there does appear to be something in that story) then we look relatively well stocked there (with Willock, Smith Rowe and possibly AMN as the youngsters providing depth).

Defense is interesting. Papa is clearly bottom of the pile and looks to be off. Luiz is staying. Mustafi looks to have played himself back into the team, credit where it's due. Mari is staying obviously, Chambers well be injured the whole window so is staying most likely. So does that make Holding most likely to go with Papa? I hope not as I really like him. Even then, that leaves Luiz, Mustafi, Mari, Saliba, Chambers, Dinos and Kola if we play a back 3. That's still a lot of defenders.

And of course, there's the Auba situation so who knows what the front line will look like.

given our injury and disciplinary record i think the days of having ‘three good centrebacks’ in a team are gone for
now.

we were short at the back at various points this season, let’s throw the kitchen sink at it next season and then discuss how many we need lol
